Kanami plays lead guitar throughout a lot of their songs. I think the reason is that Miku is already playing chords, holding that part down, leaving Kanami enough space to embellish the melody. They treat the vocals similarly, with Miku seemingly singing completely different parts than Saiki. It keeps all the parts separate and as a band, has them sounding "open" for lack of a better term. They never collide with each other, no matter how crazy it gets. No mean feat considering just how much is happening all at once.

Thanks to your comments, I made a new association of what the beginning and ending vocals are doing. Considering this is for a fighting robot anime, the beginning is a call to arms, and the ending is a victory cry.

I LOVE studio Band-Maid for the clarity, LIVE for the raw emotion. Akanai doesn't have solo's, it just that everyone else just drops out because she solos through the entire song. I locked on to Kanami at the Charlotte NC show and she just never lets up for a second, it's a wonder her hands don't fall off after a show.

They did DFW in 2022, Austin in 2023 and Houston in 2022-23. I'm hoping they add Corpus in their list so I don't have to drive as far. Traveling when you use a wheelchair sux at times. Kanami trem picking for the Win. I'm betting when they finally put out a live version of this it will have a little added spice to kick it up at least 2 more notches. They just posted the info about the new album earlier, and if you aren't signed up for their updates on their website, you really should. As they update all their Masters and Princesses about new songs, MV's, OLV's, Concerts/Okyuji's, Merch and any other things. And the list is free. And unlike 'some ' people, Band-Maid does NOT sell or disseminate their list. Nor do they spam you. I think last month I got 5 messages from their website the entire month. And those were all related to their touring, and the release of new material. Glad you are feeling much better. Please stay healthy.

Dallas and Houston are popular stops for Band Maid. I flew from Wisconsin to Dallas to see Miku's Birthday at the House of Blues.

They usually do come to Dallas, Austin and/or Houston. Last 2 they did 2 dates each in TX

They've been here twice already. I went both times to the House of Blues. The first time was in The Cambridge Room, just a couple few hundred people. It wasn't advertised, Fan Club only. Then in the Big Hall. I was going to set up in the seats after a few songs, just to get that view, but not a chance. Once they got going a was transfixed in front of the stage the whole time..

Akane slams through this whole song. Also the way Saiki says "two as one" gives me chills... Also, the closing bit of the song, your reaction and your "I LIKE THIS"...phenomenal Great reaction, thanks lady! ❤

Great vid! Definitely a flatter mix, designed to really spotlight Saiki. I feel like that is definitely a thing that is influenced because of the anime - always vocal forward. This song really gets into you, starts like 'oh that sounds interesting', and then suddenly you're listening to it like 20 times a day...

I expect this song to sound quite a bit different live. Probably not as punchy as this master, but MISA's bass will have more thump, Saiki will go harder, and Miku's backing vocals and Kanami's guitar will be more audible. They'll most likely hit Dallas on a future tour. If not, they're worth taking a trip out to see, especially if it's your first time.

I've literally just landed back in London after flying to Yokohama for the sole purpose of finally getting too see our glorious maids live Sunday past,and all the horrendous flights 15hrs and trains were made worthwhile, as they were fantastic,everything I had hoped for and more,and for a solo travelling 1st timer,the Maidiacs were sooooo welcoming, friendly and helpful,there was an after party with food and drinks laid on until the early hours with Bandmaid live videos playing on all the big screens,truly unforgettable, 😊keep up the good work❤

I really like this song and video. It's been playing in my head off and on since it dropped. Badass Banger for sure!~ NittPicc, the new album release was announced for 9-25. Epic Narratives featuring a collab song and video with The Warning. They met up in Japan before their show together and came up with a great song. It looks like both bands really appreciate each other and during their show in Japan, The Warning joined them on stage to play their new collab. This is gonna be fun! From the looks of things, a tour is more likely in 2025, but we'll all be anxiously awaiting that news!

They announced the release date of the new album, 9-25, at the Kanagawa show and put it out in social media at the same time when they were notifying those at the concert. As for going to a concert, just channel Saiki's last words from "Shambles"..."DO IT!". You will not regret it. PO!🕊🤘😆🤘

Thank you for the video. It seems that humans can only distinguish three things at a time. So I have to listen to it at least twice. Once you get used to it, you will be fascinated by the sound of each of the five members, and it will take more than two listens. I would like to hear their "shambles" soon and see your reaction to their amazing performance. Both "shambles" and "Protect You" are songs for anime, but they are charming in that they are firmly in the context of each work, sincere, and highly restrained. "shambles" is a song for a fighting anime, but KANAMI's riff is faster than a jab, and "Protect You" is a song for a robot anime, but AKANE's drop is more destructive than the space thunder of the special move.

Great song, as usual form The Maids, but the extra nice bit about this song for me is that it's the ED for this seasons Grendizer U anime, as the old UFO Robot Grendizer (as Grandizer on TV here in Canada in 1980 or so) was one of the anime that got me hooked as a kid. Hola NittPicc. The album is released on 09/25 under the title Epic Narratives. There will be all the songs heard in recent concerts, with Protect You of course, and 7 new ones, making 14 in total. The ultimate version will contain the Blu-Ray of the Day of Maid concert with an insane set list. Let's hope the producer will doesn't cut the MCs (no white rooms). new album 2024/09/25, and this song is the ending song for an anime to come called Grendizer, the old "x" will remember this anime was called in america "Goldorak" has been released in 1975 in Japan and later in the 70's for europe and America, it was very popular and has a lot of nostalgic fan.

That insane drum intro and outro Akane is playing I believe it's called blast beats. It supposed to be played in death metal songs. AFAIK, the only band using blast beats in non death metal song is DragonForce (power metal). And now Band-Maid (a mainly hard rock band) is using that too. That's insane.

Agree with you about the mix. I had to listen to this several times before I could pick out the individual lines, particularly Kanami's and Miku's. As you may know, this is an anime ED and the studio was probably going for full impact and not detail. I really love the song, though, so I can't wait for a live version either!

I have already ordered my copy of the new album, to come out in September. "Protect You" is straight-out anime music -- fast, intense, fun.

Great reaction as always, Nitt! The problems with the studio tracks (including this one) is that the producers always over compress everything. Yeah, you can hear everything, but it loses the separation that you get in the live performances. That's not to say that the studio tracks are bad, at all, just that it's a commercial choice that leads the hardcore fans to appreciate the live performances more.

I think you nailed it describing this as sweet AND hard core! As for the parts, much like The Who who had Keith on lead drums, John on lead bass, Pete on lead guitar, and Roger on lead vocals, Band Maid has the same type of ego tripping soloing but with NO EGO… its all BAND MAID with Akane on lead drums, Mincho on lead guitar, Misa on lead bass, Saiki on lead vocals, and Miku as the glue holding it all together po (not to be understated or underestimated!)
