Hey everyone! If you are new here, I love japanese rock/metal music and already know and love a lot of amazing bands (Babymetal being my absolute favourite), but I never listened to Band-Maid before starting this reaction channel.
So I have now listened to 'Conqueror', 'Just Bring It' and I just finished 'Brand New Maid'. Next one is (obviously) 'World Domination'.
It's crazy how much I have already listened to and grew to love these amazing ladies even though I wasn't even a fan of 'rock' music before and don't even know half of their catalogue yet xD.
Not sure if I am a rock fan now, but I am definately a Band-Maid fan! Their music is very diverse, interesting, beautiful, heavy, energetic and just fun :D
Really looking forward to this album after this intense start!
I've noticed with Band-Maid A LOT, that you have to listen to their songs multiple times to really grasp what is going on and the more I listen to them the more they grow on me (like with Babymetal ;).
Now we are continiuing this awesome journey by listening to their album 'World Domination' from start to finish!
Not sure if anyone even reads this stuff here, but I'll provide my personal 'BAND-MAID best of' -playlist here too (including how many times I have listened to these songs on my phone), so you can see how that changes over time and what my favourite songs are (*cough*mirage*cough*).
(Probably a bad idea since it will most likely just get bigger and bigger xD I might have put a limit on it at some point^^)
My BAND-MAID personal best of playlist (at this point in time, from what I know by them so far and in no particular order) please consider I had more time to listen to the albums I did first (1.Conqueror - 2.Just Bring It - 3.Brand New Maid)! :
-Mirage (83x...this seriously already became one of my favourite songs in general, not just B-M ;)
-Wonderland (47x)
-Bubble (29x)
-Blooming (37x)
-輪廻 (RINNE) (22x)
-カタルシス (Catharsis) (18x)
-Dilemma (23x)
-azure (22x)
-Moratorium (13x)
-YOLO (15x)
-influencer (haven't bought that one yet)
-OOPARTS (6x)
-So, What? (9x)
-Time (5x)
-you. (12x)
-Awkward (9x)
-decided by myself (7x)
-the non-fiction days (10x)
-LOOK AT ME (6x)
-ORDER (4x)
-FREEDOM (5x)
-Before Yesterday (8x)
-alone (5x)
-Sayonakidori (haven't bought yet)
-I can't live without you (6x)
Thank you all for being so nice and understandable! I wish you all a great day and hope you enjoy! :)

One thing you can never accuse The Maids of doing is playing safe. The song stretches Saiki's voice and then really the speed just smashes the track to bits. One of those songs that show The Maids can really rock with the best of them. As if there was any doubt.

One of Saiki's most demand and powerful songs to sing. ICLWY is a banger! Thx, Benedikt!

Saiki's showcase, at least before Wonderland was written a year later, and my favourite on the album. I just love the raw passion of it. I'm pretty sure the low vocals are Miku. Akane and Misa have only sung backing vocals at the acoustic show. Kanami regularly sings, but not that low. Miku often provides low harmonies as well as high ones, and has a very good range.

I agree , Miku's low register vocals appear on quite a number of their songs. Her ability to sing low is often overlooked.

I have this saved as a text file so I don't have to type it out as much but here is it edited down for those who may not know. Most Maidiacs already know this so feel free to ignore. :) Miku the Secondary Lead Vocalist is a MezzoSoprano, meaning she can sing lower and higher than Saiki the Primary Lead Vocalist, who is a Contralto/Alto. However Miku doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. I have two different analogies explaining it. The first is audiophile: Miku only has a pre-amp installed, while Saiki has has the pre-amp and amplifier installed. The second is the hose: Take a hose with a screw nozzle, open it up so it covers the largest area, it doesn't spray very far or hard, that is Miku's voice. Tighten up the nozzle and now it can go very far with much more power, but it doesn't cover as wide an area, that is Saiki's voice.

They performed this at one concert on the US tour, DC, right after the first MC. Love this song!

I had heard that Saiki had to sing at a higher key for this song and whoa, they are high!

Great reaction as usual, but I also read your comments, and have to say that you are a man after my own tastes. Mirage and Wonderland are still in my top five, even though my top five includes 20 other songs (it's Band-Maid math).

World Domination is a great album! It wasn't MISA or Akane on the backing vocals (they both can sing, but rarely do. They both did on the Christmas acoustic live). I think there is a layer of vocals on a backing track. You are going to love the next track "Play", especially the live version! In fact the band often change up the opening to "Play" when they do it live so there are a few different versions out there!

I see, thanks! So which version would you recommend/do you like the most? ;)

@@react-o-mat The live one on their official channel is my current favourite as the intro was written to include Miku duelling with MISA. Plus on this version the crowd is recorded too, and "Play" is a crowd participation song. FUN FACT - "Play" was originally written as an instrumental, but Saiki liked it that much she asked for lyrics to be written for it!

This album sort of christalises their journey so far- 2018, and concetrates more on the Hard Rock sound. Without spoiling it for you, the next album- Conqueror is a sort of bridge between this and the new style of Unseen World. Be patient.

I am not that familiar with the 'rock subgenres' tbh, so what would their 'not as heavy' work be categorized as? Just rock?

@@react-o-mat Their early stuff has a very Pop-Punk feel to me, they later went more Hard Rock. Now I think they are Punk-Prog! Mixed all the time with funk/Jazz/Metal/Groovy bits and Pigeon Screams😄

I actually started my Band-Maid journey with Conqueror, then did Just Bring It, then Brand New Maid (all on my channel). It's kind of random but this way I can kind of explore into both directions ;)

Their early albums contain so many songs of the type of rock I really love from the Maids. Don't get me wrong, I love their later stuff. But the early albums contain more of the Rock that I grew up with in the 70's & 80's. As it happens, I've had this CD on repeat in my car for about 4 days now. They follow me everywhere. I can finger tap all of Akane's drum patterns on the steering wheel. I get myself into a bit of trouble with the double kick drum on the brake & accelerator pedals though. Ha!Ha! Cheers.
