The Big Buddy with fan is $150 at Scheels Sporting Goods. The one without a fan is $130 now. Prices on those have gone up almost $50 over the last couple years.

My Fuel Keg tanks and refill tap arrived today. The first tank I filled, the o ring and plastic sleeve came out of the tank and stuck on the refill tap. Because of your videos, I had checked to make sure they were in place before I filled the tank. I removed them from the refill tap and put them back onto the tank, but I hope this is not a common issue. Other than that, the refill process was simple - easier than the Flame Kings, in my opinion.

yeah there seems to be not enough interference fit with some of those sleeves. I know that Mr Heater is aware of the issue.

On the fan a wood stove fan kicks butt. You need to get the metal grate to cook on in front of a big buddy. They work from heat, they are great no battery’s.

I personally use industrial grade d battery's for my heater. They work great. To answer a question I have seen a lot as of late, yes my buddy heaters are safe indoors. I use mine in a 9x7 tent. Never had an issue just make sure u have a bit of fresh air coming into the tent

This is just the review I needed. Not paying 50 extra bucks for a fan that fucks. The electric ignition is a horrible idea too. Batteries dies so quick in the cold, especially AAA batteries

I have a stove top heat operated fan. No batteries, when heater is on, it moves air. It runs for about 2 minutes when you kill the heater. I have a small buddy. It overheats my RV on days over 32 degrees. It uses heat thats wasted by rising to the ceiling. Works awesome. I prefer the older piezo ignition. I use mine in the RV well out of "kick the blanket off or pillow" My buddy will shut off at the slightest impact. I also use a C O sensor for safety.

I have the OG one with the fan and the battery dies on it more than me even having the chance to use it. Now I run a heat powered fan that sits on it which it barely blows. I run an additional fan attach to the popup's ceiling to move air.

Thank you for these videos. I like the fans on my older Big Buddy heaters. I use the power packs with them. I would be disappointed if I bought a new one and it didn't have a fan. I do have a question about the Flame King tanks. Do they have a pressure relief valve? I have not seen one in the videos I have watched.

I know a lot of people aren't very savvy with electronic things but it would not be hard at all to solder a plug onto the contacts for the fan and then go get a plug in power supply and plug it into the wall. The back of the unit tells you how much power it consumes and you can totally go online and find a power supply with whatever voltage rating you need. You can buy connectors in mass. Its easy folks. Dont let it overwhelm you and do a little research. You may find that you can do a lot more than you think you can
@3RiversFishingAdventures

the problem is you do all that and the fan still is terrible. My opinion is it's not worth the effort. Just get a portable clamp on fan, like I highlighted in the video.

@@3RiversFishingAdventures I somewhat agree. It’s helpful a bit in our cabana, and for some reason it helps keep the heater lit when used above its rated altitude. If I remember correctly, it’s not designed for above 6500 feet and we camp a lot at 9000 feet, so the heater tuns itself off a lot, but with fan running, not as much.

I just got a green one from tractorsupply has a fan and a place to use a very small 6v plug. After I got it I found a regular Buddy on sale at Wal-Mart for $78 but hold on that waa not enough they lowered it down to $37 and not a return sold now I have 2 heaters big buddy is going to be my outside and buddy going to use in my camper and if I really need the big buddy indoors I have it. Next is a Camplux or Joolca water heater for showers liking the Camplux for its price point with kit including water pump. Wonder if rechargeable batteries will work out better as I have a solar power station or my 12v solar setup might work also.

I got a cheap 12v to 5v USB converter off ebay, I use that from my 12v ice fishing camera to power the big buddy fan. I took a 6ft long USB cable, cut the end off, hooked some small alligator leads to it, and clamped those onto the battery leads and its GTG. The entire cable just stays in the battery compartment when not in use. 5v is plenty to turn the buddy fan. Nice thing about the converter is you can also charge a phone or whatnot.

A 4.5 Volt or 3 D battery setup and/or 4.2 Volt Rechargeable accessory pack would definitely bump up the fan speed considerably. YET, I know of a hack for a fan that will make it so that you think that you are sitting in front of a furnace! I know of a 12 volt PC fan that is rated for around 100 CFM rating that will make heat travel at least half way around the room or at least around 8-10 feet for sure!! YET, this same fan is a 4 inch or 120 mm size and at 100 CFM, this fan will definitely make you feel the heat and this fan can be internally mounted along with the use of a thermostatic switch that can be used to automatically come on when sensing that there is heat present! Also, an external 12 volt glass mat acid 10 amp/hr battery can be purchased for around $27.00 bucks that is rechargeable of course with the use of a 12 volt cigar plug that can periodically be recharged through your car! So, for around $52 bucks in total cost and so good solid installation work, you can have an air mover on steroids that has around 30-35 decibels loud. This may even be more a most reasonable approach and that battery can supply sufficient power for a good 6-8 hours without issue. An external rechargeable battery that can provide sufficient power for a little wimpy fan alone can cost you $45 bucks but with my option, the fan will surpass any of those expectations with ultimate ease yet you will end up with a fan that can kick some serious @$$, I mean serious heat and heat up an area in no time at all; between 15-25 minutes and perhaps roast you out in especially when you are cranking upwards of 9 to 18,000 btu's heat PLUS this major fan update of mine!!!

Just curious, obviously this is a silly question. I have watched all of your videos since you started making comparisons of the 1 pound propane bottles using LP. From the Coleman refills to the Flame King refillable , to the Fuel Keg. Here's my question I don't have a working heater in my car right now.( 2011 Subaru Forester.) I can't drive at night without a Defroster. Is there a catalytic propane heater? That runs on propane? I have already dropped $650.+ trying to get the factory installed heater working.. are there any safe propane options? Perhaps with automatic Shut-off in the event that the heater tips over? I was thinking maybe putting one of these Buddy Heaters could fill the bill for now. Secured to the wall of course. I can't afford to keep dropping money into this Japanese made car. and yes I have already tried a Fan Defroster from china.. it cost me $30 USD to learn that the dash vibrations cause it to fail before getting through one winter.. Spending another $250.00 USD isn't an option for right now. Good channel sir. Thank you.

In a pinch I think it would work, but the problem is that it's an unvented heater and produces a LOT of moisture which will end up inside your vehicle and create frost inside and just not a good thing in general. You would have to drive with the windows cracked for sure. Not saying it wouldn't work, but I would only do it in an emergency.

I'm trying to locate where to change that AAA battery for the igniter. i just got the newer version Big Buddy, but the instructions I got are for the older version, with a cap , unscrewed underneath it. I'm guessing the battery is built inside the ignition switch itself , but I don't want to pull off the cap and break it. Hopefully somebody knows how to change out that AAA battery.
@3RiversFishingAdventures

There should be a round button cap on the bottom that you just screw off and there's battery inside of that. If you don't have that cap on the bottom then you probably don't have electronic ignition.

Good heater if well ventilated in un-enclosed room. Best with Aux fuel hose & external tank as one pound cylinders don't last long. Also small fan set on stool or counter top behind unit will distribute heat well. Internal fan sucks. Multable heat settings. Great for construction projects, shops, garages & large rooms.

I'm not a fan of the fan on my old Big Buddy. The D batteries don't last that long. It doesn't put out that much. I just bought a lithium battery powered fan to hang from the top of my ice fishing hub. I might get one of those fans that runs off of heat alone.
