The New Balance Propel v5 is a newly updated everyday shoe running designed for comfort and versatility. Priced at $120, it undercuts the rest of the mainstream daily trainer market while offering a plastic plate and a variant of the FuelCell foam used in other New Balance shoes like the Rebel and SC Trainer. In this video, I give an overview of the Propel v5, take it out for a 10 mile run and let you know my thoughts on how it stacks up.

😂😂😂 Loving the sense of humour! I saw someone recently say "running isn't that serious", and that hit home. Unless you are running dedicated workouts, (usually in lieu of a race) don't be afraid to let loose and just enjoy the joy of running itself - no strings attached. It's a blessing! I liked the Propel V4 it provided a nice asorbing daily squishy foam with a little bit of sping. The plate in the V4 provide a nice roll and stability to the fuelcell foam for the run. The V4 been a great daily running shoe for me. Been thinking the V5 will pobably soften up. Thanks for the review, the color way is fire 🔥 BTW.

Propel V4 was a fantastic work horse of a trainer. Paced a marathon in them in October and still wearing them for trail runs. I reckon I have around 600 miles in them, and still feeling good.

I quite like the unnecessary length. Some good nature sounds and ambient noise during the jogging time. The time spent considering and comparing is good too.

Nice long review..the bias is what a shoe tester should do, not an ad for the brands..trying not to disappoint anyone is what's wrong with most you-tubers..just telling it like it is what I use to make an informed decision about my shoes..keep up the great work and it is appreciated by those of us that are serious about our running..sounds like a good shoe to add to my rotation of daily shoes like fuel cell shoes..it's even shaped like the rebels and the elite V3..as a bonus the last version is pretty cheap right now..🎉🎉😊😊

The "Very Credible" shoe reviewer. I take my hat off to you man..... more like the triple P (PPP) reviewer: Positive, Prolific, and always Pontificating. I actually really love your channel and do "put respect" on your opinions as evidenced by the shoes I just bought (boston 12, 1080v13) AND the shoes I didn't purchase (triumph 22, 880) AND my recent dedication to the run (let's go) AND my thinner waistline (bang). Sorry about the contrarian comment. It seemed as though the last 2 minutes of the review you went on about how the hype shaped your opinion. I also got vibes of the contrarian with the Superblast as though you were ducking a more in-depth dive into the research of a shoe many people get along with. Glad to see companies improve their “budget” shoes, I had v2 and 3s, very meh and no pop. V4 much improved(forefoot still felt firm cuz of the plate) so v5 seems even better. Glad to see you review some shoes that most overlook and don’t need to get the most expensive model.

A good comparison would be with Propel v4, since it was so well accepted. And as you said, these days such a price for a good running shoe, without the need to buy a 200€ one because marketing tells you to do so, is gold.

This video was comedy with all the smiling and laughing😂 loved the v4 tho got 800+ easily and still run in it it was my beginner shoe and is super versatile for me since I’m a around 5’8 140 this upper looks better the v4 super stable versatile soft and easy to run in nice review can’t wait for you to get more miles in the v5

Seems like a solid continuation to v4, which a lot of reviews said was a decent shoe but great bang for the buck. Also, a solid, filled out heel for the heel strikers.

Thank you! And yes stability is decent here even though the foam is soft. From new balance I would pick the 860v14 over this for walking though. It's a little more stable and not as squishy

I always considered Propel as a light stability shoe. The foam has been firmer vs other fuel cell foams. As you are reviewing some lower cost shoes, would you review ASICS Noosa Tri-16? As a mid-stack shoe with updated foam, I think it might be good one to try.

Check the plate location. Runrepeat cut the propel v4 in half and the plate ended at the mid foot. I think the plate is there to stiffen up the heel. Don’t think the plate goes under the forefoot for any kind of propulsion

Oh interesting. In this one I think it's full length or very close to it - they have some foam cutouts in the forefoot and I can see/feel the plate through there. So at the very least it goes up to about an inch or two from the front

100%. So much softer underfoot, better upper, roomier toebox. You may want to go up half a size but overall it's a much more comfortable shoe

I would suggest the new balance 860v14 over this! It has a little more cushion and is one of my favorite shoes of the year. Smooth, comfortable ride with a nice bounce and great for running any pace or distance

The propel v5 definitely has more bounce for a race, but the novablast 4 is a little more stable and I prefer it for everyday runs. So if you want something to put a lot of training miles on I'd go novablast 4

This gave me more of a daily trainer vibe and the Speedworks was definitely faster and more aggressive - so I'd choose based on that. The propel for an everyday running, walking, etc shoe and the Speedworks if you want something for faster running or even racing

100%. So much better. Bouncier, softer, more comfortable, more fun. The 880 felt super flat and hard - I didn't get any response and the impact protection felt mediocre. The propel v5 is actually super enjoyable to run in and I prefer it so far over some much more expensive shoes

I've seen a trail shoe called the FuelCell venym that's like a propel/rebel type shoe for the trails. But it's not available in the US for some reason ... I'm wondering if they're planning to make the first fuelcell trail shoe something more "exciting" and expensive to go up against the Nike ultrafly and adidas agravic speed

860 is one of my favorites of the year. Just the right blend of comfortable and fun. Feels a little more supportive than the propel as well which I like, especially since I'm getting in a lot of miles

Adidas have the Adios collection which I think is specific to high performance shoes, Adizero is just the term they use for "lightweight" which is applied to all their products that they consider lightweight, like shorts, t-shirts, shirts, jackets, caps'n'hats, shoes. hence, adios (perfomance) adizero (lightweight) Pro (professional level) Evo 1 (shoe name) Adizero (lightweight) Boston 12 (shoe name, (no adios, no pro, a daily trainer)) Adizero running jacket (lightweight, not a shoe) Adios running jacket (not a shoe, not available, doesn't exist, because it's not a shoe) where the actual "Adios" (shoe name) comes into this... I have no idea, possibly a flaw in the German engineering.

Darn it. It disappoints me to hear you say the Propel is a tight fit. I wanted V4 so badly but my wide high arched foot was not comfortable in that shoe and I suspect by what you said in this video I will suffer the same fate.

The width actually wasn't bad - I didn't have any rubbing on the side. Most of the new balance shoes I've tried this year were decently wide. You should be okay if you go up half a size - it was really the length that was the issue
