György Sándor Ligeti (Hungarian: Ligeti György Sándor [ˈliɡɛti ˈɟørɟ ˈʃaːndor]; 28 May 1923 - 12 June 2006) was a composer of contemporary classical music. He has been described as "one of the most important avant-garde composers in the latter half of the twentieth century" and "one of the most innovative and influential among progressive figures of his time".
Born in Transylvania, Romania, he lived in Hungary before emigrating and becoming an Austrian citizen. (Wikipedia)

Mein Dank für diesen Film muss ich hier ausgiebig formulieren. Dieser macht mich glücklich. Er macht mich süchtig. Denn die ganze Performance ist pure Magie. Immer wieder klicke ich, um wiederum 10 Minuten und 27 Sekunden berauscht zu sein. Das ist wie eine Medizin. Ich klicke es nochmal neu und bin der 615.Zuschauer, der seinen Daumen nach oben hält. Ein Dank an Jorge Liebermann, dafür, dass er dieses Erlebnis der Weltöffentlichkeit zur Verfügung stellt. Ich reiche es weiter. Ein weiterer Dank an das ganze Orchester, an Sir Simon Rattle und die alles überragende Barbara Hannigan. Sie ist meine Weihnachtsentdeckung für das Jahr 2017. Ihre Performance ist überwältigend. Alles in Allem. Sie ist kindlich-erwachsen und gleichzeitig SEXY und verspielt. Neckisch und darum steckt die Sucht in ihrer magischen Verführung mit ihrer begnadeten Stimme, die ein Instrument ist, welches ich bisher in dieser Form noch nicht kannte. Danke, verehrte Barbara Hannigan. Ich werde mir einzelne Fotostudien aus Ihren Filmen im Internet heraus laden, um Studienmaterial zu haben, damit ich Ihnen ein Gemälde widmen kann, nebst den dazu gehörenden Filmen, welche die Entstehung zeigen sollen. Eine Bitte und Frage: Darf ich die Musik als Tonhintergrund verwenden? Das wäre eigentlich unbedingt nötig. Weil ich es nicht weiß, ob ich sie verwenden darf, werde ich eigene produzierte Klänge verwenden. Allen kommenden Zuschauern dieses Filmes wünsche ich auch diese Verzauberung zu erleben, welche ich heute am 24.12.2017, also dem Christkindltag erleben darf. Knox G.Stallbauer

Amazing piece and performance. Not only the musical performance, but the acting and costume. I wish I know what it all means. The part where Hannigan takes over the conducting is amusing, because I know that sometimes she conducts, and she conducts and sings at the same time.

I watch this on a regular basis. It has something to do with a) breaking free of one's chains, b) losing the ball (and chain), c) revolting against reality and it's rules, d) screaming out loud, and 47 other parameters. I have the greatest respect for Ligeti but I wish I had the brain power to memorize even single page of his music for piano. ...but I just don't see any patterns - ( _are there any???_ ). I guess as in the immortal words of Bill and Ted (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mZmjgth225apYn0.html) "I'm not worthy!"
