NEW Benchmade Shootout OTF Review

Here I go over my thoughts on the New Benchmade Shootout OTF
Features:
Tanto style blade made from CPM CRU-WEAR carbon steel with a flat earth colored PVD finish.
Thumb slide opener for snappy opening and closing action.
CF-Elite handle with a carbide glass breaker.
Reversible deep-carry pocket clip.
Description:
The Shootout is a Benchmade OTF automatic knife with some seriously great attributes. It features a lightweight CF-Elite handle with a reversible pocket clip, and a CRU-WAER super steel blade with a PVD finish.
While it's not an issue for all, for others, symmetry is a must. We're happy to report that the Benchmade Shootout has a centered blade, not offset like many OTF knives.
Loving the look, but not feeling the OTF automatic? Check out the Benchmade Bailout! It bears a striking resemblance.

People buy a carbon fiber knife and complain about it being light. Definitely the world we live in.

@@BC08 it says carbon elite right on the box. Benchmades website even says the handles are carbon fiber.

@@wsmaga I don’t know what to tell you but CF-Elite is *NOT* carbon fiber nor did you read that on Benchmade’s website. Benchmade sells actual carbon fiber scales on the 940-1 and the 535-3- and they call them carbon fiber and not CF-Elite. Wonder why? Maybe that because CF-elite is a carbon reinforced nylon polymer and not true carbon fiber? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I left the store the first time after holding one thinking it was just to light and flimsy. Did get one later and don’t regret it at all. The blade is amazing! I do agree benchmades are getting too pricey but this is a very good knife that will hold up trust me!

Awesome knife, just picked it up 2 weeks ago. I mean this in the best way but this is the Glock of knives. Everyone should carry a bench made shootout.

Perfect, a carry knife should be solid, but light, Alloy Handle are outdated

I'm glad you are happy with this purchase. Since I can't carry an OTF this big in Cali I don't even know if I like them in general or not. They look extremely cool though! Thanks Scott!

I got mine a week or so ago and I thought the same thing when I opened it. It felt like plastic and cheap. But it’s an AMAZING knife

CF Elite feels cheap, but as long as it takes a beating then it doesnt matter. This Shootout is the first OTF that has interested me as a EDC OTF

My up and down movement is no different than any other OTF I have ever had before but the side to side is pretty bad. Does your move a good bit side to side as well?

Yes it actually does. It rocks side to side and up and down a bit more than I would like.

That is my only knock so far but thinking about taking it apart or sending it back. Haven’t decided yet. Want to make sure I can give it some real use and if not out it goes.

Decided to take apart. The blade has a retaining block screwed on it similar to a Guardian Tactical. Tightened that screw to the nut that is on the other side of the blade. Put it back together and because they metal slide is sandwiched between the CF elite inside I tighten that well too. Now it only has about 5 degrees of side to side play as opposed to the 20-25 degrees I was getting at the tip when opened. That is slightly worse than my MT’s but very usable. May try to go further later but this may have saved it from going back for me as it isn’t bad now compared to lost OTF’s. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the info shared.

Would you recommend this knife as a edc and I have never had a benchmade

It depends on what type of work or use that you will be doing with it. I do think that it's a great everyday knife for most people. It's very light in the pocket. Easy to deploy. As long as you wouldn't be cutting any type of foods or sticky / gunky material I would say yes. Let me know what specifically you would typically be cutting

@@jaredvanbuskirk8064 yes I think you would be fine with using it to do those things. If you are in the market for a OTF for your EDC this would be a great choice that won't break the bank

Or in the army you can technically use it cleaning the motor pool. Just jk. I’ve been watching this knife for a while now. I have a benchmade afo. I’ve always been hesitant about getting these types of knives because the opening. I don’t know how I would clean and lube it. Of course they have the lifetime warranty but you can’t take ‘em apart. I might have to pull the trigger and try it out. But great video. I always hear 50/50 on this knife.

It just doesn't look very sturdy to me. Only four screws holding it together. I'm going for the Hogue exploit looks a little sturdier same price

can you make a video doing an in depth disassembly/ reassembly ? i really want one but i have to know how well that lock up is and how sturdy that plastic is...

Sorry but no. I dont have that skill set to take a knife like this apart. I have been looking for a video of someone doing that and up to now i havent found any.

@@Tom-cp6yj it's my knife... I paid $300 for it, I want to make sure I'm not carrying a cheap gas station knife. And if I bought it I'll break it open and crap in it before I put it back together if I so choose

May not want to watch anymore videos. Appreciate your feedback but I'm all over the place and some technical info as in blade steel could be wrong. Most of my stuff is opinion. Things I think or feel for entertainment. People can look at what I'm showing and listen to thoughts. To my best knowledge even though yes cruwear has been around awhile this knife has a new way of doing it. Then again I'm no expert. Just a guy who likes talking about knives.
