Why do we ride bikes like the RT? I ride every working day - 30kms into town on the motor way - 90 to 100kms /hr and home again. All weathers - day and night. The RT just cruises along, good wind and rain protection. My body doesn't ache, when it's cold the heated seat and grips are beaut. When it is super hot - leave the screen down and get the breeze. Reliable - my RT has not had the gripes we see on the internet and my local BMW dealer so far hasn't cost me the earth for services. When I was in my 20s, 30s and 40 I had road and cruiser bikes - in my 60s now and I am too stiff to lay down over the tank or put up with the bum numbing vibrations from the cruiser. When I ride long distances (sometimes 300kms in one go) , I find the RT to be a forgiving bike, plenty of torque for overtaking or when I forget to down shift for that hill and great brakes for those O dear moments when you come over a crest to find a slow moving mass of metal or the odd cow. I love my RT and it is my forever bike and my son is keen to inherit it (not for a long time yet says me). Thanks for the video = that Volvo looked pretty nice as it cruised past.

Nearly Retired To: Nearly Retired From: Already Retired. 100% in agreement with everything you said. While I don’t ride as much as you do because being retired, my rides are mainly for pure pleasure instead of necessity but if I were still gainfully employed I would ride like you and enjoy every minute. The RT is my one and only and I will go riding off into my sunset with it. How much do I love my RT? Let me count the ways....

My first new BMW was a 97 R1100RT - no better bike for my 150 mile daily round trip from Tewkesbury to Cardiff in all weathers. At the time I always had a second "more exciting" bike to ride but it was the RT that clocked up the miles. When I had to quickly get back home and return straight back to Cardiff I chose my RT not my GS. I still remember losing the guy on the Fazer 1000 braking late and hard approaching turns and roundabouts on that trip - poor chap. Over time I've had more 4s and 6s from BMW than twins but I do wonder whether it's time to go back to a RT. Fantastic all-rounder

I recently rode the K1600B and the 1250RT back to back at a dealership demo event. I was fully anticipating being in love with the big 6 cylinder bike (currently on a Goldwing GL1800 and a Harley Road King and a former KZ1000 sort of rider) but to my surprise, I not only didn't care for it in the least but was completely smitten with the RT. For everyday riding, distance touring, grocery getting and bombing around town its for me the RT hands down.

This bike is NOT for everyone. It’s calling is for (frankly speaking) people with sufficient funds, that like the RT’s abundant comfort and convenience along with super handling and torquey power. It makes no pretense about what it does or how it does it. If the ‘connection’ isn’t there, BMW and other Manufacturers have many other choices for you. But if you want a lightweight (relatively speaking) touring bike that can also do occasional corner carving and still run down to the grocery store for milk and bread, this might be your dream machine. Good review. Thanks!

Hi Buddy from South Africa 🇿🇦. I just picked up my New 2021 RT a few days ago, with the new TFT dash. Traded in my k1600 bagger for the RT. Only done 500km, but so far no regrets and I welcome the less weight and nimbleness. thanks for a great review mate...keep safe

The seat you sold me has made such a positive difference to my ride experience. I no longer fall off it when at a stand as I can now put my feet flat on the floor!

Very factual and great review! Im 68 already, and it looks like the RT or one of the GS would be my choice for buying a bike for myself. I tend to like a heavy bike to stay more glued to the road, along with something that's smooth and dependable. Either one of these steel ponies would fit that part well. Ill have to try out the suspension control and get used to that. Kind of amazing what has been changed over the years. The Bike I used to ride was no dinosaur, by any means, but it was kind of old and didn't have any of this electronic stuff on it. It was an airhead , a 1953 version., less than half the size engine that's offered nowadays, in fact when they came out with 1000cc bikes , back then I thought "That's some Crazy Overkill!" Hehehe now I chuckle over that thought. Today's BMW are some fine machines! Always superior over any other brand in engineering and innovations. They've always held that title, regardless of what year they were built! Even as far back as when mine was built, 1953 Nothing has changed in that regard. I say that, and mine wasnt top of the line. Mine was only 500cc. At that time the R/69/S was considered Mr. Big Boy.

I’m just about at the stage of getting an unrestricted licence. I have a CBR 500R ATM. I plan to use the Next bike as a commuter, but also fir twisties and 2 up riding with the other half. Now I am tossing up between the RT and the RS. I suppose I just need to go for some test rides and choose . I am thinking the RS might be but more sporty and I am 5’11 , if too windy just get an OEM larger windscreen. Thanks for videos , hopefully make the decision easier.

What is the R1250RT like when it comes to man-handling it backwards and forwards in tight spaces and on the camber of inner-city roads; and using the main stand etc. (I'm thinking or getting back to biking after an absence of 18 years - and I'm not as young as I was.)

@@TheForeigner68 Thanks for that. I still have vivid memories of when I had parked my BMW (I think it was an R1000RT in the 80's or 90's) on the camber of a road, and when I pulled it off the main stand, the bike fell away from me, dragging me on top of it. Lifting the bike back upright was no easy matter, as I recall !

Well said re feeling disconnected. I never got the point of bikes like this really...You've got so many of the negatives of bike riding (danger), but so little of the positive. The RS, on the other hand, seems more attractive (although I haven't ridden one, so this is speculative). Great review - thanks for posting.

Michelangelo Get a GSA, more luggage capacity and more fun to ride and just as comfortable.
@darkdestroyer6634
@darkdestroyer6634 5 жыл бұрын
@@IanTed GSAs are good - I had an 1150 and an early camhead 1200 - but that extra luggage capacity is due to incredibly wide panniers. In practical terms you can carry as much on a RT by strapping bags to the rack plus you can also buy narrower pannier lids to make commuting with panniers easier. or if you really wanted you could buy huge aluminium boxes and fit them to the RT The GSA also isn't close to the RT in hard driving rain, the RT offers much more protection. Other downside to the GSA; the extra height does mean an average height guy wont be putting both feet firmly on the ground so sometimes you do get awkward moments when the camber is against you. And my 2010 GSA was the worst bike I ever had for catching sidewinds - I'd have to stick my leg out as an air brake to counter the pull. On the plus side I always liked the larger fuel tank on my GSAs - much less time spent in filling stations! I will be test riding the 1250 RT and the GSA when I look to replace my K1600GT

Michelangelo I’d go with the RT.The K1600 is too much bike.I think the RT is the sweet spot for very manageable weight and nimbleness.The GS is one of the ugliest motorcycles I’ve ever seen(JMO), but that,of course,is purely subjective.RT all day.👍
