Hi! Was just wondering if you can have multiple reverbs on? And can you change the order of the effects for example reverb before distortion etc. I havent found any of these ”cheaper” multi fx that can actually do that? /Your neighbourhood Shoegazer😊

I’m a simple man. I see BOSS, and I know it’s a quality product. If I didn’t have access to the BOSS Tone Studio for my Katana, this would be a unit I’d seriously consider. Goes to show how great the Katana line is.

It’s nice to have the choice of either or analog with knobs or digital touchscreen, At affordable low prices and sound great professional (if you know what you’re doing when editing parameters and not overdoing everything so it’s a messy wash of noise and doesn’t sound natural), less is more in my experience. As guitarists and recording musicians/producers nowadays we have a huge variety of excellent sounding affordable gear at our fingertips , and the choice to go whatever route that suits everyones individual preference.

@@pizzaisgood4877but thats exactly my point. If you need all the digitalness of it, just connect it to your phone or computer and you have all the power you could possibly want from the tone central app thing. But, after everything is setup the way you like, its refreshing to just have normal knobs to turn and make adjustments on the go, thats what i like about this unit so much

The down side is that once you create a few presets and change between them, the knobs will no longer reflect your settings.

To each his/her own, but I went from a ME-70 to a Headrush MX-5 and became a much more productive and organized player, with a much wider toolkit of sounds. I think touch screens are a huge benefit to easily accessing and managing effects.

When I was starting out playing guitar my guitar teacher had an ME-50. I remember him showing me all the cool effects on it. It was so cool. One year for Xmas, I asked my parents for an Eipihone G400 Faded and my dad being the absolute legend that he is, wanted to go the extra mile and asked the guy in the store for something cool that would be useful and he recommend the ME-50 so my dad did a deal on the G400 and ME-50. I was completely unaware of this at the time. Come Xmas, I knew the G400 was there, but I didn't expect an extra box and couldn't believe he got me an ME-50. I'd never even mentioned one before, it was complete coincidence. 15 or so years later, I still have that G400 and I still have the ME-50 and while my rig consists of a Marshall Plexi, one boost pedal and whatever guitar I plug into it, I still plug in the ME-50 sometimes and have a play with it. I've also used it to plug into two amps at once a few times. Still to this day, it comes in useful and is fun to mess around with.

The one negative for this is that they took the Aux input away and replaced it with the (not included) Bluetooth dongle which costs around £49 extra. The aux was a simple cheap way to jam along with the Boss ME-80.

I really dig modelling and multi effects but I find most these units have too many options. I’d rather have 11 decent amps than 111 and I’m the kind of person who is happy with a knob the just says ‘reverb’. I don’t want to worry about parameters like ‘distant reflection hi cut’, or wherever. Well done Boss, you’ve won me over. Now I’d better start saving up for one!

This is mint. I briefly owned the Headrush MX-5 for a 'chuck in a bag' effects pedal, but chinned it off pretty quickly as really wanted to be able to lean down and quickly tweak a tone mid-jam/gig. This would have been the much more ideal solution!

Made my day! I just sold my Headrush Gigboard to go back to my ME-70. It’s just so easy and sounds great in my amp. But it needed an update! Been holding off the ME-80, hoping for an FX loop. Update: Got my ME-90. The Modulation, Delays and tracking blow the ME-70 out of the water. The hidden Auto-Wah is top notch and AC Sim are top notch as well. The latter is one of the best I’ve used. Live, I’ll use an EQ and Compressor before the unit to open up the Comp section.

Over last weekend, I built myself a pedalboard that really goes above and beyond anything available commercially. And I'd spent less than $140 on materials, so I was feeling really good about myself. However, I realized at that point that I'd spent over $3000 on my effects and still have room for about 5-6 more pedals. I'm actually really dumb.

Collecting pedals is fun. I have over 30 Boss pedals, including the 40th Anniversary 3 pedal boxed set (OD-1, PH-1, SP-1), that cost me about $700, but I just love Boss pedals and it was way cheaper than buying vintage ones seperately. I wish they would do a Waza Slow Gear. I also wish I had grabbed a TB-2 Tone Bender when they came out, people are selling them for more than double what they sold for new 🤦‍♂️

I agree, I just got back into playing six months ago. Played for three months when I was 16 back in 1996. My brothers friend sold me his squire and Marshall DSL15 (I think 15? It had the same amount of dials as the new DSL20's) for $300 all in cables included. The first pedal I bought was a Boss FX69 Grunge pedal (gen-1) for like $140 brand new. Of course everyone was chasing that Nirvana tone. But, picking up the guitar recently again and I'm playing an olympic pearl Fender player plus SSS Strat and a Yamaha THR10II. I'm thinking of getting a Marshall DSL tube amp again because started playing in a 3/pc 90's punk-grunge jam band and I need to be able to cut through the drummer and this pedal makes sense to me. I'm sure the newer more expensive Multi/FX pedals can do more but for where I'm at this makes more sense, especially for around $350 and you don't need to be a computer sound engineer to shape a tone. I do love the THRII though.... I'm glad I bought it but also having a looper would be huge for me at this price

The great thing about having manual knobs is that you do not have to be precise and then you can see where you twisted it to. Then you can go back and twisted it more, or less. The thing is tactile, like an instrument. Digital menus do not allow this, that's why I steer clear of them.

I have had this unit for a couple of months now, gigged with it for about 10 shows. The preamp settings are not my favourite - feels a little too compressed, therefore, I use the 4-cable method to the clean channel on my Fender Super Sonic 22. This works amazing and very compact cuz stage room can be a challenge. I use bluetooth on my phone to bring up the proper bank unless you can remember where everything is...I can't. This is great unit for all the cover songs we perform from the 70's to 90's.

I need a big pallette and also economy of space. Couldn't ask for a better tool. I also teach. For intermediate students who are still exploring, multi/FX like this can be an economical alternative to buying lots of pedals and managing that mess of cable and boxes until they know what they want. In my own band the only pedal I use is a flanger set deep and slow...barely there. Geez, what great playeng! Great review too. Cheers!

Plus, it appears more durable and yet still only requires the boss 9v adapter compared to the larger and more complex adapter of the GX. If I drove an hour to a gig and forgot my adapter at home, I'd be in big trouble. With this, I could use batteries or just borrow one.

I have the GT-1 and the GX-100. I prefer the sound of the GT-1. I'm thinking of selling my GX-100 as well. I think the ME-90 would fit my needs better if I wanted to "upgrade" from the GT-1.
@brandonmcpherson

@@ludblight The GT-1 has a bigger processor, right? Is there something you can name about the sound difference between the two units, or is it the more abstract touchy-feely adjectives we all struggle with at times when describing tone? :)

Thats pretty smart, looks like they've thrown a lot of the Katana effects into a floor unit (maybe missing a trick and re-branding it a little to "Katana Floor"?!). These are really just good solutions for people - let you have access to a bunch of effects you otherwise, as Lee alludes to, need to spend a bunch of cash on trying.

Boss keep quiet about the Katana technology, but after a few minutes of wading through the interweb it seems that it uses COSM, so the ME-90's AIRD actually improves on it!
@vmx23
@vmx23 7 ай бұрын
@@digitalchris6681boss has said since day one that katana uses tube logic modelling tech like their flagship waza amp and top of the line blues cube amps. Not sure why the myth persist till today that Katana uses COSM. The katana is practically a budget waza amp with tons of effects. Anyone who has played boss pedals with cosm knows that the katana sounded superior.

I bought a ME-5 in 1989 and man, I was so happy. I could make patches for every song on stage and it sounded really good. it was expensive at the time, but worth every penny! The ME-90 is absolutely versatile, but they really should have made the display bigger, so you can actually name each patch!

I still think that is easier to use than something with a screen and a million menus. It seems pretty organized and to the point, like having the different types of effects grouped together with their control knobs.

That's only what a regular pedalboard would look like. In fact, it would look even more intimidating. Not to mention the alternatives (the multi fx with screens) look even more confusing/intimidating, at least to me.

Also will say after carefully listening, the chorus on this sounds better to my ears than the Hx choruses… And I have use the HX stomp for the last several years, each Sunday, week in and week out at my church… Love my stomp, but outside of delays and reverb (need hands on), I would say this is an incredible bargain.

Great demo chaps! Thank you. I have a Boss GT-10. Have always found it just way too complicated to programme. Need to retire it I think. Had an ME-10 years ago - the ME-90 looks like the perfect evolution. I much prefer a muti-effect unit to multiple individual pedals - it eliminates the need to tap dance when you're playing live! Will get my pre-order in for the ME-90!

What caught me was that for each effect you demonstrated, however whacky, Pete did something musically interesting to show it off... but then is clearly most at home with just a kiss of reverb. Skills.

after owning the ME-50, ME-70 and ME-80 this excites me. The later ones are the best straight into the front of the amp modelers ive played, this allows the use of a looper without issues. If you dont believe me, look at the sold listings for me-80's, they go for $220 and up and theyre only $275 new (299 map but there r always coupons).

Apologies if this question is ridiculously stupid. With the COMP/FX1, does it mean you can't use the compressor at the same time as any of the other effects on the dial. So if you want to use the octave effect, you have to sacrifice compression?
