Breitling have launched some new watches for 2020. These are the new watches they would have launched at Baselworld 2020, had they been going and had Baselworld gone ahead.

The new Chronomat is where the revival gets real. Not only attracting the Breitling history nerds like for the Top time also but the mainstream guys who are new to the brand or forgot about it during the last 2 decades. Kern really has a magic touch. Even the stuff he hasn't touched so much, like the Superocean, is nicely cleaned up with simpler dials.

Breitling is heading in the right direction, and I appreciate how the new Chronomat Bentley edition doesn't have gaudy branding everywhere for the car, just the Bentley name in writing on the caseback, as it should be.

The Chronomat is the star of the show. I have showed it to about a half dozen people. Each one of them has said, that is a good looking watch. I think Breitling is on the way back. I really like where they are headed. I love the Premiere line as well.

Breitling are definitely on the up, I really like the Superocean! Everyone seems obsessed with the screw down crown (and never go near water with their watches), it’s not claiming to be a diver, just a watch you can enjoy around water.

While that's true it does give peace of mind that if you end up in the water for whatever reason, your not going to screw up an expensive watch. It's just a cost save from Breitling that won't be reflected in the price. But it will drop like a stone on the grey market.

i mean, it's actually their diver watch line. the superocean heritage and superocean lines both have much better water resistances than this superocean heritage 57.

@@vinceslapchopper it's cheap garbage that Breitling want to sell for over 4k. As others have pointed out the Rado Captain Cook is a superior watch but a fraction of the price. I wouldn't go near it even on the grey market.

Err... ‘SuperOcean’ more like ‘SuperPaddlingPool’ you get 100m water resistance on watches costing £300 and you’d certainly expect better at 4K. A Rado Captain Cook is half the price but twice the watch at 300m depth rating. It’s a pass.

Breitling is one of my favorite brands. Bentley models are pure class. Premier B01 line is really underrated. Tho instead of new Superocean I'd recommend Rado Captain Cook (similar looking, but proper dive watch: 42mm, 300m WR, 80h power reserve, $1800) Wish my Avenger II GMT had more power reserve.

The bezel on the super ocean is designed as such to protect the crystal. The concave design prevents the crystal from making contact with the ground when face down, so will not be damaged when dropped or dragged along a rough surface.

I love the Superocean heritage 57. I own the regular Heritage in red gold/steel and it's amazing. Going to buy the new Limited edition heritage 57. Buy what you like.

Love your content in general, but thought this particular video wasn’t totally fair. Please take it in stride, just a fellow watch fan. Thanks for more Breitling coverage, much appreciated: The Superocean 57 is 9.99mm thick, making the b20 movement incompatible and 200-300m water resistance near impossible at that thinness. For comparison, seamaster, submariner, and fifty fathoms are all 13mm+ thick. The chronomat Rouleaux bracelet is an iconic trademark of the brand from the pre-bling 80s era. This watch looks amazing tbh, universal acclaim from the watch community. Top time is great, glad you like it. Also - would have loved coverage of Kern’s other major launches: the Navi 806 1959 reedition, AVI 765 copilot reedition, and Premier B01. I imagine you would love all three of those watches like you loved the top time. Without coverage of these watches, not a holistic review of today’s new Breitling.

The b17 movement is the selita Sw 200-1 movement. They changed it with the new colt. You can see the difference when you look at the power reserve. The eta has 42 hours and the selita 38.

Back in the mid 2000s the superocean and steelfish had depth ratings of 1500m and 2000m. But that was back when breiting made proper tool watches, alas.

Why does the oris aquis have 300 Meters waters resistance, while the oris diver 65 only has 100? Neither makes sense.

My favorite is the super ocean heritage 46 blue with the B20 mouvement. Like Tudor inside and the fact that it as COSC certification

Great Breitling update - thank you Adrian. I love that Breitling is releasing new watches when everyone else isn't - it is smart marketing move...this is much more interesting offering than they have had in the past but my problem is not with them but that I would much rather buy watches from their competition.

The Top Time and new Chronomat are pretty cool watches. I think Breitling is taking a page out of the Tudor playbook and that's good. I think Breitling is making a turn around and I do like what is going on with the Navitimer line. It's a shame about the bezel on the 57 could have been great if they had used the bezel from the 1960s.

I agree, the Top Time's a stunner. But it's going to be too large for me and for many I suspect, particularly with those long, straight lugs. But it was ever thus with Breitling.

They’re slowly getting better but proves that slow and steady evolution of design is the mainstay along with reliability/durability. Now move onto in-house movements and make it a package deal!

Something good about breitling is the prices are very good, my first automatic watch was a breitling colt, I paid on eBay used for $1700 usd, now I have 34 watches between breitling-IWc-Panerai-omega-Rolex-Patek

I think the brand is slowly improving.I like the new Superocean case , not crazy about the indices . They should have increased water resistance to 200 m. I think the Chronomat is an improvement over the old one.

Adrian, have a look at the PanAm, SwissAir and TWA Navitimer editions. They resurrect some of the Brietling 'fun' which you saw in the Top TiME.

SOH2 was by far the best looking watch by Breitling in my eyes. I liked the upgraded ceramic bezel from the SOH, the change in hour and minute hands, and particularly loved the B01 chronograph dials. When I heard Breitling was releasing new watches I was hoping that the SOH2 line would be among the included releases, myself hoping for the return of the small seconds complication, more chronograph colour options and sizes (40mm). The actual release missed the mark in my eyes, and makes Breitling seem like a follower in the horological world attempting to cash in on heritage and retro styling instead of stepping up as a leader and moving forward with the success that was the SOH2. A pity. My only hope is that this latest release causes SOH2 B01 chronograph panda to go down in price so that maybe I can get one without spending a fortune. Love your content, yet another great video from Bark&Jack! Keep up the good work Adrian, stay healthy.

Chronomat reminds me of a Tag, and I don’t like the inward sloping bezel on the diver, sort of spoon shape, and I’d always be checking the non locking crown I think . If I had to pick one it would be the last one .

Superocean heritage looks slick, nice dimensions on it too. Only thing that subtracts is lack of a screw-down crown. Dunno why they went with that.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Breitling and own two. Their connection to automotive & aviation passions secured my interest. It really seems like their current branding is targeting young people on the grind, which is their appropriate market. I do think to really secure this, their new designs are decent but leave something to be desired. A SuperOcean that could compete with the aesthetic of a Yachtmaster II would be nice, but I appreciate that they are keeping original. Hope the best for the brand!

Breitling has stepped their game considerably. I like the new Chronomat, Navitimer, and to a lesser degree the Super Ocean. On wrist they are excellent.

These watches are perfectly "on-trend". But that is also the issue. Is it really interesting for another watch brand to go the vintage re-issue route by re-releasing 60's and 70's designs? Luckily the Chronomat retains something of Breitling's design language without compromising its entire look to fit in with the retro/vintage craze. I don't think the Top-Time, but the Chronomat is the way forward for Breitling as a brand in terms of adjusting their designs to appeal to the current consumer.

Love the Top Time - not keen on the others as much but Brietling appear to be on their way back. What do you think of the move by Bremont next year to go in house movement - make the brand more acceptable to the watch world?

I just picked up a Superocean ll 44mm and I'm very happy. The watch is rated at 1000M. I wear it to the beach and it's great. Funny thing is, I never wear my Sea dweller to the beach, because it seems to get a new scratch everytime. Superocean ll is a great tool watch!

Hi Adrian - Here are my thoughts on the Superocean crown. I'm not a huge Breitling fan and so I'm not too familiar with the superocean's pedigree, however I'm a sailor and I appreciate the concept of maritime watches (regatta timers, etc) that are separate from dive watches. Being as I'm not a diver, I don't need the insane water resistance that we've come to get used to in popular dive watches. 100m-150m is fine for someone like me who, say, submerges my watch daily while working on something under the surface, but who will never dive. The non-threaded crown on a piece with "ocean" in its name is fairly sensible by me - there's plenty work to do in a maritime environment other than dive, and I'm not sure the superocean is marketed/used as a diver, although I could be totally wrong about that.

Can you make a video about how to clean leather watch strap? I notice there are many methods online that seems to be cleaning just the surface of the strap with baking soda, how do we deal with the internal part of the strap? I can't help but to wonder the internal would have accumulate years of sweat, is there a way to wash leather strap with mild soap water just to make sure the internal is clean as well?

Like the Diver and chronomat, not as keen on the 3rd (too small) or the Top Time. Just wish they'd kept the wings on their logo (I know historically the plain "B" came first, but it just looks naff IMHO) Cheers mate, stay healthy everyone 👍🏻

The new in house mouvement are made by Tudor with a dedicated finish by Breitling. For a top brand, this must be real in house mouvement even if the ETA are good and reliable.

I like those lady Navitimers, but I'd prefer a white bezel as the larger ones have. And why only 30m water resistance? Of these, the green and rose gold Chronomats are my favorites.

Love to see the new Chronomat! I have one from 1994 that I bought new and I still love it (ref B13048). You're right, it looks way better on a leather strap. Where did you find that ad appearing at :42 into your video? Mine is exactly like the one in the upper left (white dial), except mine has the little co-pilot on the side which makes it even cooler in my book. I'd love to have a copy of that ad, though, for my memorabilia collection.

Bought my Chronomat in 96 on a leather strap then bought the Bullit a year later. Used to switch them out according to the season until the strap wore out. I should get another. I'm going to look hard at the new one. Hey my Chronomat has as anniversary coming up 25 years. Maybe I should get the new one?

I've been saying this on other sites since the new Super Ocean 57 came out a few a few days ago. It's not a dive watch. It's a beach/boat/surf watch. It you want a dive watch from Breitling you look a the Super Ocean or the Super Ocean Heritage which I bought last Christmas. They are both Rated dive watches. This watch is for young active Summer people. It's also priced that way. Now the Chronomat is a winner. I have one from 1996 and the resemblance is amazing. My only complaint is as Adrian said its thick a maybe still a tad to big. But I want to wait and try it on. My Super Ocean Heritage.42mm is almost the same dimensions and it fits great on the rubber strap. Remember both our tool/sports watches they are supposed to be bold. Yes I'm a Breitling fan boy.

When that Top Time was first released I was intrigued and wanted to find out more. The price initially seemed attractive but then I learned that it has an ETA based movement and that was it. Also, the case dimensions are on the large side for my liking. I don’t get why they didn’t use their in-house chronograph movement

Audemars Piguet price point, the watch is £4K not £6k and that is what a top time was all about originally, having an entry level Breitling chronograph, also I have a feeling they have to take a minimum quantity of eta movements per year to maintain supply and so using in limited watches which have other selling points is a good strategy

The Top Time is gorgeous, and a excellent execution of a vintage chronograph into a wearable and handsome modern interpretation. But, if someone was to come ask me what I would recommend for a funky vintage style chrono, bang for buck the Tissot 1973 just pips it. Both are faithful to their original design, both run oversized crowns and vintage style button pushers, both run the eta/valjoux 7753, only difference is the Tissot is half the price.

I didn't get Breitling until I visited a store and handled a bunch of their pieces in person. While I actually dislike Rolex and Tutor, I really like Breitling's vibe. I really like the look of all these pieces. There's a sense of grandiosity about Breitling that makes sense to me when I'm feeling megalomaniacal, which is most of the time.

You need to have a connection to the brand/model to truly enjoy the watch. I love sailing, racing, tech and the outdoors. That led me to Omega Seamaster, racing chrono, moonwatch and G10 NATO/G Shock.

The bullet bracelet on the new Chronomat 42 is more than attractive. It represents a brilliant move by Breitling to reprise an iconic feature of the Chronomat from decades ago. As for resembling the *Royal Oak*, I don’t see that at all.

Top Time is very attractive. It seems to reach the same range as the Zenith El Primero, with a little more guts and grunt. Probably the first Breitling that has ever caught my eye.

Hi Adrian, I have the same about Breitling. It was the watch that I was looking at in my youth, but when I became older Breitling was not my taste anymore. I like the Toptime and the Chronomat with the interesting bracelet, but the prices are insane imho. The tech is there on the Chronomat but I would not buy it voor around 8K at retail, when Breitling prices are falling down fast. Maybe I would buy the Chronomat for 5K but it is not a need to have. There are a lot more interesting brands possible at 5K or even 8K and when I save some more (starting from 8K), watches above 10K will be in reach on the grey market. Breitling asks 8K for the Chronomat, but you can buy a Omega Speedmaster and a Tudor BB for that amount of money.

When I first saw pictures of the Chronomat I thought that was a home run. I think all the dials combinations are gorgeous except the tricolori and the silver dial with RG accents. If you do two tone, do it all the way like blue and grey dial two tone, with actually gold bezel instead of gold accents on bezel, some gold accents on bracelet to make it feel like a TT and not a weird SS with some gold accents. I was thinking of maybe picking up a reverse panda, green Bentley or a blue dial down the line. Then I looked at the thickness and it ruined it for me. 15.1mm is way too much. I am definitely not writing it off just yet, but most likely it's out.

The key thing that strikes me about the '57 Superocean is the bezel is like a saucer. The surfer heritage instantly makes me think of water and sand getting stuck in there?

I’m a surfer and can’t see the specs on the new super ocean work for me; 10 bar can cut it on paper but not sure the push/pull crown makes it practical day in and day out. (Let’s call it 10 bar, instead of 100m shall we?). The new Chronomat sounds more tempting... integrated, bullet inspired bracelet, 42mm, 20 bar, B-01, makes it more tempting for a go anywhere, do anything for an urban worker that surfs during the weekends. As you welcome comments, these are my two cents.

The Green dial Chronomat in person is pretty stunning, assuming it is the same as the green dial Premiere. I hate the bullet bracelet though, some things should have been left in the 80’s. My favorite new release from them is the AVI 765 Co-Pilot which is a throwback to a 1960’s classic. I also like the B01 Norton Premiere and the B01 Navitimer is a classic.

I was surprised Jack could not see that the bracelet was an homage to the iconic bullet bracelet! It looks great in green. Breitling are real tool watches, always had a tough image, think they have some goodies.
