More energy than a 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, and 7mm Rem Mag… plus increased penetration. That’s what you get with the new for 2021 Browning 6.8 Western! Brady showcases the new 6.8 Western that he has been testing this past fall. Also, he was able to take it on a mule deer hunt and had his friend take a great buck with it.

The secret to good customer relations and gun sales is make enough ammo for the guns that they have already bought from you😳
@thomasd6509

Ammo manufacturers are producing more than they ever have before, literally running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Almost 10 million new gun owners in a matter of months makes demand hard to keep up with. Your beef is with the people afraid of a govt take over who are buying up all the ammo they can find, and not so much the producers.

It's the 270 WSM ... they changed the degree on the shoulder and shortened it a tad then used a faster twist barrel to stabilize high bc bullets. Much like how the 6.5 Creedmoor was planned. Which is the only way the Creedmoor is better than the 260 Remington is using the same dialogue. There's a ton of 260 Remington fans that will NEVER buy into the Creedmoor. I'm sure there's 270 WSM fans that won't either. They're pitching this round at the 6.5 Creedmoor fans... and if that's their baby... they'll surely love this one! Oh... btw... I do find the 6.8 Western desirable :) Got room in the gun cabinet for more I suppose 🙂

I did a comparison with the 165 grain 6.8, vs a 162 grain eldx 7 mag. And with both ising 26” barrels. The 6.8 has about 100 lb or energy advantage even out to 1000 yards, the 7 mag has a slight wind advantage after 700 yards, but before that 6.8 has the wind advantage. While its all very similar, this is with Winchester bullets. If hornady or federal come out with a eldx , terminal accent, or federal trophy tip in a high grain .277 caliber. This will be even deadlier!

Gotta admit I am interested in this rig, but not by reason of any of the discussions here, one way or the other...I suffer from gunnutitis. Symptoms include an uncontrollable urge to handload a new, lazer-like pet round, obsessive scouring everywhere to find the absolute lowest price on a new rifle, rationalizing the need for one more gun even though I've lost count of how many, and what I already have, and being in complete denial of whether owning four 6.5 caliber rifles in assorted configurations, is unnecessarily repetitive. But then, we all have our burdens to bear. [Laffin'😄]

Because it's a lot more complicated than that you put in a heavier bullet that would mean the bullet is much longer which would mean it would have to be buried way farther down into the casing which causes problems so they basically fixed it with this new round. They slightly shortened the short mag case so they could fit in a longer bullet by shortening the case the bullet doesn't have to be seated so deep into the case. If you reload it's easy to understand.

The 7mm rem mag shooting 155gr Federal Edge TLR outperforms this new 175gr 6.8 cartridge with a larger bore and less recoil. The 7mm 155gr projectile has better down range performance out past 1500 yards with over 100+ inches less drop and 10" less wind drift than the 6.8 western offered by browning. The down range energy was found to be the same at 1500 yards but the 7mm leading in the energy department out to that range. If people do a bit of ballistic comparisons they'll learn the new 6.8 is all marketing hype and false claims of performance. I won't be shuffling my guns in the safe over this one!

Nice cartridge for those with deep pockets. There is much to be liked about this new cartridge “in my opinion”, however Ouchie when you see $50+ per box of ammo. I suppose if you only are going to use this for hunting it wont hurt the wallet as bad? But if you are someone that loves to target shoot often, there are certainly better cheaper options out there. Nothing at all wrong with the .270 Win or 25-06. Not sure what 25-06 sells for or availability, but .270 Win can be had for easily $20 less per box and actually be found locally, and no slouch ballistically out to 500 yards.

@@nathan22outdoors8 Hello Nathan, I’m glad that you were able to locate 6.8 Western and at a good price. Unfortunately around here locally where I can buy say Winchester power point 130 grain .270 Win for 2$7-30 per box (tax not included) I haven’t see any 6.8 Western in stock ever. But thats great if you have a source at the prices you mention. I do love the fact that the 6.8 Western is like a step up to the great .270 Win with higher B.C. Bullets available and with a quicker twist barrel. than the 1 in 10 that my Mod 70 has in .270 Win. So yes, the Western 6.8 shows as very impressive ballistically. The only possible advantage, if it can be called that, is that this cartridge will fit in a short action. It is simply a .270 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge that has been shortened…what I term as a “designer cartridge” for the sole purpose of selling a gun. It actually is not much different ballistically than the .270 Winchester with correct handloads, ie heavy bullets with Accurate Reloader 26. But there are problems. Big box stores have hired people who are not knowledgeable behind the counter and are saying the .270 WSM will chamber in these rifles and the .270 Westerner cartridges can be fired in .270 WSM rifles…this creates a severe problem where the gun could easily explode in the users hands. Thanks, but I’ll stick to a cartridge of known performance and utility over just another “designer cartridge”.

Great new cartridge but Ron Spomer does a great video on comparison of the 6.8 vs 270 wsm, 6.5 creedmore and 6.5 PRC. They are all pretty identical out to 250 yards but once you hit 500 the 270 WSM out performs the 6.8 I appreciate the effort of Winchester and Browning coming out with a new cartridge but it seems they just wanted a cartridge in metric to appease the younger generation. @baraksinz
@baraksinz 3 жыл бұрын
Jim Peschke I understand Adam’s reasoning, even if 700 yards is a specific number. He’s simply advocating for hunting as it used to be rather than what it is turning into. Guys are starting to brag about how far away from the animal they were when they killed it rather than how close they were able to get before they pulled the trigger. This long range craze is fine for stationary, non living targets, but there’s just too many variables when it comes to shooting game at those ranges. We should want clean, ethical kills as hunters, not long-range bragging rights. Can you kill an elk at 700 yards? Sure! But there’s a much higher possibility of something going wrong at those longer ranges (i.e.- shooter error, wind drift, animal movement, unseen obstructions to the flight path of the bullet, etc). Much of hunting comes down to ethics, and the hunter’s ability to make a wise decision in the moment. Unfortunately, long range projectiles have given a false sense of confidence to too many hunters, causing poor decisions in the moment of truth. Yes, we can easily shoot at big game at 100’s of yards, but the goal should be to close the gap as much as possible before squeezing the trigger.
@jimpeschke3435
@jimpeschke3435 3 жыл бұрын
@@baraksinz You're preaching to the choir on this one. My LONGEST game shot was 55 yards. Trying to book an elk hunt, and I won't even talk to outfitters that can't get me within 200. I just don't like it when people redefine "hunting" to suit their particular prejudices. I've read people who declare all sorts of methods to be "non hunting". These include hunting over bait, hunting with a compound bow, hunting with a rifle, over a food plot, etc. This attitude divides hunters, which is exactly what the scumbags at HSUS want.
@baraksinz
@baraksinz 3 жыл бұрын
Jim Peschke I see where you’re coming from now. 👍🏻 I agree that there isn’t a set “standard” or “definition” for hunting, but I don’t like to see people ruin the sport for others by giving all hunters a bad name when they consistently make obviously unethical decisions in the field. Nobody is perfect, but this long range hunting with inferior calibers/bullets for those ranges (6.5 CM and others) is really starting to affect herds as more animals are wounded and never found.
