Thank you for your kind remarks. Think I needed a plastic bag over the speaker when I was riding it, maybe would have heard the engine better, rather than the wind noise. I love the bars, might fit clip ons this year to match my thunderbolt 👍

So nice to hear a proper enthusiast owners review. These are the only type of review you can properly take seriously. Not a big influencer given the bike by the manufacturer to say nice things about. You should get an action camera, you're a natural presenter. Thanks for taking the time to upload. Merry Christmas

Honest as ever and I’m glad you’re still enjoying the bike. The niggles and dangerous fuel leaks unfortunately were too much for me and it got sent back. BSA were extremely unhelpful and really don’t like honest fault reporting posts. I had the most lovely we don’t care email when they eventually replied. Stay safe and keep the films coming Merry Christmas 🎅🏼

The fuel leak is terrible and should be immediately sorted for safety reasons. I think BSA, not the dealers are not really interested what people say, they are letting this great bike and brand name down. , that's why I've raised these issues up on KZfaq, at least they have no control over it, not like on forums. The more we shout, the more people listen.👍

I was thinking of the de cat option, but just the down pipe was about £300 then you've got to buy a back box. So I just drilled holes in my baffle free and to be fair, when your riding the bike, it sounds better and louder than on my videos, it's quite loud in real life, thanks👍

We took one for a test ride a few months ago. The engine light came on whilst I was riding the bike. That's definitely not what you want to see whilst riding a brand new bike. In the end, it was the buzzy vibration at road speed revs which put us off plus it is a bit lacking in power compared to the bikes we're used to. Richard

I can’t see them bothering to sort it out unless you give them a lot of grief, it’s not fit for purpose, it’s dangerous if it’s cutting out. The engine light could be a charging issue that could leave you stranded somewhere with a flat battery.

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with your BSA . However you should get that engine light and "cutting out" issue sorted under warranty . I bought a Tiger 1200 last year and it had the "cutting out" issue and the damned thing was bloody dangerous ,cutting out half way across road intersections [ cross roads etc ] . I took it to the dealer I bought it from and it took them most of the day to sort it out , I wouldn't leave until it was fixed . Since then it's been trouble free . I doubt if your bike will fix itself . The new BSA company have just extended the warranty so there should be no problem .

BSA don't know what the problem is, just keep trying a load of trial and errors. I'll wait until they've found the real reason, it's now got 4 years warranty, so it could be a long wait.

here in Western Pennsylvania just north of Pittsburgh, I have been riding since 1968. I don’t ever remember seeing a BSA dealership… One of my classmates dad’s had a 650 BSA.. while working for the company, I just retired from back in the 90s, I was in the meter reading department for years. I always kept my eye out for orphan motorcycles just sitting in peoples garage is, in the backyard, in the basement, and if I couldn’t contact someone that knew about it at the site, I would leave a note usually, I would say on the note, I am interested in this machine, I would like to buy it while there’s still something left to save .. i’ve actually had a couple motorcycles, just given to me to get them out of the garage. Both of them were Yamaha XS 650 twins.. being an exmechanic at three different dealerships when I was in my 20s, I would get these machines running and if I like them, I would ride them for a while, but anything I ever had was always for sale if anyone would ask.. I only regret selling two of my machines that people asked about. My Honda, CX 500 that I put upgraded fork, springs, and KONI shocks, CB 400 F bars, and I was able to get a turtle shell backseat like on the BMW R100 RS, but it was actually made for the CX 500 Canadian models. Some guy asked me if I would sell it to him. I asked him what he would pay. He offered me three times what I had in it. If you don’t sell when someone makes you an offer like that, it’s the same as paying that much for it yourself I regret selling that one. And my 1979 moto guzzi SP 1000… i’ve been finding videos by British riders here on KZfaq like yourself. and I actually made my latest motorcycle purchase, because I was so influenced by the English writers that never have anything to say bad about the Honda nt700 .. The reviews I have seen on KZfaq about these Hondas, this particular model, made me buy one that was for sale here in Western Pennsylvania. It’s a 2010, only 7500 miles on it, original owner… it hasn’t been repainted or modified, so I bought it after the test ride. but something happened on my first long test ride when I brought the machine home and went over it. It broke down. It ended up being what I think was debris left in the tank from the fuel that evaporated because the machine sat for years. My adding fresh gas and riding the bike loose and all that crap and that plugged the fuel pump filter.. That’s the first time since the 1970s that I had to go and rescue one of my machines broke down. The first one was my Kawasaki A7SS 350 avenger… They had a nasty little habit of sheering off the rotary valves.. now that I think of it, that was around 50 years ago.. your BSA video has me interested. All of a sudden, there are two dealers that are selling triumphs.and Royal Enfield machines.. I wasn’t really thrilled with the Himalaya machine, or the two 650s royal Enfield has available here now. But that single you have, I like it. i’m gonna be going over the videos on KZfaq about this machine like a fly on fly paper to get feedback from owners like yourself.. watching this video you have you made with your phone, can I suggest a Camera? I don’t even know if they still make this camera model, but I bought a SENA. prism tube camera that comes with a bracket sort of like a microphone holder that the camera snaps into on the side of the helmet. It is literally like a 4 inch section of your handlebars, or a roll of United States nickel coins.. there is only one setting for this camera. On or off. You can turn it on or off with gloves on. my camera actually fell off one day at about 50 miles an hour. A buddy was riding behind me that day, and he saw something fall off my bike. So he stopped and picked it up. And he handed it to me at the next traffic light. It was my camera. He said it bounced about 5 feet in the air off of the asphalt. it had no bad effects on the camera. It got a couple scuffs on it, but that’s it. The body of the camera is metal. I use the included external microphone that came with the camera. It comes on the end of a. wire, and I mount the microphone wrapped in a foam, rubber wind sock inside my helmet in the ear pocket. The external microphone is only about the size of a peanut out of the shell. if you would like to see a sample of the types of video and the sound recorded with the external mic stuffed inside the earpocket of my helmet- here are just a couple of the videos I have on KZfaq using the Sena prism tube, helmet camera with the included external microphone (Kawasaki Z 400 BS from the book of common knowledge) and ( royal star venture Long way home) I’ll be checking your videos out, keeping an eye on your BSA reviews. Thanks.

Thank you for your very interesting story, And great advice on a decent camera, I will watch your recommended videos as I will definitely be making better quality videos in the future, think I've got the bug now. The only trouble with most BSA gold star reviews on you tube, is , they are not owner reviews, they have been given a free ride on the dealers bike to review it, so you might not get a full honest review, because, obviously, if they slag it off too much, the dealer won't sell many. Good luck in your search for a new bike though 👍

At a glance I like it, but it's an old Enfield frame with a Rotax engine, kerb weight 213kg, there are twins way lighter than that with more capacity, I'd prefer a sorted B33 really tough engine, some lads had one with trials tyres on the local common treated it like a speedway bike until the clutch started slipping so they rode it home and it sounded as sweet as when it arrived. In 1977

That radiator looks like such an after thought. Reminds me of a model T ford. BSA needs to redesign the radiator to contour of the frame. Triumph did such a better job of their radiator.
@awesomeappleby5923
@awesomeappleby5923 6 ай бұрын
Yes, it is a shame. Unfortunately, there is nothing other you can do with the radiator. Because it's a single cylinder, it needs it that size for new emissions. Whereas triumph are a twin, so can be cooled with a smaller oil rad . It's the unfortunate price to pay for a modern good looking single 650 cylinder nowadays. But to be honest, when you own one, the beauty of the overhaul bike makes you accept the rad for what it is, I've had Bonnie's. And the BSA as an owner is more pleasing to the eye in your shed 👍

Thanks,. Just measure from where your handle bars are clamped at the moment to where it would clear your clocks, and that's the size of bars you need. They are unbelievably very similar to ride and handle with the similar bars on, for saying they are made 50 years apart. And made by totally different people, but I suppose, this new gold star was designed in England by real British enthusiast. When the weather gets better, might take them both out on the same run to compare, but use a better camera next time.

Nice review, I think a lot of these new euro 5 bikes run too lean, I test rode a RE650 continental GT which kept cutting out at junctions when shutting the throttle. I like the bars, what make are they? I ride a 2007 Moto Guzzi and even that runs too lean and cuts out every now and then at junctions, I will eventually get it remapped. The video wasn't too bad considering it was just done on the phone, might benefit by moving it up a bit higher if possible.

Seems this cutting out is not only BSA's problem, it's quite annoying and embarrassing sometimes. The bars were just cheap ones off eBay. £35.90. but looks like seller ( MMCC-UK) is not on eBay anymore. I can give you dimensions of mine so you get the correct clearances if required. Definitely upgrading the camera for next time Thanks 👍

They are very much the same to ride having similar bars on , Just harder starting the thunderbolt, and dare not go too far, for fear of something falling off or breaking , which has happened a few times. So if I want a no worry ride, it's the new gold star, if I want an eventful and interesting ride, it's the thunderbolt , also, the thunderbolt get lots more attention from the public, even cars stop to take photos, And if you pull up anywhere, you've got not chance of getting away quickly. I think they think it's a DBD 34 gold star. 😁👍

Great real world review. The exhaust weld is ridiculous - to put all that effort into recreating an authentic looking 60’s bike and then spoiling it with such a crass detail beggars belief. The cutting out is down right dangerous and that needs fixing. I think current emission standards are pushing the abilities of some manufacturers to produce suitable mapping. The headlight cracking happened on TEC’s own development bike so it is an issue- good luck with yours. Anyway keep posting and let’s see how you get on with it over time - ride safe.

I suppose, the dealers won't know how many will do it yet, because when it happened last march, it was when it was cold, and there wasn't many sold, But now, there hundreds sold, so , only in the coming months will we know if it's a bigger problem than everyone thinks. Enfield have made a better job with their 650 but they all suffer from being way to heavy, example the new Enfield 650 shotgun weighs 240kg! I built and rebuilt a ´57 B33, and I've ridden a Gold Star. This may be a fine machine but if you call it something it is clearly not, in my book you´ve made a fake. It bears only superficial resemblance to a Goldie if you don´t know much about them - if you do, it's a travesty which, if it had an honest identity, would stand or fall on its own merit. If you are upping the spec to discs, (I know, drum brakes are expensive to make) then why stick with spokes, tubes and puncture outfits? Those who enjoy riding this bike would find a real Goldie, with its close ratio gearbox, a very difficult and demanding ride, and dealing with a set of points or a carburettor would not go well by the roadside. Your warning lights can be operated via Bluetooth if fitted, your dealer knows where you are, your mileage, and can encourage you to visit by flashing all your warning lights at once. It happened to my Honda until I tinfoiled the Bluetooth internals. He can probably cut the ignition if you are on HP and fail on a payment. No wonder you ride the real BSA.

@@awesomeappleby5923 Royal Enfield have been making Motorcycles continuously since 1901 This so called "New" BSA 650 is a 25 year old rotax engine, Dead end engine design, Unlike the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Which was designed and built from the ground up, Brand new design, and Royal Enfield's are out selling Triumphs world wide, These BSAs are harder to owner service, A lot more niggles as you put it, And they are just not as good, and they are more money on the road to buy,.

i was just about to buy one to join my much loved "continental gt" which has now done 15,000 trouble free miles but im not impressed with those niggles as the process of bringing a new model to market is rightly in depth and long term ,as it should ; but worse is the lack of address to a widely known issue ! ... it may be noted that this was in my mind is a more honest review as there are a lot of reviewers who say nil about known issues and only sing its praises ,i have seen this with a number of reviews on various products so "buyer beware" when using these reviews on a face value.

Thank you for your kind words. You are correct, My honest review is because I have owned my BSA now for over a year, whereas, most other reviewers are only saying what the dealer who lent it to them , wants them to say. They are not going to call a bike for it's faults , or the dealer won't give them another to review. Please don't let my review put you off, it's only a small percent if bike with problems, which you do get with all brands, I've had 2 interceptor, which both had small problems. BSA have now addressed the issues that we have been highlighting, and now they are giving us a free health check including free oil and filter service 👍 So things are getting better. In my opinion, it's far better than my 2 interceptors and 2 bonneville's. Good luck in whatever you finally choose as a second bike . I still fully recommend this gold star ⭐ 👍
