New Caledonia unrest: French leader travelling to overseas territory

French President Emmanuel Macron has just arrived in New Caledonia to try to calm the situation after days of violent protests. Demonstrators in the French overseas territory are angry after the Parliament in Paris approved changes to their voting system. Six people including two police officers were killed in the recent unrest.

Once the land belonged to indigenous people, then looters came from Europe, in this case, France. Next, the people of the land do not own the land. They just exist as "indigenous minority" group. There is no excuse to continue the subjugation and exploitation of the Kanak people, which is also in violation of the UN Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and People. Kanaks voted 100 % for independence, the fact that the French colonizers want to continue the exploitation is completely irrelevant to the rights of the Kanak people according to international law and UN Charter. As Nelson Mandela said “only through hardship, sacrifice and militant action can freedom be won” and the Kanak people deserve freedom.
