I headed out with my regular canoe buddy Andy Baxter to a Crown Land lake not far from my home on the Kawartha Highlands, Ontario. Andy owns a ma and pop outdoor gear company and I love helping him out to showcase his latest idea. This time it's some add ons to his Tripper and Expedition canoe packs. Check it out. Great to see both of you out and about! Looks like a stellar bag Andy - I bought all my barrels and barrel bags from Recreational Barrel works and love them, but will definitely consider this bag for future trips. Great addition with that packliner as well Stay safe and keep your paddles wet!

Bought one those packs (red) from Canada Outdoor Equipment Co. for our spring trip to Little Trout Lake, Algonquin. That the capacity is astonishing. Super handy.

I know this may be strange place to leave this comment Kevin but I am just finishing up your book The Meanest Link on that adventure with Andy and it is so honest and good. I also started to listen to the Paper Trails audiobook on your recommendation and wow can Mr MacGregor write! You said in your book about some schools banning canoe trips and you pointed out Durham being one. My son who graduates grade 12 this year in Ajax has taken a class called Outdoor Education for the last three years and every year among other things they have done canoe trips in Algonquin and some of his best memories are from this course. It is a course I have to pay almost $400 for to cover the trips so it is out of reach for many kids who could benefit by a class like this but maybe the Board understands the value of outdoor education a bit more from when you wrote your book or we can hope they do.

Hello. Thanks for the note. It seems each school is different, and the principle/admin. Some are shutting them down and others are not. But they are definitely all making it more difficult for the instructors. You son is lucky.

Damn, you two! I just bought a new canoe pack last season and now I see these great packs! Oh well I'm pretty good at destroying my gear so I'll have to upgrade soon to one of these packs!

Canadian style canoe trips looks awesome. The problem in my areas would be that the portages are all about twenty miles and involve climbing up and down a mountain or two.

I used to go canoe tripping, but got a shoulder injury during a storm on Lake Opeongo, so I can't really paddle anymore other than of flat calm. Which doesn't happen often. So I switched to backpacking. I carry a 40L pack, so seeing these monsters that are over 100L is just mind-boggling to me! I mean, how much whisky are you taking out with you? 😂😉 what do stuff in those packs? I could fit all my gear AND my dog and still have space for a couple of bottles 🤣

Curious - Do you know roughly what the weight of the pack dry versus water logged?

Good question. My pack weighs 1.4 kg/ 3.1 lbs dry. The material used doesn't seem to soak up a lot of water, so I don't see a big difference but it would add to it I believe.

@@TheHappyCamper y’a I figured that was the answer - it seems like it would get wet and add a tad of weight but it does look like it wouldn’t hold water and add 20lbs… definitely going to consider adding to my gear! Thanks for sharing all your great content! Look forward to seeing some trips! I was in Algonquin a few weekends and this week I will be doing 4 nights near Mattawa on highway 533.. cheers
