Here’s our (Mrs Local’s!) new car - a Toyota GR Yaris Circuit Pack.
It should be obvious from this video, but first impressions are excellent from this little car - I’m really looking forward to getting to know it better over a few more miles!

As you recommended it so highly, I decided to buy one. Found a 22, 72 reg GR Circuit Pack with 33 miles only from new. Picking it up tomorrow. Even the insurance cost was reasonable but, then, I am an IAM member.

Great car. Owned mine since April 2021 (Australia). I only use for track days and driving days with my mates, all of who are in much more exotic machinery (911's, McLaren's, Lambo's, RS3's, AMG's etc). When I first had it, the car was scoffed at by them. Now they scratch their heads. One of my mates who owns a 992 GT3RS and a GT3 touring was so impressed with the Yaris he bought one of his own. Got two speeding tickets the first day he owned it and put 300 miles on it. Now thinks it's the best car he's ever had. I've added a few mods to mine (Camber bolts, String theory springs, Alcantara wheel and shifter knob, Eventuri intake, HKS Super Turbo exhaust, mild remap, braided brake lines, racing fluid, removed the back seat and imported a Recaro seat from the GRMN Yaris in Japan). The car is an absolute weapon and I've yet to find another car that can stay with it on a country B road. Just a joy to drive and to own.

Nice, I owned a gen 1 BRZ for about 4 years and was a fantastic car through the hills, even kept up to a flabbergasted late model GT3 911 in it. Ended up selling due to the lack of power/torque. Hoping to pick up a GRY in the next year hopefully. Is yours the Rallye version?
@darrenprior6339

@@JasonISF Yeah Rallye. Tried the 'Povo' Pack and came away underwhelmed.
@JasonISF
@JasonISF 3 ай бұрын
@@darrenprior6339 cool, that's the one I'd opt for too. The BRZ had a torsen rear, which was the best feature of the car IMO. Some people say you only would notice the difference between the pov pack and Rallye, when pushing hard on the track, but I think it's BS.

@@JasonISF Yeah..Great cars, the BRZ/GR86. .I almost cancelled my Yaris order because my first test drive was in the Povo pack and found it boring. But I stuck with it only because all the motor journos were raving about the Rallye (Or Circuit Pack in Europe). It certainly understeers a lot less than the Povo that's for sure. Becomes more impressive the harder you drive it.
@JasonISF
@JasonISF 3 ай бұрын
@@darrenprior6339 I think one of the biggest let downs of the Povo was the crap oem Dunlops it came with. You should also check out a front anti lift kit. Those Motive Video guys said it makes a huge difference in the front end too, along with the camber bolts.

It was eventually homologated for the WRC2 class, so there is in fact a WRC rally car made out of this, just not in the WRC1 class :)

Congratulations on the new car. Hope you have many happy miles ahead. Had the pleasure of a gr Yaris for a few days when they were first released, absolute riot on the right roads. Grips, stops and accelerates like a little rally car. I consumed two tanks of fuel in 3 evenings spirited use, very enjoyable to make progress and in your hands will be appreciated.

Great choice, ive had my Convenience Pack since late 21. Really really awesome machine. I dont hammer it, still on the same Dunlop tyres when i bought it, looking forward to putting on some decent rubber. I really appreciate the Convenience pack extras, quite beneficial for a daily machine. Look forward to seeing more videos.

Great little car, good to hear you appreciate its breadth of ability! Had mine for two years and about 23k miles and it never fails to impress and amuse. Done track days, tip runs, Alpine road trips, commuting, autobahn storming etc. and it just laps it all up. I've never had a car elicit such a positive response! Lots of thumbs up, smiles and waves just driving around and people regularly go out of their way to come and talk to me about it. The fake noise can be switched off btw, makes the car much more pleasant in day to day use.

Yes, definitely a voice-over said with a smile! A good small car can be even more fun to drive than a powerful larger car, so I totally get that. Loved the gearbox on my old Toyota Celica too: I reckon the Japanese make great boxes. Enjoy 👍

Good choice on your new purchase and thank you for sharing your in-depth review !! For over 15 months of searching, I got lucky to have acquired a GRMN Yaris in Japan last month, after visiting all dealers in different places of the country that came with reasonable offers (i.e. low milage, no mods, zero track-use, and only with a reasonable premium). I could in anytime compare it with my Porsche GT4s (both generations, M/T of course) in terms of enjoyment.

I’ve watched a lot of reviews about this car to the buildup to buying one. I’ve had mine about 3 weeks now and can totally agree with everything you have said! Really good review, Infact probably the best one yet! Track mode is magical when you really push it on corners and so much fun on roundabouts Subbed 👍

Got the track edition with the torsen diffs? Powerful enough or needs a tune/more boost? Been trying to get a test drive one for years now, but no luck with the dealers in my city (Australia).

Great new purchase and as an owner myself I would urge you to get your dealer to turn off the piped engine sound you will enjoy the natural sound far better also while talking of exhaust whilst quiet it is a very light system and efficient too

5:50 Toyota did make a rally car out of this one but just this year, using the body and engine. It's the Rally2 and it has already won rallies, in Rally Sweden there were 4 of them in the top 10, that is overall incl Rally1 cars! There is also the italian rally cup car that is much closer again to the stock car, at first with only 4 months development it was 7s/km off the pace of a rally2 (still very good) and now 3 years on it's only 2,5s off the rally2 pace on tarmac. Love mine for fun. Thanks Reg for teaching me to become a good and safe driver (PH days), now with this car it's full circle :)

I've become a full on enthusiast owner of mk1 Yarises over the past 5 years. Currently drive a somewhat modified 2005 Yaris T Sport. I guarantee they used the exact same horn (21:38) as on the mk1, it sounds just like mine, and like a deliveroo moped 😂😂

I got mine same ish condition, but with ppf and custom exhaust. Definitely sounds much better!. Also, DO get rally flaps to protect the rear arches/sills. They will get chipped to f. (Lanoguard or underbody wax too if you want)

Enjoyed the review Reg of Mrs Local's new car! I suspect she might see an empty space on the drive when you are around :) My friend has one and I was impressed by the deployable performance and I say that as an ex-M2C owner like you with 400BHP, the GR is a perfect B road terrier! I'm assuming you are still with the M2C? I let mine go about 18 months ago and moved to an MX5 30th Anniversary Edition, as you say in this vlog a lovely combination of gear change, revabiliity and deployable performance all with the roof down. It has since just moved on to be replaced by an Alpine A110, now Reg find your local dealer and have a drive, I'll leave it at that :) Cheers for taking the time to film, edit and post what is clearly a little ball of fun! Cheers, Kevin

Owned mine for nearly two years, multiple trackdays and the Nurburgring. The car is epic and like you I owned Imprezas. I had 6 including a P1 and I’d take the GR over all of them. Hope your wife enjoys the car and you too.

I do not, and have not owned a Yaris of any sort. But I really like the concept of the GR. I understand there are still 4 brand new ones available from Toyota in NZ. According to a Toyota dealer I spoke with, they only bought in the circuit pack version here. I am not in any way trying to compare them, but I used to own a Polo GTI with the supercharged/turboed 1400cc motor. That was a quick car, especially on a twisty back road, but looked like a shopping car, so didn't attract the attention of Mr Plod unless you were doing something really silly. I get the impression the GR would be similar ie unassuming, but on a totally different level.

Hi Reg, could you share how do you secure the vertical camera stick at the rear seat please? AFAIK the ceiling is quite soft so would the extendable stick (if that's you're using) be fixed well enough?
