Hi, Luis. Thanks, I try to incorporate humor in every show as that's my nature. I don't know if starting a seperate vlog channel with my life and friends would do well. But my gang is a mixed bag of zaniness and some are more serious which could be entertaining. We'll see, but thanks man. ✌️😜

Hey, Watch Dog. Firstly, thanks for enjoying this episode. I understand the concern of a watch keeping its value, especially with what it can cost. However, if we really like and want it then we should go for it after a long consideration. Sometimes, a watch just screams at us. I bought a GP 1945 and GP's aren't known to hold their value but I really like it, no regrets. As far as the Santos goes, their resale prices aren't the worst as the Cartier brand carries cache. Lots of fakes, tho but that's only because they are so popular. I would not have lost money on my Roadster if I still had it today. No personal experience with Santos other than what I see online with the going prices, I'd like to try, tho. ✌️😁

Cartier is a great watch company that make beautiful watches like the Cartier Pasha, Roadster, Tortue, Tank, Tank Americaine, Santos, Crash. Cartier watches have history, the Cartier Pasha was design for the Pasha of Marrakesh nickname the Lion of the Atlas who wanted a watch that he can wore when swimming in the pool. The Pasha of Marrakesh was the ruler of the city of Marrakesh in Morocco during the French colonial era, the Pasha was an handsome Moorish man that wore a hooded white robe. The Cartier Santos Dumont was designed for the Brazilian Santos Dumont who co invented the modern airplane at the same time the Wright brothers invented their plane. I like the design of the Cartier Pasha, it is one of the most beautiful watch ever created.I also like the Roadster a very male tough watch.

Hi Rich. My wife has a Tank and a small Santos. So, in my house, Cartier is for women despite the brand's legitimate history as a man's watch. However, I would not turn up my nose at the large Santos or even the medium Santos (on a bracelet). On a side note, Truman Capote famously wore a Tank for most of his life. Arguably, not the manliest of men was Truman; although I'm pretty sure he liked men -- really liked men. Ironically, in the context of this video, Capote wrote "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Hi, Neil. Cartier's large Santos is beautiful. I am aware that Capote wrote Breakfast at Tiffany's but only learned about his wearing the Tank while writing. ✍️ You also know your history, Neil. 👌😁

Hi Rich, nice one. The Santos is nice and was aware of the story behind it, yet I prefer the Tank. Few years ago outside a museum in Compiégne France there was a Renault tank on which the Cartier was based upon. The skeletized version wouldn't be my choice regarding the Santos but do like that they left the romans as a structure of the watch. What I like about the Tank is that by the time Art Nouveau was booming Art Deco took its baby steps into design. Am a big enthousiast of the era (1870-1914) historically, artistically and culturally. It was even the reason to go to Paris and have a drink in one of those grand café's Le Select Paris, where Hemingway later more or less wrote his first novel. The guy saying you need a Rolex even if you don't like the brand is a bit bold. I mean, does he also eat food he doesn't like since it is nutricious? To me it becomes a bit religious with all the dogmas envolved when somebody is saying something like that. Cheers Mike
@whatsonthewrist

Hey, Mike. No wonder you prefer France over England. Wearing a brand new watch and having coffee in a French cafe is on my bucket list. Nothing beats christening a new watch over coffee. Nothing, they just pair so perfectly. It's what I do here, but want to do it in other countries as well. France is one of them for sure. Mr. Margolis was the president of GP and other high-end brands. He knows his stuff and shared his opinion. He is hugely regarded in the industry, no question. 👌😁☕️

My wife has four these Cartier - all different shapes. She goes for the looks - never bothered about the mechanism. I tested the 4 watches for accuracy - all deviates 20-30 sec/day, the same one would get from a 180 dollars Seiko SKX. What a ripped-off.
@canonyeo4286
@canonyeo4286 6 жыл бұрын
Here is Seiko for comparison. I tested again all my Seiko watches with the 6Rxx caliber, 27 altogether. The test is to see how many passes the Grand Seiko's accuracy of +1 to +5 second a day when in use (my standard). The watches are placed face-up (the natural position when put away during the night). 12 out of the 27 passed the test. Another 12 are within +/- 10 sec per day. GS/ Seiko watches are generally more accurate when placed on the 6th position ( 6'0 clock). When placed in this position, another 6 more passed the test). Only 3 exceeded 10 sec/day. Only 2 out of the 27 register negative time. Amazing! Most of those with GS accuracy are those made in 2017/8, which make me to believe that Seiko may have their upgraded main-spring and hair spring in these watches.

@canonyeo4286
@canonyeo4286 6 жыл бұрын
I think my wife bought them less than 10 years ago. Perhaps, they are ETA then. Now, we see the Swiss brands start to have so called 'in-house' movements, but, basically they are just sharing amount themselves, being owned by the few big corp. As i mentioned earlier, the cosc accuracy of +6/-4 are in 5 static positions and they do not specifically qualify themselves when in used, like in GS, or Seiko which are always understated. For me, this chronometer thing is just a big hype, and way over-priced.

As of today, the Panerai 1587 sits a top. It is 42mm and has two of my favorite functions: power reserve indicator and a GMT on a sharp guiloche dial. This recently took over the Zenith El Primero chronograph, which was tied with Parmigiani. Can you believe that? I spent time narrowing down my list to a chronograph, those two brands, and now Panerai swooped in. I would say the Santos is on my top 10 list. 👌😜

whatsonthewrist I to had Panerai on my short list my issue is I'm looking at used . An it's hard to find a sweet deal on even a older one. With all the fake and homage versions out there you would think the price would go down . What's a fair percentage to ask off from a ad
@whatsonthewrist
@whatsonthewrist 6 жыл бұрын
When I bought both my Panerai's back in the day, I got a big fat zero discount. Today, I've heard some get the standard 15% with 20% not as common but it has been done. I've only heard 1 person get 25%, maybe 6 months ago. I know it is hard to trust an honest source. I've also seen some on Gilt and even Leffot shoes which now sells pre-owned watches and yes shoes, to boot (pun intended). The problem with these sites is not knowing specifically what parts have been changed out. We risk a Franken. If where you live, you can't find a good source, then you might have to buy from an AD, discounts are now given.

Some of the parties I have been to there might have been a prize to pay for a wise ass remark. Do you remember when there was a lot of bogus Tanks out there, much like fake Rolexes today. Hi, JP. Funny reference to boring parties! Lots of fakes, indeed, for Cartier (still) and of course Rolex. They're sooo good these days. I remember walking the streets in NY and seeing fakes for $25.
