My neighbour sublet his flat for many, many years to many, many different 'tenants'. The housing association did feck all as he would always turn up on their visits, stay for a couple of hours and then bugger off. Not enough evidence apparently. I made formal complaints and they eventually took it to panel. They rejected all of my evidence and threw the case out so I took it to the Ombudsmen and won. I was awarded compensation, but most importantly an apology. My daughter and I were subjected to harassment, gangs, drugs, noise etc etc. He now has to live there under certain conditions and life is better. Don't stand for it people. Reach out for support from outside agencies. Don't let them bully you. I am now having issues due to repairs, so I tweet on the page of my landlord and miracles do happen. Especially when you attach photographs and name and shame them. The CEO's of these associations get paid the big money and are given titles etc, but they don't actually care about the working class who have to put up with so much shite and we all generally work so bloody hard. It is sickening.

Good on you. I agree now we have the ability to collect evidence and use social media we have much more power. The Thatcher 'flog off the council stock' policy was so very wrong. The council homes should have remained for those in need and not for the greed of many of Thatchers colleagues and friends, who benefited financially and left the poorer working classes with shabby private rented homes and we know who the landlords of these properties were and still are, in some cases. They are just kids when they're left to fend for themselves, it must be completely overwhelming for them. They are the ones who are helpless and really need help. It makes my blood boil to see this fraud! Having said that, councils need to be wary of the 'I've just had a fallout with my family...no place to go' story. That's often a ruse to get a permanent place, give them a hostel place until th situation is resolved.

Woaaa, what? No, there are genuine people who become homeless because their family keep them out. I was one example. I was pregnant, 18 and even though I was married, my parents kicked me out because my ex was abusive and did not have the right bed documentations. Oh, yes, I was in full time education, working and had to leave education to claim Jobseeker’s Allowance because agencies stopped given me work because their contractors did not want any pregnant woman sent to their care homes to work. Guess what? I was in a hotel for over 4 months, with no cooker and ended up having premature baby. Hotels are far much more expensive and cost the council more than having a small flat/house. So please stop with the misinformation. There are honest, genuine and hard working people out there and I am one of them.

Yes. There are so many unfair practices in play in other places in the world too. I keep grumbling about those who are married and getting extras because of it. I've been single for many years now and I am being punished because I choose to live alone now. Yearly taxes are less for those who have a big family. Two can live at the same cost as one in a home with most utilities; we pay a yearly set fee for water use, so I pay the same as a family of 8. The same goes for trash pickup. I have one tiny bag every two weeks and others have overflowing garbage every week to get picked up. Also for heating and electrical because one uses nearly the same amount as the family of 8. Things won't change so I guess we have to try to ignore the fact that we are not getting everything handed to us and that we are paying for the irresponsible habits of others. It isn't a wonder why so many others choose the easy way out when our governments encourage that behavior by throwing money at them. No incentives to do the right thing.

They need to stop paying cash to client and instead vet and pay directly to the landlords. Give bulk foods to meet nutritional needs and help pay utilities directly. Stop giving people cash. There will be a lot more people wanting to get a job if you do that.
