I love the ideas of these spells! Pulling a fortress out of the ground, taking dead land and creating a grove, turning a house into God’s (or your god’s) house, each with their own defenses. I know that’s probably not the flavor of any of them, but it’s how I imagine it. And they’re awesome!

These spells make the book worth it all on there own. I have always wanted more summoning spells

Super pumped for this book! The spells in the PHB are great, but it will be good for players to have other options. Also really cool opportunity for NPCs to give the PCs access to older spells that they may not be familiar with.

I gave my group access to that unearthed arcana low level spell list. They ALL decided to take the ceremony spell, and have been using it in downtime to earn a little extra coin. They have been very interesting and have worked really well for our campaign.

These actually sound quite nice. I'd like it even more if we got some spells like Plow Field, Ease Pain, Dictate, or some other stuff that's not really useful to adventurers, but of immense value in worldbuilding.

Not sure I agree with the Homunculus spell having a high cost. While you could use it as a scry spell of infinite duration, realistically you wouldn't use it that way. Homunculus' aren't invisible, aren't particularly stealthy, and stand out so they're likely to be spotted. Worse, they are easily killed with no defense mechanisms. So the optimal use, from what I can see, would be long range recon. Send out the homunculus to watch someone, use them to get a visual on the person and through their eyes you cast the scrying spell to listen in on the conversation, while getting yourself the -2 to their save modifier. That sounds strong, until you realise you can do the exact same thing with a regular familiar, the only difference being infinite range on this. However even that aspect of it is inferior to a Voice of the Chain Master Warlock. They also have infinite range on their familiar, can communicate and see through their eyes. However they can also cast through a familiar, and pact of the chain can get better familiars with spells and invisibility, which makes them far superior to a homunculus. The only potential advantage a homunculus has is being able to knock people out, but to do that they need someone to get a 5 or less on a dc 10 saving throw, which no one of real importance is going to fail that badly. Seems wrong to me that a high level spell is weaker than something a level 3 warlock can possess.

They should’ve added a note that the four elements monk should get access to the four element cantrips. I know they get some of the effects already, but now it should just be the full suite. They need all they can get!

If Crown of Stars isn't on the warlock spell list, I'm going to be disappointed. Sounds like it would be perfect for a Celestial patron warlock.

I'm really glad all these things -- the spells, class options, items, etc -- are all in this one book rather than spread out over several. I've enjoyed the more concise nature of 5E and hope that it continues even as it expands with these options. The focus on campaign books primarily was absolutely the right move, and even as much as I am looking forward to Xanathar's Guide, I wouldn't mind a few more campaign books. The Feywild, for sure, needs an official campaign. And even a Dark Sun setting/campaign would be nice.

I can't wait!

I wish they had revised "ice knife" in XGE. Ice knife doesn't make any sense. If you *hit* someone with the knife itself they still have a chance to make a dex save against the explosion... The explosion coming out of the knife... Which is embedded *in* them...

Danse Macabre makes creating zombies almost worth it. Because +3 to hit base is pretty much useless by the time you'd be able to cast it (level 9). Even in the hands of a necromancer, this is far more preferable than animate dead for that simple fact.

I really wish that they would add some construct making / and also altering them rules.

Weird on the preview of wizard spells that got released we didn't see a 'Zephyr Strike'. There is 'Steel Wind Strike' but its a 5th level spell, which means Eldritch Knight couldn't learn it. Also, Shadow Blade is an illusion spell, making it a challenge for Eldritch Knight to learn that one too. I'm gonna laugh so hard if WotC made new spells stated specifically to help gish classes (and EK specifically, from this video) and Eldritch Knight can barely make use any of them.

I hope there are some cool bard spells!

If the summoning spells are the same as they were in UA then it's a real shame they're not available for Warlocks. The class that specifically makes deals with otherworldly entities really ought to be able to summon those entities

I really, *really* hope the Vow of Deceit becomes official for paladins. I've never had as much fun with a character as I did my tiefling Blackguard and her quest to cozy favor with Tiamat until she was powerful enough to overthrow and replace her in the pantheon.

Seriously there's even an undying pact but very few actually raising the dead spells. I know there's a low ammount of spell slots its still a disturbing absence. Even the Paladins make better necromancers, its embarasing.

Very cool, although the reasoning for having the homunculus spell so high level is a bit shaky IMO. It CAN be like an infinite scry spell, but it takes time for this creature to go where you want it to. Sure, you could scry on some character for weeks at a time, but it might take weeks for the creature to even get there. There is no instant, clutch element.

Why Ceremony(marriage) spell is limited to "A creature can benefit from this ceremony just once"? Sounds unnecessary conservative. Even Pope Francis said the remarried couples may receive communion if they have confessed their sins ( The Joy of Love, chapter 8, footnote 351). Or Gods of Multiverse frown at polygamy/serial monogamy more then Jehovah? What about traditionally polygamous FR cultures, like Drow or Orc? Would Lolth and Gruumsh allow for Ceremony (Marriage) effect to happen only once to the Matron of House Baenre and Obould Many-arrows?

I think the spell would sound better if it were call 'The Danse Macabre'.
