Gorgeous detailed loco and if I was to have a garden set up then this would be on my list. She runs smoothly and it handles speed well on the controller down to a crawl. Defiantly a nice purchase by you Sam and it looks great with a load of wagons behind it. For me it is back to playing catch up on the rest of your videos.

Absolutely beautiful. This review confirmed how awesome they are, so I'm definitely going to buy one after my birthday in just over a month. I got a dapol 14t tanker today, is awesome, and I'm currently sat making a Parkside ex-SNCF 16t mineral wagon kit. Also my kernow/djm photographic grey 1361 arrived today, and it looks fantastic. Was very jerky at low speed on my R965 controller, so I googled it and it seems to be a feedback controller, unusual for a 20 year old trainset controller, so I swapped it for my H&M duette, and the saddle tank runs superbly with the controller set to full wave high resistance.

Great review! I ordered one of these with a little trepidation after seeing this as I didn’t know how the model would fare on the long journey from England to Australia with that method of packaging. Thankfully it arrived today fully intact. It’s a great model and I do love the proper owners manual that comes with it. I’ve only seen that once before with a Bachman G Scale Climax I bought years ago. The issue of detail parts falling off seems to be a common one these days with the level of separately applied parts. I’ve had a few Australian HO scale models with bits rattling around in the bottom of the box. Easy enough to fix and only a slight annoyance as long as nothing is actually broken.

Hey Sam, that is an outstanding review of the Dapol O Gauge Great Western 14xx Auto Tank, despite some of the details had been broken off and you have to fix them back on, but it's still a magnificent machine. The running performance was ace. Now you have an O Gauge Great Western 14xx, you'll have to get an Auto Coach to go with it, as your 14xx is in British Railways Brunswick Green Livery with the Late Crest, I would suggest getting the Auto Coach in British Railways Crimson Livery to match it, like how the 14xx & Auto Coach looked back in the 1950's. Once again, an outstanding review on the Dapol O Gauge Great Western 14xx, keep up the good work mate. Yours kindly Jordan Shingler 10/10 & 5 Stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 😉

Hi Sam. Great video. I bought one of the class 14xx, as well. I bought some polyester ribbon and put a length of it around the plastic packaging that holds the loco. I left about 5 inches of extra ribbon on each side so I have enough to get a good grip and use that to lift the plastic packaging out of the box so I don't have to use my fingers to try and grasp it. It eliminates the chances of my fingers doing any damage to the loco.

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago (4800 in as-built livery with "GREAT WESTERN" fully spelled out on the tanks), so when I saw you finally had one I was thinking yeah, you're in for a treat, mate! My heart sank when I saw that leaf spring lying on the floor while you were unboxing her. Mine didn't have any issues with damaged parts, so I was disappointed to see that the packaging failed to protect yours. I agree though, that heavy plastic shell seemed like overkill. Mine didn't have any noticeable paintwork issues either, but it's unlined so I suppose there's less to go wrong there. Still, after those little faults, I was relieved to see that yours is as smooth and quiet and impressive a runner as mine is. I absolutely love this thing. I also have the Dapol O pannier, which has animated valve gear. That's a really cool feature, but it's very difficult to see the motion when the model is underway. The valve gear is more exposed on the 14xx, which would have made animated valve motion more impressive on this model, but the eccentrics for the valve gear would have to share an axle with the drive gear, and there probably isn't enough room for both. The pannier has the eccentrics on the second axle and the drive gear on the third, but of course the 14xx only has the two driven axles. What the 14xx valve gear lacks in movement, it makes up for by being more realistic in appearance though. One cool feature you missed is that the cab roof is removable, held on by magnets. That makes it much easier to admire the cab interior details, as well as to close the cab doors once they have been opened.
@SamsTrains
@SamsTrains 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Richard - glad to hear you got a good one! I'm all for overkill packaging, but ONLY if it does a good job protecting the models - otherwise it's just a bige waste, lol! Ooh yeah those Panniers look amazing!! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@rwjenkins
@rwjenkins 4 жыл бұрын
Sam'sTrains the pannier is an impressive model, the level of detail is right up there with the 14xx. Performance-wise, mine is a little noisier than the 14xx and not quite as smooth, but still a great engine for the money.

@@SamsTrains My pleasure :) The other story that always goes with the autotanks at Gloucester is the races they used to have with midland region expresses. There is a length of line where the old GWR Gloucester to Swindon (and Chalford) runs parallel to the old midland line between Gloucester and Bristol. The legend is that if the autotrain got to the piece of track the same time as a midlands express they would give the tank everything and at least hold their own or win against the midland black fives, patriots etc. Gloucester used to have an ex-GWR and an ex-Midland shed so there was quite a lot of "friendly" rivalry!!

Hey Sam, put some dcc sound into it. My grandpa had 2 atlas O scale locos and running on a loop around the garage with a few box cars. Adding sound will just take your railroad to a whole new dimension. You don’t need a big sorting yard with lots of cars. Branchline work is awsome with sound, especially if you can do it in a larger gauge. My favourite loco is my broadway Mikado in Great Northern (American) livery. I just run it with a few cars and a caboose, but ringing its bell and blowing its whistle as it come around is pretty awesome, all the fun I need! (Until I get a 4-4-0 Dcc/sound :) ).

Glad to see more O gauge, sorry to see the damage. Jennifer Kirk got one to, though she didn’t seem to have trouble. Perhaps you have to get used to the packaging. In any case, glad to see more of the O gauge layout.

you should make yourself a shunters hook or somthing to make coupling up to rolling stock easier what you do you get a thin rod of copper (or whatver bends verry easaly and somthing that is strong) and you bend it in a bit of an J shape i did the same thing for when i was playing with my grandfathers bigger model trains and it worked well
@SamsTrains

I am really looking forward to when (if) you review the O gauge 57xx. The functioning valve gear should be amazing. However, I’ve done some research and only the 57xx has the working valve gear, and not the 74xx or the 64xx. Unfortunately, Dapol have stopped making the first batch of 57xx’s, however there is another batch with new riveted tanks coming soon!

I hope one day, the British Gov. work together to re-build an E2. The first one the last ones were scrapped in 1963. I'd love to see them just bring back a small series of E2's. Cause here in the US, we already re-built and now have a track working Big Boy (UP 4-8-8-4) 4014.

Hi Sam. Was just wondering, will you ever do a trains around the world series where you display some trains from some of the largest countries (e.g from each individual country, a train that is most well know from it; like the mallard from Britain) , much like your reviews of american trains? Would be cool to see other designs from other countries. Great video as always!✌
