Wow... what a great memory to have! Would love to know more... like where it was and what you thought at the time. I think the world looks back at JD with a weird perspective - given what happened with Ian their music is frozen in time. It would be great to hear what it was like at the time...

@@SparkyGuitar I saw JD at ajanta in Derby it was a Bollywood picture house but they put bands on and removed a few front rows of seating. I was stood at front of stage between Ian and Hooky. Fantastic gig ! Ian was my hero ,totally mesmerized to watch and it was hookys bass playing that got me learning to play. First two songs I learnt was transmission and Lost Control.The year was 1980. £2.50 on the door entrance or £2.00 ticket. I know this so well as I have a copy of the original poster also 2 t-shirts one in black and yellow same as poster and one in black and white. The support bands were XL5 and Section 25 . This was around a month before Ian's passing. I was very saddened by this I was 21 at the time and it took a huge piece of what was and could of been from a music perspective. I can remember feeling empty at the time of Ian's death as I idolised the band but I knew in Ian's lyrics he was heading for a fall. They played live tracks of Closer which hadn't been released till around a month after but I knew he was on a mission. May God bless my Hero.

Interesting! I always match what was originally played... as I am playing on top of the original. If the guitar was originally in 442Hz then I would have copied that. If I was in 440Hz then that's because the original was. If I then tuned to 442 then it would clash against the original guitar in the track....

...one additional thought. This was recorded before I replaced the saddles on the Jazzmaster. They had corroded (after 60 years!) and couldn't move... which was impacting the intonation. It's much better sounding now!

It's never been an issue! I don't know why people change them.

@@SparkyGuitar I think people that really wail on the guitar have an issue with the stock bridge but more relaxed and refined players manage just fine !

I understand your point... though the definition of "cover" is not what you have above. It's "a new recording or performance of a song by an artist other than the original composer or performer(s)". Which this is. But the real answer is that it is the description consistently used on KZfaq for this kind of content. It makes it easier for people to find it... and certainly doesn't deceive anyone.

Metal was already a genre in 1979. Black Sabbath came out during 1970, I’m pretty sure.
