Hi Simon, great video as usual. I believe the top speed on the p400 with the 22”’ wheels of 130 is due to the fact that Land Rover only spec road tires not dual purpose tires. But with the 20’’ as I have on my d300 hardtop you can have the more off roady tires so they limit the speed to 119. So I think it’s a tyre thing rather than a wheel size thing that limits the allowable speed.
@L663
@L663 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that makes sense - but do Land Rover control the limiter - can you ask for it to be changed if you change your wheel/tyres ?

Hi Simon, i already missed your videos. Nice to hear something again. 👍🏻 I improvise the v8 look on my x-dynamic with blue painted brakes and some other small details, optically the only thing missing is the exhaust and the large pivi screen. I would be happy, if the conversion of the old pivi screen to the new 11.5'' screen is one of your next projects !? Greetings from Germany!

Hi-yes also the rear brakes. I did this a few weeks ago, at that time there were only photos of the V8 and I also thought, it was just a mistake by LR. Finally, the Defender X is also painted red on the front and back. It is a light blue and looks very well with my black Defender.

The V8 is actually better for off roading then the other engines JLE has said, its extra grunt can you pull you through the tough soft sand or muddy conditions so its the most capable defender they have but you would need to option it with the 20 inch rims and a/t tyres.

Great content great banter. Suspect vehicles. If only Land Rover could make these range toppers as reliable as Mercedes G Wagons they would be on to a huge winner. Can't help but think L/Rover should have put all the effort in these range toppers into general reliability. With rear seats up in the 90 there's hardly any room for a medium sized dog!! Excellent video - Nitra is actually the place where I met my wife (almost 30 years ago) and we have passed the factory several times on our journies to visit her parents in central Slovakia. By the way, you missed looking at the MPG of the V8. Actually I would love to know the real MPG of, say, the P400e (plug-in hybrid version) of a trip from JLR Gaydon to the factory in Nitra - a 2-day journey with not much opportunity to plug-in and recharge. Oh - and I wonder what the real cost of The Stig is now you have added all those accessories ? The winch certainly adds a good few thousand. I would guess at about £65k ? + Subscribed to new channel.

Them V8's! I've managed 30 mpg on a few occasions in my p300 on a run, as long as I don't go above 70 it's doable. Average after 10000 miles is 25 mpg., which isn't bad considering I carry loads of tools and materials in the back, sometimes over 300 kilos of gear. Changing oil at 7000 has helped I think.

Love the enthusiasm, Simon! 👍🏻 My (ex) Disco Sport was Carpathian Grey, so the colour's not new to JLR but your link to Nitra was interesting. Apart from the wheel size, JLR recommend a speed limit of 80mph if you've the roof rack or cross bars fitted, which I reckon would make the V8's top speed somewhat moot. Looking forward to your new channel and your review of the new Bowler Rally version in due course. 😉

It's a great video. My take on the 4 cylinder is that unless it has been over-engineered, that is a lot of vehicle for a 4 cylinder to pull and I wouldn't expect that engine to have the longevity people want it to have. I'm looking at the 110 but I am so far going to pass the 4 cylinder. Unless, of course anyone has positive info on the 4 cylinder. Good video and keep them coming.

Don't know why the V8 defender doesn't have active roll bars (ACE) this would give it amazing road manners and then even better offroad capabilities then a normal spec new defender. They had this system on the discovery 2 which still today will out perform any discovery 3, 4 and 5 in the corners. They made the range rover sport for performance so this has ACE and so does the full fat with the big V8 diesels and petrols. Land rover missed a trick not putting this ACE system on this V8 defender shame. I still have my D2 and the ACE system works wonders for such a big truck.

Silver fax you may be but still sharp and cunning - I have to agree with you - I just checked the parts catalogue for the new Defender and it is indeed just a standard anti roll bar and so you are correct - maybe i should design a detachable drop arm... something i wanted to do for the Freelander 2 off road project car.

Why do you talk about other energy sources for cars, there is already a technology for synthetic produced diesel or petrol produced without any oils. But nobody talks about that. There is a marked for Diesel or Petrol fuel engines, but made synthetically.

@@L663 I doubt whether there is any need to. Your legal maximum speed is always limited to the lower of any parameters, in this case the speed rating of the tyres rather than the speed actually achievable by the vehicle.

Don’t understand the point of a top heavy SUV with this kind of power and skates for tires. These things will never, ever need any of the off road tech in the Defender, and yet they will carry around all that extra heavy duty construction and weight for no reason. Stupidest car ever. And take those silly steps off your P300 and put on some proper sliders. It’s all outfitted for off-road but then you go and put in those mall cruiser steps. Come on guys.
