Management thought they could drip feed DLC in a historical game like they do with Warhammer, but that didn’t work out for them as they’ve had to release all the updates for free. Glad we’re getting a legit Bronze Age game now, and I was sold on the Dynasties post about the family trees. Looking forward to checking it out!

Some minor factions have "legendary" characters. All of the minor factions in the Aegean are lead by characters from Total War Troy, like Achilles and Odysseus.

In retrospect it does look like they were racing against time, likely needing the release cadence to justify the continued money sink into Hyenas. You can say, 'Oh Hyena's didn't take money from Warhammer/Pharoah' and yeah that's true, but it placed pressures on both games that would not have existed. Just this amorphous thing, whose sheer physical presence distorts the body of the company around it. You know. Like a tumor.

Super stoked for this update! Still pissed at whichever decision-maker forced TWP out before it was ready. This update is what vanilla should have always been. I’m excited, but it’s bittersweet. If this had been released in full from the start, we might have been able to have even more DLC/Campaign expansions down the line.

At 2:20 - To clarify: Western Anatolia and Greece were already represented in the campaign map, just hidden in the fog. With the "Toggle Fog of War" mod, you could clearly see Greece, the Aegean Islands and the west coast of Asia Minor. The east, on the other hand, was actually not much further developed.

Devs probably didn't have time in the first place to make a proper TW game,not just a saga.Lets be honest,CA probably thought they would get away with the pricing of this game,like they tried wih SOC. The game was pretty polished when it came out so it didn't seem rushed.Anyways,stoked for this update,will get back into it when it comes out. the map was not enlarged, though, it is not based on the old map, CA just makes a new and bigger map.

As a modder myself. The problem of campaign map (modding) isn't how big it is. You can make it pretty big. It's the amount of time. I can make a pretty huge map with Shogun 2 and it uses a similar system as all the Warscape engine related games (with here and there some additions). But the core is the same. The issue we have with Shogun 2 is that it's based on a 32bit engine. So it has it's limitations. But all the games beyond 3K and WH series, those are 64bit ones. So they got more VRAM and memory to use to render. Only your imagination limits you in the end. But i guess CA doesn't want to make to much effort in it for their profits. Lesser time = More profits = Lower Quality.

Was expecting to see a population and recruiting system, but it seems it won’t happen again…

It’s difficult talking about what is mentioned historically or not considering we do know for a fact that there are other pre greek scripts that we can’t decipher. Using something like a group of armed women to embody the ideal of the goddess of the hunt isn’t crazy. The timeframe for these games allows for a bit of creative input while managing to mostly stay on historical track. As a student of early Indo European anthropology, there is an entire history of war, gods, culture, and language buried under what he understand today. That grey area between the receding ice and our language families are still being uncovered

Pharaoh was first TW game I skipped on release. Got it during Summer Sale precisely for this Dynasties update. When it drops, will give it a try

CA should do a Ming Dynasty focused total war game, with the late game concurrent with Shogun 1/2 but with more factions and international politics. It is an era in East Asia with the perfect blend of gunpowder and traditional weapons, with a LARGE variety of units and cultures.

This update is going to get me to try the game now.

I don't believe they are making a from the ground new engine. I think they're working to take the warhammer codebase, and separate it into a general use engine, and a plugin defining game specific features, that they can swap out or modify for the next title.

I'm really wanting to Get Total War Pharaoh. I hope they expanded the Sound track to include new tracks for the other new Kingdoms and Cultures. :D

They probably initially hope to make a combined Mythos DLC but dropped the idea. Sans the drop of Amazons and similar stuff.

I'd still like to see an Israelite faction. If they're willing to put in a character based off of Goliath, i don't see why Joshua or David would be out of the question. Maybe modders can add them in if CA is worried about stepping on toes.

Sophia was given an impossible task, put out a full price game in a ridiculously short development window. Still afraid Sega might scapegoat them and shut the studio down.

No Amazons was expected as its fiction, ........... they are really a Scythian group ( non-Fiction ) with armies of men and women combined..........................Scythians should have been included with male units added

There's an arcady element to saga total wars that just puts me off. Troy had ridiculous jumping death animations and no matched combat either. It felt awkward and broke immersion for me. It's been over a decade since the tech was implemented and CA haven't iterated on historical combat in any meaningful way.. Attila had good combat for its time. I don't see any other improvements though

I imagne someone had an idea to do a big beautiful bronze age total war with a big map like warhammer, and some manager just did this abomination ...

What we want from an engine upgrade (and everyone asked for): 1) Fixed pathfinding + Proper realistic sieges. 2) 8 players simultaneous turns MP campaigns. What they bring (that no one asked for EVER): Movable campaign maps that can be expanded to the west 🤣

If Aegean has unique leaders, how about Mesopotamian?

Time will tell my friend. We have been fooled by marketing material before. I am actually worried about the combat side of things because Team Sofia always nails the campaign but the combat was too shallow and boring in both the old Pharaoh and also Troy.

I have 2 questions: Do you need troy on the same store to play the troy factions or what are the current infos? I got to instant gaming to look for pharaoh ans i saw that they have a total war star wars what will launch this year. Could this be possible?

you really over focus on that map and 0,0 coordinates, it doesn't matter when they made new map, also expanding over 0,0 wasn't never a hard limit, it just involved way more work cause they would have to alter coordinates everywhere else but was always possible

Meh - Amazons could have been part of a Scythia faction who were active at the end of the Bronze age.....I mean they are using semi-mythical or purely mythical characters etc . That and no Mythos option means no purchase for me.

CA released a small game that was half-finished for the price of a full game and expected to get away with it, when they didn't they then decided to finish the game and are now acting like it is planned dlc features. If you don't have the game, skip it. If you do have the game...continue to shit on it. And enjoy it in private if it is good.

I don't like the outpost mechanic in Pharaoh at all. Ultimately, they are mainly there to boost movement in the desert. If this mechanic isn't fundamentally changed, I'm happy to do play TW WH without it.

Pharaoh is so far past the point of being relevant. Anyone who was interested was turned off by the horrible launch, and it's going to either be impossible or a monumental task to win those people back. I just don't see CA putting the resources behind a failed product to try and win a few people over. The ship has sailed. This game is dead.
