We do know the reason. The East Anatolian subduction fault has been stuck far too long, around 200 years since the last Richter 7+, building up a huge amount of energy. The quakes are moving in a north-easterly direction up the fault line.

When a major earthquake happens, same epicenter produces many aftershocks. That’s very normal and expected. But all these earthquakes you heard are not aftershocks. They all have happened in different cities as seperate ones. This so weird and scary. As if pandora’s box opened and it triggered all the fault lines, so every part of the country shakes constantly. I’ve never seen anything like this. We have been through many earthquakes, but this is like a nightmare. I live in the west but I cant sleep properly for 2 weeks. Because we can have earthquakes too😢

We have awful devastating earthquake's yearly...now that media is able to comment on them more freely than ever before ..we are only just able to witness the destruction and heartache of those who are desperately succumbing to them.. There was one in China, in 1976 (Tangshen) killing 255,000 people 8 on the Richter scale.. and the tsunami that followed went on to cause as much as 655,000 deaths in total.. But it Is Definately more earthquakes than usual so you do have a point.. 🌹

No one knows the exact day when the End will come, not even Jesus. Only God Almighty !!! But we do know the season and we're in the season now.

Everybody knew there would be aftershocks this size. And it wasn't a 6 to 7, it was reported as 5.6, or 5.2 by USGS. A magnitude 5 quake is ONE THOUSANDTH the size of a mag 7 quake. Whoever Dutchsince is, he was wrong. Tbh it sounds a little insulting to the local people, who know perfectly well what the patterns are.

This is completely normal. Whenever there's a large quake you get lots of aftershocks that go on for weeks, months or years after the main quake.

Yes, it's normal... Turkey averages more than one large earthquake a year around magnitude 6 or above. The 1999 Izmit earthquake (7.6) killed more than 17000. There are hundreds of thousands of smaller quakes every year. It's about two centuries since the last earthquake measuring more than 7 on the Richter Scale hit the East Anatolian fault. This quake has been expected for a long time, and it's a single series - a double quake with thousands of related aftershocks as the slip-strike fault unzips over time. The aftershocks may go on for 9 or 12 months after a quake of this size.The local people know and understand the patterns, including my family in southern Turkey. This fault is not affected by fossil fuel extraction or war, but it is quite possibly affected by decades of drought, which have caused lack of lubrication of the fault so that the energy continues to build up. That delays the earthquake, so that when it does come, it's bigger. That's theoretical, not certain. The next fault to go in Turkey causing a major quake will be the North Anatolian Fault, and it will hit Istanbul. It's overdue. The quakes are travelling from east to west across the north of Turkey along the NAF, and the last one (Izmit) was only 87 miles from Istanbul. That was 24 years ago, and the longer it takes, the worse it will be. Millions live in fear of it, but there's nothing they can do.
