The Atlatl is an interesting weapon/tool. Used in the early Americas but also used in Australia (and still used today, in certain places by certain people, called (in the last 150 years or so) the Woomera) The big question, Is were these invented independently, or was it learned through trade and discussion with people who must've been able to travel across oceans. Supposedly, There are signs of major "tennis elbow" injuries on remains from around 40,000 years ago that indicate this tool has been in use for a very long time in Australia.

It’s more likely there was a common ancestor that invented similar tools and the populations just separated and developed what we call the atlatl independently using those earlier tools. We’re kind of naturally built to throw things, so it’s not that surprising that unrelated cultures develop similar things in pre-history. It’s not like the Native Americans and Aboriginals just sprung from the ground in their respective homelands.

(which after looking it up, seems to have been there around 50k years ago, just before the first signs of people in Australia. For some reason, When I visualised Australia it was much further away from anywhere else.
