Happening to everything. The dollar has shrunk due to printing a flood of Monopoly money dollars. It takes more dollars to buy real things like energy, real estate, manufactured products etc. One US dollar today is the equivalent of two cents back in the year 1900. People are amazed that you could once buy a brand new Model T Ford for only $500, but that was an extremely simple piece of machinery compared to a modern car and in today’s money it would have cost $25,000.

Yeah, really crazy being the can’t sell them now and it just going to get worse. Without government incentives (taxpayer dollars) the EV industry would have already imploded. The auto industry is still losing money on every vehicle.

So sad to see the US car makers are churning out these huge monsters, which is a hazard to the other drivers on the road and the environment. They totally negate the benefits of an EV, because the electrical power of moving a 5-ton mass is mostly generated by fossil fuel, which is not emission free.
@reb1225
@reb1225 2 ай бұрын
First, EV technology is a great supplement to safe driving and much safer than any ICE vehicle, so EVs are not more of a hazard than any other vehicle on the road. These “huge monsters” (as you refer) have advanced collision migration and braking systems which pointedly reduces the chance of a collision, but of course no vehicle will be 100% accident free, EV or otherwise. Next, EVs are not designed to be emissions free. Nothing that requires power to be build will ever be emissions free. Renewable energy may get close, but we'll get to that later. You do know, well at least I hope you do, that transportation emissions (sitting in traffic for hours with a running ICE vehicle) is the leading source of climate pollution. So, from a climate perspective, from an air pollution perspective, EVs are significantly cleaner that ICE vehicles and EVs have zero “tailpipe” emissions, so they are not immediately putting toxic emissions in the air and killing the ozone or poisoning people. As for fossil fuels, coal, crude oil, and natural gas are ALL fossil fuels and the US’ use of crude oil and natural gas are about even at 35% and 34%, respectively. Coal used to be 26% which is now down to 10% and followed by 8% nuclear power and Renewable energy (solar, wind) at about 13%. Renewable is climbing rapidly, it was about 6% just 8 years ago, and with newer homes being built with solar panels or solar roof shingles, office buildings solar windows, and government tax breaks for installation of solar panels, RE will greatly increase in the next 10 years. My point is, your scare tactic about EVs negating intended benefits is misguided. With the current number of registered EVs, it is estimated to be a reduction of 400 million tons of CO2 emissions, which is exactly what EVs were designed to do.

The point of EVs is zero “tailpipe” emissions, so EVs are not immediately putting toxic emissions in the air and killing the ozone or poisoning people. With the current number of registered EVs, it is estimated to be a reduction of 400 million tons of CO2 emissions, which is exactly what EVs were designed to do. And the cost benefit analysis of placing solar panel roofs on EVs has been studied extensively and the buyer return on investment is not worth the additional cost to the production of an already high-priced EV. So, manufactures get the point exactly, you are the one missing the point.

@@jonathansmith283 Dude, do your own research! I’ve been driving EVs for 5 years and researched this very issue extensively and found that while the notion of using solar panels on an EV roof to self-charge is certainly intriguing, but current solar EV technology just doesn’t offer a cost-to-efficiency ratio to justify the added expense. This has been stated by several EV manufacturers. Most stated EV roofs lack the surface area to generate enough solar power to recharge their batteries, parking in garages or in areas without enough sunlight, the solar material being vulnerable to potential damage from road debris or rock chips which would require stronger construction material such as titanium. With all that written, as solar panel technology improves, it may potentially play a significant role in powering EVs, to the point of the entire body of the EV fabricated from solar panels and storing that energy in its batteries and the EV running entirely on solar power. Oh yeah! I have solar panels on my home roof and wish for this type EV technology. Note that, Fisker, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz all either offer a solar roof option or are all working on the solar roof technology, but as of right now, it’s expensive and not feasible.

@@jonathansmith283 This information is everywhere if you want to be informed. But, for me, I’ve been driving EVs for 5 years and researched this very issue extensively and found that while the notion of using solar panels on an EV roof to self-charge is certainly intriguing, the current solar EV technology doesn’t offer a cost-to-efficiency ratio to justify the added expense because EV roofs lack the surface area to generate enough solar power to recharge their batteries. This has been stated by several EV manufacturers. Also, other concerns were parking in garages or in areas without enough sunlight, along with the solar material being vulnerable to potential damage from road debris or rock chips. So, EV manufactures are looking at stronger construction material such as titanium. With all that written, as solar panel technology improves, it may potentially play a significant role in powering EVs, to the point of the entire body of the EV is fabricated from solar panels and storing that energy in its batteries and the EV is running entirely on solar power. That would be awesome! I have solar panels on my home roof and do wish for this type EV technology. Note that, Fisker, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz all either offer a solar roof option which can get you only about 5 to 8 miles per day (2,000 miles a year) with a disclaimer about not parking in a garage or not in low light conditions. As mentioned, most EV manufacturers are all working on the solar EV roof technology, but as of right now, it’s expensive and not feasible for the ROI.

What is mind boggling is the fact that the electrical grid is 33% efficient. You have to burn three gallons of fuel to deliver 1 gallons worth of energy on site. A gas powered car is 30+% efficient. A modern gas engine is far less polluting than a coal or oil power plant. Where is the upside?

no yearly oil/filter changes. No transmission to worry about once the warranty is done on a ICE vehicle. No muffler either or coolant to think about. I'd say that most of not all EV owners will be charging at home. Do errands all day and get home and plug in and ready to go the next morning. And not groan when the price of gas goes up again. When in rush hour traffic you're not idling. IN the cooler months and into winter you pretty much get instant heat as there is no engine/coolant to warm up. Just get in and pretty much go.

You must come to understand that at its current stage, EVs are for people with money to waste/burn as EVs go through its development phase, which will eventually allow less fortunate people, such as yourself, to afford them. My entire family drives EVs, being doing so for the past 5 years. We charge at home, have solar panels on the roof and get free credits from the power company. We don’t travel more than about 40 miles from home by car, we are flight people, not road trip people, and the only routine maintenance cost we’ve had over the past 5 years is topping off coolant, washer fluid and a seat belt replacement on my teenage son’s M3. In my neighborhood, there’s an EV in almost every garage and solar panels on almost every roof, so we are considered research and development people. I also purchased the first iPhone for $600 I believe in 2006 or 2007, and the first flat screen back in 2001 for almost $9,000! Yes, people like me pay for research and development so the price and technology will eventually be affordable for you. So, You’re Welcome!
