My new Everlast 212 was DOA. Everlast wants me to test a few things... We will see if it is something simple.

We’ll see. Usually a company will take your credit card number, send you a new machine and only bill you if the old one doesn’t arrive after some time. I would send it as a registered receipt so that they have to sign for it so they can’t say it never came.

Get an RTA and Send it back. The more you touch, the more it will be shaped by them as something you did. I am very experienced at troubleshooting, but that is the responsibility of EVERLAST. Listen to Don

You are right Sir. I will watch it to the end. My Dad and I bought a cheap air hammer at a local discount auto parts store. It worked for less than a minute, then it stopped hammering, and only hissed air. I wanted to return it, but my Dad told me if I did, I would have learned nothing. He took it apart and discovered that a machined relief was omitted. He machined the part, and we used it almost daily for the next 20 years.@@10swatkins

I got the PowerTIG 200DV a year ago; it's been solid since day one. My only gripe is the position of the gas inlet port; it's dead-center in back, so the bottle will pinch the hose. I did go to Harbor Freight & bought the MIGMAX 215 at the same time; it's still going strong.

Don. My brother was a chief engineer at several recording studios. Motown then years later larrabee. He had a clients console laying on its back with all the 22 gauge solid copper interconnect cables cut out. Fix one 3 more break. The owner comes in and almost faints when he sees every wire cut out of this console. I worked perfect after new stranded wires and a lot of fresh caps.

18 years ago I bought a Hypertherm GT1000 plasma cutter and before the warranty was out the thing started smoking while I was using it one day. I took it to my dealer and they sent it to warranty repair. A few weeks later I got it back and it has worked well ever since. They told me they got a bad batch of IGBT modules from China. I still use it today. I bought a rotary welding table 2 years ago and when I plugged it in it would not turn. I took the cover off the control box and a connector came off the power board, I plugged it in and it worked well. I bought an Everlast tig, stick unit with a cooler 6 years ago and it works well today.

I'd like to see a schematic for that; I'll bet it has more than one PTC polyfuse on one or more of those boards. They are designed to be self-resetting, but sometimes they're a crib death in new devices. When they destructively pop (they blow out the side), certain functions fail.

Years ago I had a Peavey mixer board that stopped making any sound. I called Peavey and they set me up with one of their engineers. He ask me if I was comfortable with opening up the Mixer. I said yes. So he told me how to open it up and call him back when I had it open. So maybe 20 minutes later I had it open and called him back. He told me how to check some of the parts. After several calls and different checks I made on parts everything I had checked was reading normal and good. The engineer said OK I think there is only one thing it can be. He said I think you have an output jack that has a cold solder joint. He said take the Jacks out of the back of the cabinet, He said I bet that is your cold joint. I took the nuts off the output jacks and one of them would just spin on the output wire it was supposed to be soldered to. I have had several pieces of Peavey equipment over the years. They have been good to work with.

hi I have a neverlast (Everlast) tig welder that is a tig, stick and plasma it was outside of the warranty by a month. It had been used a only several times for quick field repair work less than one hour run time total. It is a 50 amp plasma. I tested it before taking it on a field job and the plasma burned up with cloud of electrical smoke and the sound of dying squirrels. I called Neverlast and they told me that if I bought another new welder they would fix the broken one for for 500 dollars. I bought the new welder for about 2000 dollars and sent the burned out one back in the same box as the new one came in to repair. I had to pay freight. They made a big deal about only send the welder back in original packing. I asked for a box and they told me that they did not have any boxes which are required to return to the welder for repair. After several months it came back in a different box that was not intended for the welder and it was not packed properly. They changed the circuit board with a different used board. I am not sure if is even the same welder.The rear bezel was shattered and from not being packed properly. The welder bezel in the rear was covered with automotive primer in the air inlet. We do not paint here in our shop. The fan had a cracked fan blade and it flew off when I powered up after it came back from repair. When I tested it and the plasma worked but the tig would not start with high frequency. The high frequency worked when I returned it for a dead plasma. They then wanted me to send it back at my expense so they could remove the circuit board and return it with no circuit board. HMM???? I complained loudly and sent them an email saying I was going to sue for breach of contract. They then refunded the 500 dollars but not the return freight I paid to repair it and have it returned to me. They then said they were going to cancel the warranty on the new welder If I did not return the welder that they did not fix so they could take the circuit board out of it.. I had my lawyer send them a letter saying if they would do that we would sue them for breach of agreement. They then said they would not cancel the warranty. They then told me that they would not repair the welder I sent to have repaired and would not return the original circuit board. The new plasma torch for the new welder did not work as there were no springs behind the contacts in the torch head. They then sent me a plasma torch with no contacts and no springs. I complained again that the torch was not complete and it did not have the contacts or springs. The sales manger sent the repair parts division an email which included an email to me that indicated that the torch was not complete and I was a PIA. Hmm?? I sent the guy an email to explain to me what a PIA customer was?????? In 50 years I have 10 electric welders here and have never had this kind of adventure with a welding machine vendor. The new welder worked on one aerial job and I really do not want to use it for anything that important. I do not trust anything made by Everlast at all. I managed to fix the HF in the original welder. I did not want to tear all the circuit boards out as the HF appears to have parts on multiple boards on both sides of welder. The gas valve worked so I put in a timing relay across the coil of the gas valve that turns on the HF and now it works with a 1 1/2 seconds turn on when when the gas valve turns on. The HF circuit works like the circuits in one of my Miller transformer aircrafter tig welders. It fires the arc starts and then hf turns off after 1 1/2 seconds. I bought the welders to do aerial work and they did not cost 13000 like a Miller Dynasty. I bought a new fan from some guy in Taiwan on the internet and it works fine. No schematics, no service manual and a huge problem getting parts. I am not impressed with Everlast. I think these are hobby welders not suitable for industrial use. JB

Check the mother board. I have a Forney that looks like yours. All it would do is click. They told me it was the motor that drives the motor. That wasn’t the problem. Turns out it was the mother board that had shorted out. Then they told me you couldn’t get parts for it anymore. So I scrapped it.

I think expecting a customer to do all this is ridiculous. The next thing is that when you find it is actually broken, they refuse to take it back because the seals on one of the plugs have been broken. In UK English, this would be called a "Gotcha". Hope you get it sorted Steve. When our air fryer died after a couple of weeks and its carton had been tidied into the recycling, the maker arranged that the courier coming to collect the dead one to take away for inspection, would bring a packing carton with him, which he did.

Vevor ain’t so bad. It was like Vertex in the mid to late 90’s. It was “Chinese crap” until a lot of people started using them. Kurtis at Cutting Edge in Australia has a tone of Vertex tools. I had a dividing head made by Vertex and now I have a Vevor dividing head and it’s fairly good.
@gorak9000

That's interesting - I never knew "vertex" was similar to "vevor" - somehow it had been established as a high end brand in my head from how people talk about them (and or the prices of those dividing heads / rotary tables, even used). Never would've guessed that they were just a reseller that slapped their name on stuff. Amazing how one can build the entirely wrong intuitive picture of a brand based on not much evidence! I guess that's what Vevor is aiming for too - in 20 or 30 years, they'll be a "high end" brand compared to the junk available at the time!
@melgross

Vevor has nothing to do with Vertex. Vevor is cheap Chinese equipment, which may be good, and maybe junk. They make nothing, just relabel generic products with a VEVOR label. I have some of their stuff and some is good and some is junk. Vertex is made in Taiwan and is high quality. It’s the main brand of MSC. They make their products, which include $25,000 lathes and mills.

No wire numbers and the color code for the wiring makes no sense. Maybe we can make a video of shooting up a neverlast welder loaded with big bang powder? To figure out where the wires go requires taking the welder almost completely apart. What could go wrong with solder joints that are cold and a bunch of cheap connectors that attach to the circuit boards. I really doubt if one of these is taken apart it would every work right again? And you think Miller isn't made in China too? Maybe they do the final assembly and stick the "Made in Murica" sticker on it somewhere in the US, but all of the parts are of "foreign origin". You just get to pay a premium (aka double) for some schmuck in the US to put a few screws in

@@10swatkins Whether something is manufactured in China is not the same as who provides the warranty and QA. Often the tool for multiple brands comes off the same manufacturing line but the QA and warranty service is the value add provided that the chinese manufacturer has no interest in. They have a different model in buying products in China. The model is basically cash for goods, shipping not the responsibility of the shipper. It doesn't match the rest of the world where service and warranty make up a huge component of the price of goods sold.

Part of the cost savings of cheaper brands is YOU are the QC guy - you get it, unbox it, and test it for them. If it doesn't work, they send you another one, and they still come out money way ahead in not having their own QC department. As an EE / technical guy, I'm rather intrigued that they sent you troubleshooting steps to try, but as a normal person, it's rather horrifying that they asked a rando consumer to take the cover off and do their troubleshooting for them... that's an odd one...

Steve, I've watched you for a while and been a sub most of that time. I respect your knowledge and abilities, but I gotta say, you f*CKED up this time Bubba. Yeh. you saved some long green, but how much did the repair cost you? That cheap Chinese junk saves nothing in the long run. If it's broke right outta the box, how long will it work in the field? What blows me away is the company wants you to trouble shoot this rig, then report back to them. A reputable company would tell you to send it back, postage paid. Regards, Duck

I too am blown away by them wanting me to trouble shoot to this degree.. Maybe the guy that sent those instructions was new and just not thinking, I don't know. So far the "repair" has cost me nothing really. I have a 255 Miller and a Hypertherm Tig that I could have thrown into the trailer to weld up the job, but the Miller Bobcat that is mounted in the trailer worked perfectly fine, just not as easy as a mig would have... I do things on this channel to share with people. How else would we find the better companies and products? Don has had an Everlast Mig for 7 years with no problems, Weld.com says they are great machines. Both sources I considered reputable so when faced with spending 2700.00 or 1000.00 what should I do? Not believe anyone? I had a 140 Miller about 20 years ago that gave me fits also, should I stop buying Miller because of that bad experience that really did cost me a lot of time and money? Anyway a replacement should be here Monday :)

Am I missing something? Isn’t that flat piece of cardboard box you have the machine laying on, the flattened out cardboard box it came in? 🤷‍♂️ That’s what it looked like to me, but admittedly I am a member of the short attention span theatre group & yeah I fell asleep somewhere in the middle and woke up sometime later with Kurtis from Cutting Edge line boring something, & had to go back to where I nodded off half way through & watch again, so I mighta missed something. To be truthful - it was like watching two old dogs tryn ya hump a baseball if I’m to be Frank’s. Send it back & get your cash back & buy a Miller. 👍
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 9 ай бұрын
No, he mentioned briefly that that box was from a large poster or a picture or something - if you look closely, that sheet of cardboard is one that has many creases in it so you can fold up the box to match the size of the thing being shipped, not the original box from the welder.

Sticking your hand in that PCB at 17:13 with capacitors charged up at 240V is a very BAD idea unless you are a trained electronics expert. It's a one way ticket to instant death if your body is touching the ground on the welder table and you touch the positive end of the capacitor. A 10-100A jolt at 240V even for a short instance will not be good for your heart. You need to bleed off those capacitor charges first after the unit has been unplugged. Those caps will ruin your day very quickly if you put your fingers in the wrong spot. You will have an early retirement. At least Everlast put in a clear plastic shield, but make sure you know what you are doing before sticking your fingers inside of a welder box. Many of the Chinese brands don't even put shields, so you better know what you are doing. When the guy was sticking his finger on the board at 17:13, the only thing preventing instant death is that plastic shield.

What Everlast had you do is typical for them. No manufacturer should ever expect the customer open their machine and take measurements. They generally try to have the customer make tests and measurements, sometimes, according to those doing it, over again. One guy who has a welding channel had serious problems trying to get them to take the machine for warrantee. After they finally did, it took 6 months and a number of calls to get it back, with the same problem. I know they give a lot of channels machines, which is how they got name recognition. Ethics have always been a problem for them. There are a lot of shills for them pretending they have their machines and showing up in the comments. Channels that get these for free, remember - free, do so on condition that they praise the machines. You can tell who these are by the phrases they use before making their welds. Something usually like; “I’m going to weld this using my Everlast 200ex 521 - a great machine!” That tells you they got it for free.

You're making a ton of assumptions without any facts to backup your claims. Are their youtubers that get "free" machines? Yes. But the number of free machines given out isn't anywhere near what you think. Everlast has made a name for itself because of how the company is run and they sell quality machines. #1 I've been a happy customer of Everlast since 2012 when I bought my i-mig 200. Oleg the owner of the company called me directly after I complained publicly about not getting a response to an email I sent to them. He gave me a small discount with zero strings attached. A few months later I bought a Power Plasma 50 from them at full price. A few months later he offered to send me a Powertig 210EXT tig welder on a hand shake agreement to pay him when I could. Again, no strings attached. No contract no nothing other than a verbal agreement to pay him. I still have all 3 machines and they work perfectly. My youtube channel really didn't get going until I bought the i-mig 200. Was there some sort of incentive to work with me? Yeah I guess. Not much of one considering my channel was brand new. Last week I purchased a cyclone 262 from them. It should be here soon. I paid their asking price for it. I didn't ask for a discount or any special treatment. Why? Because I weld to fab tech a couple years ago and finally met Oleg (the owner) and Mark (one of their employees). I consider both of them friends. I've watched this company grow from basically the beginning. I see their effort and their very public customer service on FB. So I promote them as a friend that want to see them keep growing and doing well. I expect nothing and have received nothing in exchange for that. I'm a happy customer. As for the tech support. It's some of the best I've ever seen or delt with. My i-mig 200 blew a board a few weeks after my 5 year warranty. Oleg had me check a few things inside and then had me send it back to them. Even out of warranty they repaired it for free. And it's been running fine ever since. I've had no issues with either of my other machines. However I've seen them bend over backward for unruly customers even when they were wrong. The owner is very accessible too. Try to get that from the red or blue companies. The mind set pf having a customer work on their own machine is to get them back up in running fast. If you as a customer don't feel comfortable working inside of the welders. Simply send it back to them for repair and they'll take care of it. Here is an example. I have the first generation 210 ext tig welder. Mine is very different than the current models. I wanted the new Nova pedal but they didn't sell it for the first gen version. They were willing to work with me on adapting one of the pedal to work with my machine. This was after I bought the pedal that I thought I needed, and it didn't work with my machine. I simply contacted them. They had me send it back on their dime once they sent me the replacement pedel. Then they worked with me on the phone to help me wire up the plug to work with my machine. The red or blue companies would never do that. And good luck getting them to repair anything. It's a nightmare of a process because they have dealers that are expected to be the middle man. I for one am extremely grateful for their willingness to educate their customers on how their machines work. Eventually all these machine will be out of warranty. Having some knowledge of how they work will help keep them alive for many years to come. I've thrown several welders and one plasma cutter in the trash because they were out of warranty and the cost of repair was higher than replacement. One red, one blue, and one hypertherm. So to each their own. I'm a fan of the company, their products, and I consider the owner and Mark a personal friend even though I have only met them in person one time.
