I've been using this razor for over a month now and it works well for me. Purchased a variety pack of blades, and the razor closed properly on all brands that I tried. Maybe the current razors have corrected the 'extra turn needed' issue. Of all the blade brands I tried, I found that the Astra Superior Stainless worked best for me. I am a one-pass with a little clean-up kind of guy, so can't give any feedback about how smooth a shave is possible with this razor/blade combo. However, for me it provides a good, clean shave with almost no cuts or irritation. I get 3 to 4 good shaves per blade. I do oil the hadle and butterfly mechanism every week or so, so I am hoping it will continue to open/close smoothly and last a long time. Thank you for your review. Helped me decide to try this razor.

Good review, great video editing and effects! I had a run-in with one of these, out of the box the entire head was bent over from the handle. I was curious how much I would've like the razor if I got a good one. Happy end to this story, right after the bent Facon I got a Razorock Mamba 70 since I wanted a solid steel mild-aggression razor. Love it!

This is more a sweeter bay rum soap right? Might be something for me. I got the Extro Cosmesi: Bay Rum. Very herbal very maculine. But something sweeter wpuld be word a shot.good video:)

Sweeter? Not sure. I'd think that would be a YMMV sort of thing. I don't have alot of Bay Rums to compare it to. I can tell you, though, that it is a favorite.:)

Hi again mark. Tried it out a couple days ago. It worked pretty good. I didn't cut myself much. Just a tiny bit. Haha. Just used some cremo shaving cream. So what do you think of the facon razor blades that come with it? Are they up to your standards?

Dom, Ilike the razor and especially like the handle. the trick with this one is to make sure you really twist it completely closed. I actually don't think I've used the Facon blade yet.

I just ordered this razor on amazon. Having used disposable razors for my whole life, I want to try a good one, and this seems to me like a great entry level razor for a person like me on a budget. And with 50 blades it will defiantly last me a really long time. For this price you would expect crap, but it seems really good! Good video! You are obviously really passionate about razors and shaving. Are you still using the facon? or have you moved on to others? or do you simply switch between the razors that you have?

Dom, I haven't used the Facon much. Yes, I have some other razors that I reach for. but the Facon is a very efficient razor. I like the razor. Just make sure you do that extra twist to make sure the doors are fully closed...unless they've somehow changed this. Glad you found the video helpful. Make sure to use a light touch. Keith, sorry to hear about it not being available on Amazon Canada. For the money, it's a rather nice razor. Very solid. Other wet shavers report that it's mild...I find it to be ever so slightly above that, but still a good, efficient performer.:) YMMV.:)

Hi Mark, Loved the review, especially the photography of the razor ... Your face, not so much. However I think the razor you demonstrated has a design flaw (or manufacturing defect) related to the razor not initially closing completely. In your video (3:00 to 3:30) you talk about the razor not being closed completely and requiring an extra full turn to set the blade. At 3:07 (into the video) there is a great picture of the blade being concave upwards in the razor (even though the image is a little blurred). This is due to the sides of the "blade end tab (parallel to the blade cutting edges)" contacting the side edge of the doors as they are closed. In this position the blade is acting like a spring pushing against the closing of the razor doors. And when the handle is turned that extra turn you can hear (and see) the blade popping into place. After watching this review I purchased this razor and saw that my razor has the same issue. Also I observer when closing the empty razor (without a blade), the razor closes completely without any significant resistance. I believe this is a design flaw (and not manufacturing defect) because this same issue is seen in more than one example of this razor. Also there is a 1-star review in the Amazon reviews of this product describing the same issue (without discussing the added extra turn). So that makes 3 razors exhibiting this same problem.

Chuck I cannot disagree entirely with your assessment. I almost made the mistake of shaving with this razor before making that complete, final full twist to lock things and seat the blade properly. Design flaw or on purpose? I'm not sure. However, I enjoyed the shave and like the look of the razor.:)

@@MarkSzorady OK, and an update: Just tried this razor with a Dorco Prime Platinum and this time the Razor closed correctly. Previously I had used a Derby USTA blade and that exhibited this closing issue. And this video demonstrated the problem using a Shark Super Chrome blade.

No, I've not used the Facon for ahead shave. I think it's a bit too aggressive for my head. YMMV. However, the iKon X3 slant is wonderfully mild for head shaves and the Supply SE single edge injector razor is fabulous. The PSS meta4 is another razor that I love using for head shaves. if you search for "mark Szorady Head Shave" on KZfaq many of these videos will come up showing razors that work for me with head shaves.

Nice shave, Mark. @12:17 that might be your best war paint yet, 😆. I have that brush scuttle on my wishlist. There are so many new things that I find out about every week. I have a question for you regarding the Merkur Progress. Do you have any problems holding that razor while shaving? Some say that it's extremely slippery while others say it's not a problem. I know that you can use an alum block to dry your hands with but I don't like that I have to do that. I'm thinking about getting the progress or the Game Changer .84. razor.

Hi, ThaRedPitbull-Mix. I have no problem using the Progress No slippage that I can recall. I used it recently and it was fine. However, I do have an extra towel on the counter so I can wipe my hands. Also, I'll use the alum block trick to improve grip. I did this just this morning. I used my Merkur Futur razor. You may want to research the Parker Variant. Same overall design as the Progress, but a more traditional knurled handle.

@@MarkSzorady I ended up just getting the .84 Game Changer razor. I've been wanting a stainless steel razor for a while. I found the Merkur 34c too mild. Have you seen that new adjustable razor called the Tatara Muramasa? That thing is something else but in a good way. Too expensive for me though.
