Used one on my 1994 Ford 4.6L, engine knocked at start-up, like a lash adjuster wasn't getting oil at first. Changed to a Fram and it wuit knocking.

Believe it or not, STP high mileage full synthetic 5W30 has a lower evaporation than Valvoline's Synpower and their high mileage full synthetics in my 03 Dodge Neon non-turbo. It's an old car that burned more oil 10-13 years ago than it does today. I added about 4-ish quarts three months ago 4-20-24, and drained about 4-ish quarts out today - including the STP oil filter contents. The oil level on the dip stick was at the full mark about two weeks ago before I changed and drained the oil today 7-28-24. The Valvoline would be about half-way down the hash mark on the dip stick before the three-month mark. STP will be my go to oil for my next cheap car after the 2003 Neon is dead.

I’m currently trying the STP xl. Seems like a well built filter. I’ve been using the PPE filter but $30 a pop wasn’t viable when the STP is built just as well, minus the extra capacity

I used an STP XL today. The gasket was not red silicone, it was black and seemed like the typical rubber that most use. Also, the core was plastic, not metal. Seems they are making these cheaper now unless some were always that way.

I believe this particular STP XL filter is a Premium Guard filter (made in Vietnam). From what I have learned, Premium Guard places a leak test stamp on the end of the canister. Nice looking build on this one... I'm going to run one on my LZ0. I greatly appreciate your videos on the 3.0 Duramax family. I love to learn about my machines and have learned a lot from you. I'm new to this engine ('24 AT4) and loving it so far. Please keep up the good work, sir! It's appreciated!

@@PastarocketS-sb7nk question on the ppe oil filter. Because the filter is much bigger, longer. It should hold more oil? Do you have to run more oil on board than the normal 7 quarts to accommodate? sorry if this question is dumb.

Thanks for doing this, looks like an amazing oil filter for my LZ0 - I own a shop, I just pulled a STP S7317XL off the shelf for comparison, and the interior is the plastic variety like the PF66. I'm currently transitioning away from STP oil filters because even same part number oil filters have barely any consistency, bouncing back and forth between metal core and plastic core, different sizes and colors that is noticeable when you handle them every day. clearly different manufacturers over time.

Fram and Champ Labs are now owned by First Brands Group. They are not independent companies anymore. I think they are messing around with their product lines and mixing things. I have noticed my FRAM cartridge filters for my Camry are actually CHAMP LAB cartridge filters, with FRAM printing on the plastic end cap. I have also noticed the OE plus filters at Canadian Tire are Champ Lab filters, just like the Castrol Filters. You just don't know what you getting any more.

I have done some research and the pf66 Should Not have a pressure relief valve. The LZ0 has an internal one, and with the variable oil pump the pressure will get to high for an oil filter that has one, meaning that the oil would just keep bypassing the filter media and go through the valve.. Not Good. So look and make sure the filter you use doesn’t have one.
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks 2 ай бұрын
The pf66 is the factory filter which has a bypass in it, there are filters with a bypass and some without. With the internal bypass system, I believe either are ok. I don't think the oil will continue bypassing though, It should still only bypass with the pressure deltas reach the specified number.
@BigRedDmax
@BigRedDmax 2 ай бұрын
I’ve seen the pf66 without a pressure relief valve in it. But I think you’re right that most times the filter will work it’s just under higher pressure that it might bypass. They had issues a few years ago on vettes that needed a stronger spring on the valve.
@DemonWorks

@@BigRedDmax you are correct, at one point they did not have one in it, they also had a metal core at that time and seemed to be a more durable appearing filter.

I'll have to give this filter a try, I like the STP full synthetic as an affordable alternative when I can't get my hands on AMSOIL Signature or Royal Purple. I personally don't like ACDelco anything when it comes to oil filters, motor oil or spark plugs. I have the 2.7l Turbo-4 in my 2020 Silverado and I've been looking for a more quality replacement to the janky PF66 that comes stock on it. I was also looking at the PPE filter that's meant as an upgrade for the 3.0l Duramax. Yes it's expensive, but I like the idea of the little extra filtering capacity. But since these are a third of the price I might have to get two or three to store for future oil changes. I've been wanting to give a Purolator BOSS filter a try as well but sadly they don't make one for the L3B or 3.0l Duramax yet. I don't know if they will in the future because they have them available for everything else but not those two engines.

My 2023 GMC Sierra with the 2.7 Turbomax is currently running the factory PF66 and I can tell from your video's as well as others it's not that great of a filter. This STP is tops on my list so far for my trucks 2nd oil change!

Just because an oil filter is made in the USA is not a guarantee, it is a high-quality filter. It's the standards and parts used that make the quality. Companies go to other countries for the cheapest labor.

Absolutely ! I prefer the ppe oil filter for the diesels, it's a longer filter than oem, better filtration and it's a replacement for the pf66. My next favorite is the STP shown here, it shows great quality internals and appears to be a good filter. Nothing wrong with oem, it is good enough to do the job. The key is to do the maintenance often and don't fall behind. Quality oils as well !
