I hate that everyone keeps getting rid of buttons and knobs to replace them with touch screens. Buttons allow me to keep my eyes on the road while making adjustments.

I actually love the paddles being mounted on the column. It allows for them to be bigger, better designed and with a nicer mechanical feel. Also, I like that no matter how out of shape I get in fast switch corners, I always know which paddle is up and which is down.

That’s why it was the very first V8 front engined Ferrari ever produced. Has you probably know, the Roma is built on top of a California platform. The Alfieri probably will never see the Sun light.

Huge pedals on the column for me, but if they are large enough and feel tactile enough either is acceptable. I’m used to driving a Giulia and stelvio QV for the past 2 years and I love the column shifters on them, which are basically identical to Ferrari. I really dislike small plastic shift paddles. If you put them on the column then by default they will always be large enough by necessity of needing to reach them. Cars with wheel mounted shifters tend to cheap out on them more often.
@_n-Dee_
@_n-Dee_ 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! When you shift gears it all happens before the corner! Therefor you always have your hands on the wheel even with colomn mounted shifters. Shifters on the wheel irritates when you turn the wheel and get accidentally on the shifter and dont know for seconds where is up and where down to shift.

Benjamin Walker I’m not hot about it either. But Ferrari is ALWAYS ahead of the game in design. The 458 was radical and strange. Now, beloved. The 360 was horrendous when it came out as it was bulbous. Many car companies copied that. Now the car is a classic icon....the standard to what people think a Ferrari is. The Roma will grow on you.

Re the paddles position, If you use pull push steering the fixed paddles will pretty much be always in the right place. Also for road driving using pull push you will never run out of steering, which on a mountain hairpin in a fast powerful car could get a bit tricky
@user-qm4te9lb5l
@user-qm4te9lb5l 3 жыл бұрын
21:15 Column paddles reduces the margin of error during cornering. Steering mounted can make the driver loose sense of which paddle does what and which position they're currently in while cornering, as opposed to column mounted which makes the movement more regular and automatic, so drivers don't have to think about it. Vast majority of race cars use column even tough they only have 540 degree steering rotation.

Paddles mounted on the column is the best way, because the paddles always there where you expecting them. And in a corner no real good driver shifts, brakes or accelerates. You slow down before the corner to the right speed and when you left the corner and the steering is straight again you can accelerate, so you are always fast and you have always the maximum of traction. As much as I like modern cockpits of cars, this Ferrari has not a very good balance between buttons and touchscreen. In this case I like the concept of Gordon Murrays T.50 much more; that's infotainment system doesn't age so quick as the on of the Roma.

Maybe I'm very old school but I don't like having so many screens. I recently saw Harry's garage video on the F430 and I think that was a sweet spot when it comes to interiors. What's wrong with using a key and normal indicators?

Eyes on the road. Eyes on the road. Eyes on the road. Changes switch gear to touch screens so there's no tactile feel and you have to look at the buttons.

that's what I told til about some years. Then I bought my first car with almost no buttons, a simple Peugeot 308 GT. First I was really confused (also with the Peugeot's own way of cockpit management). But now I got used to it and I still find the cockpit with less mechanical buttons organized and cleaned up. Look for example the new Corvette C8 with the armada of buttons in the middle... for me a NO GO!

@@marky9117 No, it's Piedmont! All the video is shot in a zone called Langa(or le Langhe), a great spot for wines(mainly Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and Barolo) and cuisine! You should definitely check it out if you can! And I also advice to discover Monferrato, another great spot for wines and cuisine although a lot less famous than the Langhe! About the town on the top of the hill I don't know at which you're referring to 'cause a LOT of little towns are on top of the hill in this region :D Obviously also Tuscany is very nice tho :D

Tomorrow a buddy is going to Germany to review and probably buy a low mileage F355 Spider. Went to test drive a few with him. I cannot wait til that car arrives. I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS!! Yet MY GOD a touch screen for the engine start and a passenger screen to handle the infotainment????? I hope (however electric it all will be) that we can show newer generations that driving can be about the driving, not about BS (or what you can also do on an iPad).

Absolutely beautiful car. I agree with others that for people that have never driven or even been around a Ferrari, this would be the ultimate first choice Ferrari for them. The exterior is exquisite, I absolutely love the interior with the cockpit and center section divide, and the forward menu and touchscreen steering wheel is awesome. I just love it. Great job Ferrari
