Harry’s a GOOD farm manager, I think he should dock your pay for the fertiliser spillage. It’s the only way to teach an Old dog a new trick. Hit him where it hurts, in his pocket.

You need a clamp on mirror to put on the back of the spreader then you can see down in there. Farmer engineering. You're definitely right about the size for your farm. It's easy for people to tell you to buy the big one because they don't have to pay for it.

Good idea but mirror may forever be covered in fertiliser dust

I was thinking the same thing , maybe an old rear view mirror from a car at an angle attached to the back with with a piece of bamboo or something like that :)

Hi richarrd congrats with this new kit you bought, we alse got a vicon spreader at home they are great relieble machines, as a tip i would give is before storing it in winter you could take op the viberglas hopper als give it a good clean with the pressure washer and let it dry after that give the metal a good coat with a mix of oil and diesel and it wil last even 1 more time longer. Crack on with te good job

Richard definitely isn’t a person for machinery but that doesn’t matter, the cows pay the bills and that’s where it matters.

Cant go wrong with a wagtail spinner good to see you enjoy it .those big twin disc spinner probably cost 3 times more not cost efficient on a small dairy farm

Nice video richard 3 pointers i would make though ALWAY'S remember to turn that PTO off.. spin your headlands first and third check the width of that spread think youll find its throwing further than you think dont need too much overlap..i know its new and things take time to get used to.. but what a great little spreader that wagtail is and harry is going to make a good farm manager keep the good videos coming 👍👍
@thefunkyfarmer

Richard is open for criticism with his videos and l imagine he expects it, l applaud his openness and their willingness to stick at what they’re doing, small farms like theirs can’t manage without cows and that regular milk cheque, they do well.

Rich why not try slurry between the 1st and second cut and leave the fert in the shed till 3rd cut😊

When you said about you have got to be careful if have got cuts on your hands, it reminded me of one summer I was on shop duty down at the allotment trading hut and it was a very hot Sunday morning so I striped off my T shirt, and someone came in and wanted some Lime which I had to weigh up as we didn't have any on the shelves so I opened a 25 kg bag and shot it into the metal bin where we kept the open bags in, unfortunately I got some of it in my belly button hole and boy did that burn had wash it out from the water tank the front of my jeans looked as though I had pee myself.

Nice spreader. What model is it? I bought the Kubota colored version of the Vicon. VS 600 base unit with hopper to be a VS 1000, has 2,200 lb capacity. I believe the Vicon base unit is 604 and the hopper makes it a 1004 with 2,200 capacity. Yours looks a little bigger? I’ve had good luck with mine. All the best… 👍

You could also mount a "reversing camera" on the rear of the cab tilted down to the spreader. They are cheap now and it may also be usefull for other jobs. lace it on a bracket and then you could move the camera to the loader and you can see more there also when doing loader work. Could have a simi permant loom on each location and then Plug and Play.

Brilliant to see herdsman Jack doing the stuff with the cows. WRT to the spinner, just the job for your operation. I would suggest, start on the headland facing your work, PTO on, set the revs, start driving and then open the valve as after you leave the headland and you won't lose so much fert on the headland.

Here in Devon they forecasted thunder showers friday, saturday, sunday ,monday.........and all we had was a bit of light rain for a couple of hours saturday morning that you hardly needed a coat on for and now wednesday it's boiling hot 28c so yes it's difficult this time of year getting grass to grow.......it looks much greener with you than it does here as we graze our fields and mow them there just burning off now. could be serious if we don't get some real rain soon
