Join me & my dog, Logan (the Whippet) as we follow a circular walk starting & finishing at Godshill in the New Forest. As well as experiencing some stunning views, we meet a baby Donkey, explore a WW2 Decoy Airfield & stumble across a cricket pitch in the middle of nowhere!
I should point out that best advice is to keep your distance from livestock on the Forest and, in the video, even though the cute baby Donkey approached me, it was wrong of me to get that close.
This is the second video in a series of walks by us on the New Forest. Check out my channel for details of other video walks in the Countryside at: / @daveford

Filmed using an AKASO V50 Pro and ISteady Pro Gimbal. Still shots taken with a Cannon SX400IS.

Hello Dave, Lovely Video. If I see anything on my Walks I often take a picture, then look up in the evening at home. The Glastonbury Chalice Well, & Red Spring are also very ‘Orange’ in Colour due to the heavy Iron deposits in the Spring Water, it is frequently drunk by visitors & has quiet an ‘Earthy’ taste, but looks very clear. How unusual those , Cock fighting pits at Godshill, easy to miss Dave

Smashing walk Dave. That "pink gorse" was probably dodder, a semi parasitic plant which grows on gorse and flowers pink in late summer

Thanks John. You get some great colours over heathland at that time of year.

Hello Dave. I don't know Godshill, but it was a very pretty area. I loved that donkey foal attaching itself to you. Lovely shots across the valley. Beautiful.

Yes that donkey was cute...but I regret touching it as it is something that you shouldn't do with livestock on the Forest.

Another stunning video of a part of the Forest hubby and I adore for all the reasons you’ve shown today. As soon as you said about the Bouncing Bomb part my ears pricked up, hubby is so interested in anything to do with that.! Very many thanks for the beautiful sights and the lovely walk. Incidentally, I just love the guitar music you have, beautiful. I said that to you before and you gave me the name and how to get it, could you please tell me what it’s called again? A bit like your specs, an age thing as I’ve forgotten! Thanks so very much Dave, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks Sue. The guitar music is by Chris Haugen - much of his content can be downloaded for free from the KZfaq Audio Library. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMV2n5Cc09XJnps.html

Dave, it’s great to see these videos of my very favourite place The New Forest, I first holidayed there in 1979 when I was 8 years old and have holidayed there every year since (often 3 times a year and a total of 4 weeks) and all I am waiting for is a decent lottery win to enable me to move there.

I probably know the area better than where I unfortunately have to live.

Another fine walk Dave thanks for sharing I’d be interested as you mentioned ‘Bottom’ lol there’s a landfill site nearby as you may know called Pound Bottom I’d be interested in knowing when it opened I have tipped in there many years ago when I drove skip lorries.

I believe that the Pound Bottom site has been an authorised landfill site since around 1978. I recall reading somewhere that the process for closing the site / starting the restoration may have finally started after planning permission issues - but I am not 100% sure about that.

Logan looked a bit puffed at the end there in the pub! I hope you didn't have too much "excitement" trying to find him? Interestingly, I couldn't see a map for this walk (unless I fell asleep!). Is there a route you would recommend to follow? Thanks John

Hi John. Yes, that was a hot day! That was only my second video (I think) & in the early days I didn't put a map up. It was not a long walk. I parked at the FC Godshill Cricket Pitch car park & started opposite the Fighting Cocks pub before heading East along the Godshill Ridge. I then crossed the B3078 & went down Gravel pit Hill, over Millersford Bottom & up to the Godshill Inclosure before heading back to the pub. I have a video of a longer walk in the area coming out later on in the year.

@@DaveFord thanks Dave - look forward to that. Almost inexhaustible the number of walks that the Forest can offer! Did part of the Deadman Hill walk on Saturday and had the great pleasure of seeing "Lucky Lane Rollo" keeping an eye on his ladies in the delightfully secluded Hale Purlieu - really a magical place.
