Great video. One thing I also like to do before I take the caliper off is get a big-ish flat head screwdriver and put it in between disc and pry outwards which will push the piston in a little and will make it easier to take the caliper off when the bolts are out. Just a small thing to add though.

Great video. I know its a bit old now but really hoping you are still active on here cause I have a question that seems to be no asnwer for on all the usual forums - where can you use a trolley jack on the Mk4 Mondeo?! Ive just come back inside from finishing another oil change on the car, and once again (like last time) I bent the sills because of the trolley jack lift. Then, when its up in the air on the jack, I cant get the axle stands in. What a faff! It would be fantastic if you could let us know where you're jacking and axle stand locations are. Cheers mate! :)

Use the trolly jack under the subframe with a piece of 4x2 on it, there's 1 front & back.

@@cliveosborne8195 Is it possible to link to a picture? This is the only thing stopping me from sorting my brakes (they aren't dangerous, just would like to do them before the weather turns!), I've got ramps for filters and have changed a flat with the factory Jack no problem, just don't know where to put the trolley

t982678249 Don’t worry about it. You don’t really need them - when the wheel is bolted up the disc isn’t going anywhere. The clips are just to make assembly easier.

@@teecee90 Thanks for quick reply and link. I think I'll buy them for install at next wheel change, cost is low and I think it's more convinient to change wheels while those retaining clips hold brake discs secured.

Why fit incorrect disc's ?
@GreasyPrimate
@GreasyPrimate 8 жыл бұрын
Hi. Did you watch all the way through and listen to the commentary? I didn't realise they were wrong until I was well into the fitting process so decided to fit them for the purpose of the video rather than re-shoot. The only difference to the original discs was the stud holes were slightly bigger. It only took 10-15 minutes each side to replace the discs when the correct ones arrived.
@KAZUYADOG
@KAZUYADOG 8 жыл бұрын
Very rarely listen to commentary on YT video's so did not hear you're explanation in commentary as to why you used the incorrect disc's (appologies for that). The disc's you used do have 14mm clearance holes for the larger 14mm x 1.5 studs fitted to S-Max and Galaxy they also have the disc securing screw hole,Mondeo use 12mm x 1.5. You do good video's with good links.

Isnt clamping brake hoses dangerous?
@twig3288
@twig3288 6 жыл бұрын
No need to clamp the hose, just press the brake pedal and prop it with a stick against the drivers seat, that closes off the fluid supply from the reservoir. Then open the bleed nipple and press in the caliper piston. To avoid a risk of a flat battery, remove brake light fuse first.

@@mjyumping Good. It's worth checking to avoid running the battery flat. With the brake pedal depressed you can spend as much time as you like with the flexible hoses disconnected and you won't lose any brake fluid and you don't need to crush the hoses.
