Ryan, you have an infestation buddy. Get yourself like 5 Duke's Dog Proof Racoon traps. They are super effective. I'd suggest trapping, shooting, and burying the little buggers. If you do use these traps, don't put them in the grass because the coon will go absolute crazy trying to get out of it and they tear up any and everything within reach of the chain. Use dog or cat food to bait it. Make sure when you stake the trap down, you do it in firm dirt or use one of those trampoline anchors. Good luck!

Cut the tube on the sprayer and link up a different sprayer. Lots of fittings and attachments to do so.

On the CoCoRaHS rain gauge - any time I get over an inch, I pour out the first inch, then place the top funnel on the inside tube to insure I won't spill any of the remaining amount. Hope this helps...

That's what happened to my front lawn last year after an overseeding. I thought it was the squirrels, but it was happening overnight. I put down Grubex, but I never saw any grubs. I have no idea what they were digging for.

Pest control around the house as well as your one gallon bundle from simple lawn solutions. I know you are doing a lot with lawn supply company. Are you still working with simple lawn as well. About the shrooms I have one spot in my yard closer to forest that I have same for 2or 3 years this year nothing. But I heard that of mushroom grows there soil is extremely healthy and rich in nutrients so that calms me down I always cut them of with mover anyways😂

whats the grass you have in the front lawn? Im getting ready to over seed my lawn in the coming weeks. But trying to decide on the perfect seed to live and look good through winter and also look great during the summer. I have some shaded aread in my back lawn because of some huge trees I have so thats a factor Im trying to figure out.

I have an old tree we cut down a few years back, and I get very large, woody mushrooms growing around the roots. Like if I hit one with the lawnmower it rattles around, and dulls the blade until it shoots it out, or I stop it. The mushrooms are so hard they don't even break up. I usually kick them out, which I have to be careful, because it takes 4 or 5 good kicks and if you hit it wrong, it will stub a toe. Is there anything to put down for them? Or should I just keep kicking them out? They leave large holes behind, like your racoon damage, and sometime the grass grows through them so it rips out turf to remove them. They are rather nasty things.

Im in zone 9 California with 85% fescue %15 KBG At 4” tall and watered, grass had stood moist in the shade areas and become brown and thin. Im thinking of cutting down to 3” for this summer and i went on a week trip and didn’t water since i dont have an irrigation system it wasnt possible to get watered. Anyway, i applyed grub ex 2 weeks ago but now i want to prepare for summer heat. The highs here will be 90 next week. Any suggestions? They sell some summer feed at home depot and / or should i apply seed in the thin areas?

you have done extensive testing. i currently live near the bottom of the transition zone (East TN) and have a KBG lawn. I dont care too much about monostand, but just want a consistent green lawn with thin blades. I tend to get patches in the KBG around Aug and september and need to overseed becuase they are bad enough but outside those two months, the yard looks great the rest of the year. would perennial rye be an ok option to get a quick fix at the end of the summer and fill those spots for the winter season? would the rye survive the summer or kbg take over and fill in the spots of rye?

It’s likely worms. We have had haaaaaaaaauge problems with raccoons doing the same thing and watch them pull massive worms out of our lawn. Same with birds though they don’t really damage the lawn nearly as bad.

IKYK but: How to Stop Raccoons & Skunks from Digging up My Lawn Raccoons won’t waste a lot of effort for no reward, so they can be discouraged. If you make it really hard for them to dig, and keep the amount of food they can find from digging down, they’ll go looking elsewhere. (think chain link fence or netting laid over the top of the area of your yard they are prone to dig) Remember: Nematodes ONLY work on young grub larvae in LATE summer/early fall! ONLY apply Nematodes right when the new eggs have hatched into larvae. Current Nematodes in the market can not kill mature larvae in the Spring (Don’t waste your money!) Grubs move deeper into the soil when the soil temperature is cool, Animals won’t dig 6-8″ down, they want an easy lunch up top in the 1st inch of soil. Grub Control with Nematodes is certainly part of the fix. Getting a preventative treatment every year in August or September - especially in neighbourhoods known to have grub (and skunk and raccoon) problems - will not only keep your grass well-rooted and hard to flip up, but will prevent a bumper crop of grubs from eating your roots and turning your lawn into a raccoon buffet. Rooting of the grass is key because it makes digging difficult. Keep the soil wet before AND after the Nematodes are applied. If skunks or raccoons do flip up the turf, fold it back ASAP before it dries out, water it and get a root-building fertilizer on it. It’s important to avoid further turfgrass death from raccoons trying to pull up your sod. Cayenne pepper, coyote urine (or ‘marking your territory’ yourself!) or commercial repellents are all ‘somewhat’ effective. (hit and miss) If your lawn is small enough, unrolling chicken-wire over the areas where the raccoon’s like to dig can frustrate them. Just remember to move it every few days so it doesn’t grow into the lawn. We recommend a motion-activated sprinkler like “the scarecrow” that blasts the furry bandits with cold water when they walk into detecting range. Prevention is key when it comes to stopping raccoons and skunks from tearing up your yard at night. Focus on developing healthy turf with strong roots through proper nutrients, aeration and over-seeding. A thick, healthy well-rooted lawn with proactive care is the best answer to avoid the frantic call of “may-day”! Understand the problem: The turf is flipping up easy because the grub larvae ate the roots all last fall. Animals digging is a symptom, and usually means there are grubs underneath BUT it’s not always the case - confirm visually the presence and number of grubs in a small 1 sq. ft. patch Vole tracks that you see in the spring are not indicative of grubs. In fact, Voles are vegetarians and do not eat grubs. For more information see: Voles in my lawn
