We decided to do a video on the new MV Triton. Join us as we get in the cockpit and pilot this new gen ute. We are very impressed by it. However, we noticed that a lot had rolled over from the MR triton and wanted to highlight it all in our latest video.
Please like Subscribe and comment if you have any follow up questions.
Massive thanks to Hobart Mitsubishi for allowing us to drive the new Triton.

great video we loved our MR triton. however do disagree on getting a V6 ranger over an MV. its nearly 75k for a V6 ranger XLT where as a MV GLS can find for under 60k and there so many people across ford forums and groups who are complaining about how many issues the new rangers are having. Do love your MR build one of the cleanest builds we have seen and we enjoy the videos 🙂

Thanks for your reply, it was fun making this video and comparing the two generation Tritons. The MV is a good upgrade we feel if it was priced at the same price as the MR hands down would be one of the best in the segment. Cheapest we could see a GLS MV was around 63k the one on test was 67k which is what we got quoted for a v6 Ranger when they first got released, prices may not be accurate as they are constantly changing in this market.

Good video. I think from a ute perspective the update to tub/ rear seat and axel position is a good improvement. I think the MV now comes with the auto start/stop which i'd rather not have. Definitely with the price increase i think that it could push people into a ranger or Hilux especially now that new vehicle supply has largely normalised.

Yeah absolutely, you can feel a difference in the way the ute handles and feels more planted on the road with the extended wheelbase, we didn’t touch on the start stop as most utes and new cars have this as a way to side step emissions. Yeah agreed, the MV lacks quite a lot of wow factor in comparison to the V6 Ranger. We expect a few price drops on the MV to come.

Seems NZ has the better deal for MV Tritons than any other country at the moment GLX - 4WD super select II, 17" basic alloy rims on AT tyres, Heavy duty leaf springs. Key start, halogen lights. That's about it, Base model work horse. $52.6k NZD (driveaway) so around 48k AUD GLXR - 4WD super select II, 18" fancy alloy on HT tyres, Sport leaf springs, Push start, LED lights, dual climate, lid for dash glove box, Slightly different front end and fog light design $55.5k NZD driveaway VRX - Same as GLXR. But the chrome is blacked out and fender flares added, leather seats, few other little things $61500 NZD driveaway I picked up the base model GLX couple weeks ago, I don't NEED any of the extras from the higher models although would be nice to have. Still happy with my purchase. Triton is a damn good buy in NZ for the price. Hilux and Ranger Starting at $56k for base model 2.0. and the V6 going over $80k Sucks hearing about how Australia, Philippines and Thailand MV tritons are so different in features and price. Mitsi and dealers are really shitting the bed with their pricing in these countries

You are so damn right. Here in the Philippines, we can't even have the rear air circulator, parking sensors, active yaw control and a 4x4 automatic transmission unless we buy the top of the line Athlete or called GSR in Australia. The jump from the GLS to the Athlete is so big that many wanted a variant in the middle of it like a 4x4 GLS.

Great video, I hadn’t heard about not having to do the valve adjustment on the MV. I’’m a big fan of the new Triton but you’re right about the price, it’s too expensive. It’s just not ‘cool enough’ to most people to justify the price hike. Would that make me go to the V6 Ranger? No chance, I’ve read it’s a notoriously bad engine. I’ve only seen 2 Tritons on the road since the release so I reckon they might drop the price a bit.

Thanks so much for your reply. We feel the ranger is in a class of its own on paper and it’s the number one selling ute due to how much it offers the market. Time will tell how reliable the v6 ranger will be, it’s pretty much the reason we decided on an MR as the new gen ranger hadn’t been on the market long enough at the time to prove reliability and no spare parts around just yet for a quick fix when touring. Again, price point isn’t far off the ranger that offers so much more, they will be forced to drop the price, if you have a look at the sales data they aren’t selling well at all. If Mitsubishi sold them at the same price point as the MR they would sell like hot cakes haha!

The driver monitoring system is part of ancap new safety program, all the previous model utes like the ranger and hilux d max have 5 star saftey based on the older 2022 5 star rating standard. Meaning a hilux or ranger will no longer have a 5 star rating from ancap based on the newer standard . What Mitsubishi should have done is give an option to permanently disable the driver monitoring system, i also think they should have not deleted the paddle shifters.

Yeah absolutely, you can turn it off in the settings but as soon as you turn the car off and back on it returns. It contradicts its purpose it’s meant to keep you focused on the road yet it distracts you notifying when it can’t see your face, we are hoping Mitsubishi fix it, but they don’t have the best track record of fixing problems in their utes. Eg. intercooler hoses, turbo manifolds, manual gearbox synchros and the list goes on.

Just wondering if you or other mr owners have an issue by a shudder or miss fire feeling when sitting on 80 to 100 and when you take ya foot off the pedal and slowly put it back on in highway driving we get the feeling. We have had the car from new and its only just started doing it and its got around 82000 on the clock. Took it back to the dealer and they said it might be the gearbox needs a remap but they said ill have to pay for that and it will take all day. They said it might not fix the issue and that they do not know what is wrong and said they do not know how to fix the problem even though when test we did the test drive they could feel it .

Does your ute have a lift kit? I’d try another dealer or be pushing for them to cover under warranty as it’s not normal or fit for purpose with a fault like that. Also reach out on the triton Facebook page and see if anyone else is having the issue.

@@bigles4545 I’d try and put a tail shaft spacer in, Dobinson’s do a 25mm spacer which should stop the shutter. We had to do it to ours when we installed the lift and it made a massive difference. The diff is out of alignment when you lift the car up by two inches, your centre bearing may be on the way out also which is why there is vibration noticeable now where it wasn’t there before. Really hope this helps 💪

@@yan_stewi_travels True. It might be a limited amount, but lots of big transport trucks use it as well. There was a shortage last year or there abouts. The main ingredient is urea, of which I think we buy from China...
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 12 күн бұрын
Considering it’s a synthetically manufactured urea in de-mineralized water Australia could manufacture it for sure, hopefully we don’t see a shortage like that again considering now every new ute utilises adblue. Mitsubishi told us that it will only need to be filled on service, 17L per 15,000kms isn’t to bad when you look at it like that.

The mv triton is much better than the Mr, it seems like the dealerships are marking up prices in Australia for the triton. For instance the gls triton should cost 59,000 but yet the dealers are asking for 66,000 which is what the gsr should cost. Top ute model and prices 2024 Gr hilux - 75 310 + taxes 2024 Isuzu d max x terrain -70 500 + taxes 2024 triton gsr - 63,840 + taxes 2024 ford ranger platinum v6 - 80,640 + taxes 2024 ford ranger raptor - 90,440 + taxes The hilux and ranger top spec models are much more expensive than a gsr triton mv , the hilux does not even have full time 4wd like the ranger or the triton The x terrain d max is also more expensive than a gsr triton. Yes you can buy a cheaper d max with less comfort but you can also do the same for the Triton. Maybe the triton might only sell at its proper msrp of Mitsubishi lowers the prices which should not be, its clear the dealerships in Australia are greedy and just capitalizing on the triton being a newer model.

Yeah we believe you’re right, although looking at sales data here in Aus is already hurting the dealers as they aren’t selling many based off May 24’ sales data, Triton didn’t even make it in the top ten. We feel there will be a few price drops on the MV as currently it’s very close to a v6 ford ranger, dmax and hilux. Here in Australia the ranger is the number one selling car not just ute. We have included a few price points below based of (new and in stock) mid spec models in AUD. Ranger V6 XLT white: $73,990 Hilux SR5 white: $67,656 Dmax LS-U white: $64,500 Triton GLS white: $66,950 We feel the ranger is worth the price with the v6 and significantly more tech, it’s a true next gen with a completely updated chassis and body as well as a complete revision of engine and driveline.
@warcrabcyber9908
@warcrabcyber9908 11 күн бұрын
@yan_stewi_travels the ranger is probably more unreliable than a Chinese ute, ford also tanks badly in the US for reliability. Their engines are the worse. To each his own, I think the only advantage the ranger has Is its car like ride from its suspension. Car expert Paul has a v6 ranger, he is a huge advocate for ford claiming the ranger is the best value ute, yet he had to replace the transfer case on his ranger in less than 50k miles. For some the problems are even worse. Everyone wants a v6 in a ute for 3.5 tonne towing but the reality is most people with utes don't tow that amount. I'll also point out that the triton has drum brakes in the back and still manages to stop before a v6 ranger which has disc brakes from 100km - 0. This really shouldn't be considering how much disc brakes are hyped in utes.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 11 күн бұрын
@@warcrabcyber9908 yeah at the end of the day the reason we didn’t buy a ranger was due to it being untested and unsure of reliability being so new, time will tell if it’s any good as we to have read a few horror stories already it seems all the car makers have their faults some worse than others. Interesting that’s the triton stops quicker than the ranger, where did you see this? Could be down to the weights of each as Ranger is heavier, I’d rely on disks when towing as they can be vented efficiently and won’t over heat as quick as drums. Also interesting that Ranger doesn’t actually show the size of the disks in their spec sheet either to compare size.
@warcrabcyber9908
@warcrabcyber9908 11 күн бұрын
@yan_stewi_travels I saw this on car expert stop test they do the stop test for every ute from 100km -0 , the ranger takes longer to stop than both versions of the triton old and new. Can't you drive in manual mode when towing and also use engine braking? I also never heard of brakes in a triton overheating while towing. Maybe if you are going downhill for a long period of time? I can see a problem.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 11 күн бұрын
@@warcrabcyber9908 never overheated our drums on the rear but it’s been proven for disks to be more efficient and to heat up less, otherwise you’d seen drum brakes on f1 cars, the drums are a cost effective solution at the end of the day which is what it comes down to when manufacturing.

Waited 2 years for these to come out, and sadly so. Biggest disappointment. Drove it, took it back to dealer 10 mins later. Just horrible, that driver facing camera nonsense is an untenable situation. Laughable you only talk about it for 30 seconds. It is a deal breaker. That should be the first, middle and last 30 seconds of the review. Do not buy. Will not touch one now. Waiting on Tasman to pray they implement this crap properly and test it.

Kia and Hyundai were grilled about overly intrusive and sensitive "safety" systems a few months back and their response was "It's for Euro NCAP, not the Australian market which is only 3% of sales, don't like it? 🖕 Buy something else." So forget the Tasman. You might want to look at the Hilux, where you can switch most of the crap off and it'll stay off. But get it while it's hot though, because when the next gen one comes out you probably won't be able to.

We tried to focus more on the differences between the Mr and mv not focus on the negatives or faults, Mitsubishi stated they were aware and it will be patched in the first service, but we think it’s a dangerous feature as we spent more time looking down trying to clear it and been alarmed by a constant noise/ code on screen. If it doesn’t work efficiently then don’t implement it. The rumour going around is the Tasman will have the 2.2 diesel engine, but not official.
