This animation explains the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technique and its limitation in repairing genetic disorders in non-division cells. Then it introduces a new gene-editing technique (Targeted-RecA Enhanced homology-Directed repair, or TRED) developed by the research teams of the University of Science and Technology of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences. With this new technique, the teams demonstrate that they could restore vision of blind mice with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disease also affects humans.
