75% of truck owners tow something 1 time or less per year. Of the remaining 25%, many of those people would not ever need to tow something further than the range of their truck. The notion that most people buy trucks to tow things over long distances is false, and that is why you are wrong.

Electric trucks are USELESS if you actually USE them to tow or haul anything. You instantly lose 1/3 to 1/2 of the driving range. If you are going to tow your camper or boat on vacation you just doubled the amount of time it will take to get somewhere while you stop to charge every 150 miles, less if you are in hilly terrain. If you are a contractor and tow a trailer and have stuff in the bed EVERY DAY you lose so much range again. THIS is the big obstacle of owning an electric truck if you actually use the truck for what it was built for.

The day they can get 700+ km on a charge and fully charge within 30 minutes is the day I’ll consider an ev. A road trip to my hometown takes long enough when I only have to stop for 10 minutes to fill up with gas let alone having to sit for almost as long as I’ve driven for it to charge again. Gas stations along the highways can be busy enough as it is but imagine if everyone started driving Evs and having to sit for hours to charge! Even if chargers were added the wait time would keep the chargers occupied and people lined up waiting to use them. To drive home it’s about a 2000 km drive, my Impala gets 700-800 highway km on a full tank which takes less than 10 minutes to fill And it still takes over 24 hours to get there! I could only imagine how long that trip would take with an ev.

The vehicle doesn't seem to take advantage of the EV drivetrain. It just makes that Truck shape without thinking what a truck is used for and how an EV platform enhances it. There are 2 big, missed opportunities here. 1: Why does it need a big hood? There is no 6.2L V8 underneath it. There is no 10-speed transmission. By pushing the cab forward, they would have a shorter overall length or longer bed. The vehicle would have better visibility. 2: Why is the bed height so high? Most beds on trucks have gotten progressively taller for the last 2 decades making it less accessible or useless. There is no axle, so there is no need for the cab height to be so high. All EVs have proven to be terrible offroad so there is no need for the ground clearance.

The deal breaker for me is replacing the battery and charge time. Batteries cost $20,000 give or take, charge time is 20 to 30 minutes for an 80% fast charge and 45 minutes to an hour for a full charge. My truck takes 15 minutes to fill from empty. F150 and Rivian both were tested towing, a 65 mustang for the Ford and a boat for the Rivian. Neither went more than 90 miles before needing charged. Do you think anyone who depends on their truck is going to buy a battery powered toy? Not this guy. Before you say I'm hating on battery powered trucks, ask yourself this. Almost everyone there has at least 2 working adults per house and I know of one house on my street that has 4 working adults. On my street there 28 houses and there are 9 EVs. And none of those houses only own EV’s. EV’s are just becoming a normal part of life there. And these people are not wealthy elites. If US Automakers will ever want to make e-cars available to the masses, they need to think $20,000.00 US Dollars. They have the ability to do it, not the desire. A $107,000.00 truck is well out of reach of the general public. Ford Motor Company made vehicles for the masses and, after becoming billionaires, forgot who made them rich. GMC followed. As did Dodge. Tesla has departed from these big Three by progressively making vehicles more and more affordable. No wonder people admire and support this brand readily. Once the $25,000.00 Tesla is released, the masses will flock to them and the Big Three will have missed the boat. I, for one, can’t wait to see that day as I am prepared to make that purchase the very day it goes on sale!!!

@@micwynn9618 I have a GMC Hummer EV and it has a 3000lb battery. It has a 7500lb tow rating and I pulled my 27’ boat 500 miles. It weighs around 7500lbs. Range when not towing is 329. Charging time at each stop is approximately 25-30mins. Charging percentage is 20-80%. When at a 100% it gets 230 miles towing. But they only recommend charging to 80% with the fast charging. I don't know why they continue to make EV pickup trucks. As soon as you add a payload, or start towing something, it drastically reduces the range to the point of being essentially useless. If you never need to drive very far, then that's fine, but most people who actually use their pickup trucks for the purposes they were built would be throwing their money away with an EV pickup truck. Governments are going to have no choice but to either change, or rescind the laws restricting ICE vehicles, or societies are going to be changed to the point of drastically lowered living standards. Maybe that's their goal, after all!

What makes it so special? Well, the same thing as any other EV... And that's the fact that it'll auto ewaste itself in 6-8 years, 10 tops, if you never charge it. But, to those who have to rapid charge all the time, just to kinda sorta keep up with the gas and go of old, those folks will likely see it be ewaste in 5 years. So, brand new truck, six figures in price more or less, and it's done in 5ish years. Can't even sell it at that point, because the sled will be dead, and it'll be totalled. Even if perfect in all other ways, once that sleds dead, it's totalled.... that or you're out of pocketing some $40K plus to have it swapped. Take into effect that it'll only go about a hundred miles when towing, like all other ev trucks, and the whole picture is "special" for sure. Goodbye used car market.... hello BRAND NEW EV every 5-8 years. Just take that in... legit, you'll be spending six figures, and never even selling the prev unit, every 5-8 years. You could sell it in the first couple of years I guess, leaving the second owner with the auto totalled ewaste machine, but that's not nice... and an entire demographic of drivers, some 76% (those who rely on used, depreciated cars and trucks) will be literally eliminated, along with the used market itself. I hate all of this.. didn't think I did at first.. .. .. I like the performance, until even to this day, with as mature as the platform has become it still taking some 40m-1H + to get to 60% at most public chargers, the no mileage at all when towing, and the whole "people don't all have charging garages at home" issue. I mean, some folks park on the street, in parking garages, etc.... even me with my house would MAYBE allow for one of 3/4 cars to be charged, at best. So bye bye convenience and savings, you'll ALWAYS be at the "pump".... for hours, paying top dollar for those Kw. Just so the sled can either die in a few years, or offgas and explode like all of the phones these days. Great!!! But no one will EVER be looking to purchase an overpriced, used, EV... who's sled will take longer to charge than even before, which was never good to begin with... who's sled will ALSO only go a partial bit of the original distance, of which it never hit the max numbers anyway... none of them do. Literally NO EV has EVER hit it's max distance, not even close... it's like EPA fuel ratings but worse, just a totally fake number. So if this says 400 mile range, just imagine it's likely more like 275 unloaded, 100 or less towing, and in 3-4 years divide all of those by 2. As if your fuel tank is shrinking as it ages, in both capacity and charge rate... it'll take longer, and last less. And that's why no one will buy it used... because pretty soon it'll charge forever, and last none at all. At which point, it's totalled. And you can't even scrap it then, as it has hazardous waste in it, a ton of it... again, that sled. The thing that totalled your EV at the age that a gas car/truck would ONLY JUST be getting kinda almost broken in. And your EV will not only be at a net zero worth, but actually a net negative... as you'll have to pay hefty fees to dispose of it. Can't just crush or incinerate an EV, it's legit toxic. Lots of special care... so goodbye scrapyards, and the entire end of life auto industry too now. This should just end all sorts of industries, professions, and opportunities for all! Yaay!!! 76% of folks won't even be able to afford a car now, 20% will be buying new every 5ish years, and selling nothing at all to make up for it. And maybe 4% will be buying and selling slightly used EV's for a bit, until the novelty wears off, they realize it's a losing game and they all go bad after they waste their money on them, and then they'll become one of the other two groups. Either no longer driving, or buying new every few years. Yay EV's, you so well thought out! My recommendation, go out and buy GMT800/900, maybe even 400 if it's nice, used trucks... Or if you need a car instead, then pick your reliable used poison there. Put aside 1- a few of these units, in storage if need be.. and hold on to them for the future... Because the future is looking like a hot ball of the nastiest most ill thought out garbage possible.

You can’t pump gas without electricity. The thing about EVs is that they solve the grid problem, not worsen it. FPL is paying me to use my Lightning, with its bidirectional charging system, a a backup to the grid. And my house is set up to use it for up to ten day to run the house as a generator. It has 16 120 outlets plus one 30-amp 240. Does stuff no old school pickup ever dream about.
@msharp6887
@msharp6887 Жыл бұрын
@@dmfick18 yes u can pump gas without electricity, they all have manual secondary pumps. And on top of that most gas stations larger than a 1 or 2 pump mom and pop are equipped with diesel of gas generators……which makes a lot of sense considering they have like 30,000 gallons of fuel. Nice try though. And and “old school pickup “ has been able to function as a generator for decades. Its an aftermarket upgrade that is readily available and easy to install. Consists of a larger alternator, a secondary battery and the “generator” which runs off the serpentine belt. But again…..nice try
@dmfick18
@dmfick18 Жыл бұрын
They do NOT have manual secondary pumps. I have travelled around the world on a motorcycle and top to bottom of Africa, Proudhoe Bay to Ushuaia, and have come upon closed gas stations many times due to electrical outages. I have purchased black market gas from shady guys with jerry cans in mud road villages where the power had been out for days. The gas station was closed and there was no backup. Likewise there is no backup at a modern convenience station except the rare one with a backup generator. The manual backup concept is a fantasy - they did exist in the 1920s and 1930s, but not today.
