"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZfaq. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZfaq, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Closer to 330mil, but 22% of them are under 18 (~72mil) and can't vote. And even more who aren't eligible for president until 35. If you ask me, anyone between 35-45 wanting to run for president is too young with little to no experience unless they're elected to congress or senate for a while. So a big chunk of people are babies when it comes to politics.

Sadly, it is completely normal for a political party to run an incumbent with no opposition. It's been done like that for as long as I can remember, and possibly even further back. Genocide Joe has completely destroyed his image by not ending Israel's genocide/ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Some Americans will never admit the reason why we pay higher prices on everyday items, is because corporations are getting greedier, and greedier, because they are allowed to be greedier and greedier. You can point out all of the good things that have actually come from this administration, like the lowest interest of all the great nations, historically low unemployment, a record number of jobs brought back to the country, the somewhat friendly shift towards labor in this country, but they will never accept that it's actually not the president's fault that prices are high on many items. We have been groomed into accepting corporate greed as a necessity in this country, the corporations know it, and they exploit it.

How is this the least bit unexpected? My expectations haven't changed at all lol Biden is awful on Israel, but no worse than trump would be by trump's own admission. And it's arguably trump's foreign policy that emboldened hamas and Israel in different ways. My math on who to vote for is on who's generally better on foreign policy, green energy, civil rights, the courts, and labor. And that, unfortunately is Biden (somehow by a long shot). It sucks, but we really don't want 4 more years of trump.

You know what this political system, constitution ANY government needs? 3 things: 1. Age limits 2. Term limits 3. An overarching competency test that shows any 'leader' understands the interrelation between science, technology, economics, foreign policy, domestic policy, human behavior, ethics and the health of a society. Essentially we need a TEST that proves anyone 'in charge' are OBJECTIVE SYSTEMIC THINKERS in office who approach society as an organic 'system of systems' and will act in ethical fashions to put the health and stability of the society FIRST. Think about it - so many jobs like doctors and engineers require certifications and/or degrees to provide some sort of baseline competency - the system we have now is just insider, good ole boy, buy your way, cutthroat financially corrupted system full of childish incompetent grifters. We live in the age of internet, AI and automation and the system we have now is based on indentured servitude, gold, silver and sailboat/artisan economics DOES NOT WORK! Our government needs an upgrade to MODERN REALITY!

Kyle said there's no precedent for what NH is doing. That is not true: in 2008 FL and MI were threatened with loss of delegates due to not playing ball with DNC over primary date changes. In the end, at the convention, ALL FL and MI delegates counted 100%. Based on that plus the fact that in NH it's STATE LAW that we go first, not counting our delegates would likely be challenged in court and I think they'd win. So IMO it's negligence that mainstream media isn't reporting this accurately. MSNBC is completely ignoring the Dem primary and giving it no coverage.

Let's be real. Biden is not as hated as as a candidate as Hillary Clinton was. I think that's not difficult to understand. But Biden is disliked for relatively similar reasons from the politically-minded. We all want better, and being handed the same compromises over and over from people who have been in politics for so long that they're not really in touch anymore isn't desirable. He's still far more preferable than Trump, but you can't blame people for feeling frustrated. You just hope that they can put that aside and do the right thing, even though they're sick of being asked to pick the least bad of two choices they don't want. We both need people to actually go out and vote at the lower levels and make a real grass roots movement, and we need the corrupt dinosaurs to stop impeding progress just so they can play the same games they've been playing for decades.

What if South Carolina passes a law that they should be the first primary? Personally, I think that California should be the first primary followed in order of population Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania. All of these big states are diverse in race and age. Besides large cities, they all, except maybe Florida, have large rural areas, especially the first two. Thus, the tone of a primary season would be set by populations that look like the whole of the country.

Romney was born in 1907 in Mexico it was not a territory or part of the U.S.A. at the time. Mexico was not a territory or part of the U.S.A. then.He ran for president in 1968. Barry Goldwater was born in Phoenix in 1908.This was when Arizona was not a territory or a state.Arizona became a state in 1912.He ran for president in 1964.

McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone, which at the time was American territory.

@@ncbentle9154It wasn't. John McCain was a natural born citizen because at least one of his parents were U.S. citizens at the time of his birth, like Ted Cruz but not like Cenk Uygur.

@@kjhuang You're correct concerning his parents. However the Panama Canal zone was under the control of the U.S. until 1977.

@@richardswift3859 it says natural born, not native born. This can happen by being born in the United States or its' territories, or by being born to an American citizen.

The whole primary system is screwed up. You have a tiny percentage of people in low population states deciding who becomes a presidential candidate? In Iowa there were just slightly over 100k voters participating in the primary. Why not start in Texas, California, and Florida, or other higher population states? Cost savings for the campaigns?

My state always goes last in the primaries, despite being extremely racially/ethnically diverse and having a moderately large economy + population. 🙄

-How? He predicted Trump 55% and Haley 45%.- -Trump won 54.3% (0.7% off) and Haley won 43.2% (1.8% off).- -He was absolutely spot on. How was he "way off"?- Edit: Nevermind, I got to the part where he predicts the D primary lmfao.
