Ngl but that happened to my 6 foot long aircraft carrier and it split in two and is still at the bottom sunk and I cant get to it because its 120 feet down

The guns are set up so that 90 aims 90 degrees to port and -90 is 90 degrees to starboard. If you want to aim based on a compass bearing, take the ships numerical heading (say 180) measure the compass bearing to the target (say 155) and then subtract that. In this case it would be 25. If you reversed that scenario and had the ship on a heading of 155 and the target at 180 it would come out to -25. That should work for turret A and B. Turret Y would be similar, but you'd need the inverse to the ships heading. In our previous case Turret Y would be facing 0 for a ship on a heading of 180 or 335 for heading of 155. You'd have to do the same math with the compass bearing after that. I will note that since there is no central fire control director and each turret faces the bearing exactly, this method works best if you take 3 compass bearings, one from the center of each turret. Some logic could likely be designed to do all this math for you, and a central fire control director with an infrared laser rangefinder, a compass sensor and a bit of math to calculate the difference in target bearing for each turret would be helpful. I can't imagine it'll be long before effective fire control systems and gun directors start popping up on the workshop.

@Spencer Littrel are you by chance the Creator of the USS Baltimore (CA-68), lead ship of the Baltimore-class Heavy Cruisers? Props to you for even Building her, I thought that it wouldn't be possible. If you did build her, did you do it in Creative?

@@jamesscalzo3033 I am not the creator, but I am quite familiar with fire control systems both in the real world and in Stormworks. I used to be a volunteer on the USS North Carolina and spent a LOT of time studying her fire control systems and gun directors.

@@MrTitanicfanatic2 actually it’s not that realistic, it just takes an input between 1 & -1 and outputs it to the robotic pivot which turns it 90 degrees to positive / negative coord

Technically we do, but you need to use a lot of buttons and logic (and mathematical stuff for various reasons) built into the creations

Loved the video @Frantic! I don't mean to bite your head off or anything but The USS Baltimore (CA-68) is a Heavy Cruiser, the lead ship of her class at that as well! She was the last ship in the U.S. Navy Built with the Mark 12 8"/55 Caliber gun Mounts as her 13 sisters all were completed with the lighter weight and simplified Mark 15 Mounts. The Baltimore's also, like many other Cruisers and even the Actual Battleships, had 6 Twin 5"/38 Caliber guns for their Secondary Armament. They also had an Anti-Aircraft Arrangement of 12 Quad mount 40 millimeter Bofors and 24 Single 20 millimeter Oerlikons, a top speed of 33 knots (38 mph), 2 Aircraft Catapults at the Stern/Back and 2 Cranes for the First Four Ships of the class (Baltimore (68), Boston (69), Canberra (70) and Quincy (71)) while the Later 10 ships just had 1 Crane to service the 4 Vought OS2U Kingfisher Observer Floatplanes that were in a hangar in the Stern, just Aft/Behind the Y-turret. I'm actually re-working the Forces for the Landings at Donkk and the Liberation of Spycakes Terminal, if you've seen my comment on @Camodo Gaming's "Going to WAR with the Weapons DLC" video from a week ago and I'm considering including the USS Baltimore (CA-68) as part of the Naval Group that is supposed to provide Anti-Aircraft Protection from the AI Aircraft along with Naval Gunfire Support/OffShore Fire Support for the Troops and equipment landing at Donkk. For now, I'd love to see how the USS Baltimore and the DKM Prinz Eugen of the German Kriegsmarine's Admiral Hipper-class Heavy Cruisers would fair out, basically, who would win? And this will be a Search and Destroy Battle, meaning that neither ship will know where the other is unless they get picked up on radar or something. Frantic, it's not a bug it's a feature. . . .but no just go off of the old notion of any WWII American ship that bears the name of a state is a battleship. If it bears the name of a city it's a cruiser. If it bears the the surname of an admiral, general, or overall important person it's either a destroyer or carrier. If it bears the name of a place of historical significance or the name of a US President, it's going to be a carrier. That's a good general rule of thumb that you can apply when presented with a WWII American warship. But you could probably have fun with the 105mm quickfire field gun I posted recently. It's pretty fun and easy to use. It's kind of archaic in the sense that you use your own power to push it into place, but 20 rnds per minute ain't too shabby.

Frantic! To operate the big guns the right way and to have them in the right direction. You need to do math. So let’s say your target is at 230 degrees. So you know there is 360 degrees all around. Do 360 - 230 = 130. You know the gun turns 90 or -90 degrees so do 130-90= 40 and you turn your guns 40 or -40 degrees. If the awnser is over 90 then it’s not a possible shot. Reposition and try again.Take my advice and do the math. Try it out in a later video. Maybe even a shoutout.

The direction on the compass is relative to the earth's poles. The direction on the guns is relative to the ship's orientation. Not sure how you didn't catch that.
