I am pleased you are making good progress. It is interesting that you have to be mindful about how you walk

Hello Joseph, Thanks, it's all going better than I imagined... I feel sure after a while walking correctly will comeback and I won't need the mindfulness... Take care. Paul,,

Sounds like your approach is paying off in following the instructions given to you! Must be a bit of a challenge to restrain yourself from pushing the boundaries - fingers crossed you get a result you’re pleased with!! 🤞 And on to the next week…best of luck with it!

Hello Miriam, I am making far better progress than I imagined... The walking I just increased the distance most days until I got to the 2 mile marker. Today I dropped the distance back to 0.5 of a mile and did the walk without any crutches. I will slowly build this up again. Thanks for your support. Take care. Paul,,

I had a cycling accident back in Nov-2022 and broke my femoral neck which resulted in me having a total hip replacement 48 hours later. I spent a week in hospital and they used glue rather than stiches. The swelling was not as bad as your experience and I was back on my Brompton on 26-Jan-2023 about 2 months later. I do not think you will ever get back to 100% of the person you once were, your implant is an alien object and not a living thing like bone - your body will remind you of that from time to time. It took me about 6 months to feel about 85% of my previous self and I am currently doing the Chilterns Cycleway on my e-bike in 30 mile stages. I am relatively content with that.

Hello Raymond, Thanks for letting us know your story... which is far worse than my experience as you've had not time to plan... It sounds like you are doing really well and and enjoying your bike again. I guess everyone are individual with regard to recovery and I am quite early doors and and have not tried to push myself. The only reason I mentioned trying to get back to 100% is a theory I have on Logotherapy and getting older, I will make a video about it sometime in the future. Take care. Paul,,

Hi Paul, Thanks for the update, you are certainly looking well rested even if perhaps you dont feel it. It does sound like a hard job having to sleep in that posture. A few years ago I had an unfortunate accident with a bull which left me with a dislocated elbow (thats a story for another time!!) but anyway The doctors insisted that I moved it almost straight away and it was very painfull to do so. Eventually I developed a method to record the angle of movement of my elbow and was able to plot it on a graph, the doctors were astounded when they saw what I had done, but to you or me it would be the logical thing to do!! I know you need to be careful whilst the new joint is settling just thought it might give you an idea for when you can start to do more. Have a great week!!

Hello David, The sleeping continues to be a bit of a problem, it will be handy when the weather cools a little to see how much that is contributing to the problem. Fun with a Bull is interesting... I am recording all my walks on Strava and can see when I start to slow down, etc. The good news is over the last few days my resting heart rate is starting to get back to normal, which I am really pleased to see. Thanks for checking in, see you on the next one. Take care. Paul,,

It all sounds very encouraging Paul. I get a lot of pain in my hips after Karate. Been to the physio a couple of times and he says there is nothing wrong with my joints so it must be soft tissue issues (inflammation). If I stay off karate a couple of weeks my hips settle down and I can run a couple of miles no problem so probably the physio is right. I don't want to give up karate, so it's a nuisance. Maybe they will settle down again in time; I've had that before, 6 months of pain then it just goes away. Don't get older, that's the key message. Cheers

Hello Paul, I am super pleased with the progress... I have seen both physio and consultant at the hospital in the last week or so and they are happy with the progress... Your troubles sound really annoying, like most things as we age I think we just need to manage the situation rather then start giving up doing things we love. I am of the view that getting old is a privilege, as I know of many people who have not made it to old age... Thanks as always for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Well done Paul, but I have a question ! The whites of your eyes are impressively clear, the sports clothes drying on the radiator adapter thing suggest a sporty existence. You look under weight rather than over. So why would a clean living man like you need a hip replacement ?

Hello David, When editing the video I also noticed that my eyes were clear, not sure why really... I have been a cyclist off and on all my life and plan to ride the bike again once the hip has healed fully. I have purposefully lost weight prior to the operation and am in the middle of the BMI for my height. The right hip is in really good condition, I am not sure why the left one got arthritis. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
