It is Tampa Bay’s most traveled bridge, and part of it is being replaced. If you have driven over the Howard Frankland Bridge recently, you have undoubtedly seen the giant cranes. Construction is happening now to build a brand new eight-lane span of the bridge.
There is a lot going on right now that is vital to the construction that you do not see from the road. FOX 13 News got a behind-the-scenes look at the $864-million project.

As wonderful as these lane expansions are, I just wish we had better public transportation options for those of use who commute over it daily.

Their could be a train also there was a road that went from hills borough to pasco it took them many years to agree to build the toad because no one wanted to pay for it so public transportation will be hard

Instead of knocking the northbound bridge why can’t that just be the pedestrian path, rather than have it next to cars doin 80+? Make some use out of it.

It's not structurally sound, too old to support pedestrians. Just like the old 7 mile bridge, pretty sure you aren't allowed on it anymore.

That’s what I’m saying. Use as a pedestrian path or for traffic to airport and such.

They can't keep the Tampa bridge because if they made it for the airport they would have to redo the I 275 north bound highway

It was made off of greedy construction that actively reduced its lifespan, so I’d say it is a pice of crap that should go.

Considering it was built extremely cheap, 60 years sounds like what was coming to it.

*Why 8 lane. It's already 8 lane. and they adding 4 toll lanes. Damn greedy. Why not make 12 lane or 10 lane at least with the crazy population increase. It probably cost a lot less to add an extra 1 lane to each side than to start from scratch.*

@Blaze6432 I-64 widening in Newport News and Williamsburg va really helped it used to be 2 lanes in each direction, not its 3 lanes in each direction 4 in total there used to be major backups but now there not so I wouldn't say *it hardly helps* because it some areas it really helps

Why not get on the council and make those changes happen since you're so smart. Tolls being charged for new expensive bridges isn't a new concept. And the old bridge is 15 years short of its intended lifespan

Why demolish the old bridge give the fishermen something! Geez! What idiots they could make money off the old bridge like the skyway fishing pier. I guess the cashflow from kickbacks to demolish will faster than collecting entrance fees.
