A discussion on HS2 from a construction industry point of view. We talk about the benefits for local companies and the wider UK economy, whilst accompanying Daniel Louisy on an aggregate delivery to a HS2 site.
High Speed 2 also known as HS2 is a new speed train link that will link up all the major cities in the UK. Construction of first phase is under way and Ashville are supplying material.

@@homer5103 Basically mate I agree with what they are trying to achieve I just don't agree with the way they are doing it. The UK already has plenty of railway that more than likely could be upgraded to achieve the same goal without the cons of HS2. HS2 will go through multiple protected wildlife areas (I'm not sure if that's the proper name for those areas) and I'm sure some of those protected areas are used for wildlife research. If you look on Google or KZfaq you can probably find videos explaining the cons of HS2. Where are you from mate?

Personally, I think HS2 is a good thing. It will mean Engineers like me will be given the chance at a lifetime of growth in both educational and employment fields. Not to mention the opportunity its currently giving thousands of skilled trades people. Also, it appears thats your business is actually a stones throw from my house! How strange! Keep up the good work, you've got a good thing going on here.

Once you ride on the ICE or TGV you understand the specific need the UK has to get HS2 up and running. The speed at which those trains get you hundreds of miles is insane. It feels like we're half a century behind other countries in Europe. Another point of note is that Dutch roads, transport infrastructure and construction are insanely efficient and even years ahead of Germany & France imho, truly world leading. They leverage the ICE/Thalys trains regularly for trans-european travel and although they don't have any high speed routes (the country is too small to demand it) you're regularly faster than cars on the long distance routes. We could learn a thing or two from our brothers in NL.
@kinze2010
@kinze2010 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the other day in a way we founded other European country's high speed rails by bombing them in ww2. I know its strange to think of it like that but we did help give them a clean sheet to build new while here in the UK we carried on putting plasters on a Victorian railway and it costs more to keep updating it than just building new

QuantumPhysics4u .. a project that will take 125 years to be carbon neutral .. yeah, brilliant (not). When will people realise it’s the biggest White Elephant this country has ever seen ? Ticket prices will be insane & the only people to benefit will be the CEO’s of the construction companies & Tory ministers with their fingers in the pie. As recently as May, the Governments own Public Accounts Committee produced a damning report on the project .. basically saying that it would NEVER offer value for money & the environmental damage was totally unacceptable. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that within 2 years, despite billions already having been spent, the whole project will be mothballed because of spiralling costs that will be totally unsustainable.

@@CRIMSONANT1 lol. Calm down satan. They won't stop hs2. The benefits are un paralleld. It will create thousands of jobs and take thousands of lorries off of the road. They are using low carbon concrete. The train line cost is minimal. The great western mainline has been around for 180 years and isn't going anywhere yet. If work out the cost of hs2 over 180 years. It's suddenly not that much money I cant say it's perfect it has more holes than a pasta strainer. But it's better than infrastructure that's almost 2 centuries old.

Great Video, and EXTREMELY informative. However, I do not feel there was a need to be "apologetic" for HS2, it does detract from the good work you guys and others are doing. Whilst indeed there are many "loud" people critisizing it, there are equally as many who do support it, and more importantly understand the need for it (Mainly capacity, and the real benefits it will give on other lines such as the WCML once fast trains are taken away). Remember similar arguments came against HS1, and Crossrail/Elizabeth lines too, yet today the engineering and utility of these lines are appreciated and will be for years to come. In fact it is rare that after a line is created that many regret it once they taste it.

HS2, in my opinion doesn't go far enough. As a regular rail traveller, we need a vast investment in ALL forms of public transport otherwise this country will grind to a halt in 10 years. People need to realise that the world of humans has to evolve and grow. Well done daniel but also mention that HS2 is also the largest Archaeological dig EVER...... when were done we'll know even more about the UK's historical past.
