I will be interested in robotics, once we see a robot getting the instruction "make coffee" going into a house its never been in before (ideally one that's extremely untidy), finds the utilities to make coffee, prepares it and puts a cup of it on the table. I don't know who suggested this test back when, but someone decided this to be their personal AGI indicator test and I think it demonstrates a lot of important abilities which show fitness for real-world operation.

At an eye watering price point no doubt. Don't get me wrong, I would have my doubts about having a robot doing tasks in my house unless it was 100% localised with no or limited internet access, but honestly, that would be the case for a robot from the US or anywhere else, otherwise, it's easy to see how having a robot in the house that has back and forth communication to the company or even the government would be a major invasion of privacy, and that's the case whether it's a US or Chinese company. It isn't that different to A.I. models now, the more useful they become, the fewer of us that will want to use online models and would prefer to use 100% locally run models for security and privacy reasons, I expect the same will be the case for robotics if they really want a lot of us to adopt them.

I feel impressed by those advances in robotics. Many people believe it's fake, but knowing how AI can learn anything, I am not as sceptic. The future where there will be those robots of many forms all around us, doing various tasks humans used to do, is just around the corner. What we see here is just the beginning, and in few years, having a robot at home will be as common as having an automatic lawnmower. Of course, it won't be globally available for all humans around the earth though. Robotics has nonetheless a good future it seems, as a discipline. It is a hint for those in search of valuable knowledge to study. We are on the verge of something revolutionary, in few years only, I'm really on a position where I believe those AIs and robots can bring peace and prosperity to the world, maybe help those in need, so it's a necessary step in our society evolution. House holding is not the main target for such robots, I believe we need robots able to plant trees, to do agriculture, to route water to deserted places, to repair or build houses, cities, in a responsible and eco-friendly way, to have a real impact on places where it's really needed, and to help biodiversity in a way that reverses the harmful impact we've done on climate by polluting so much. Those robots could be deployed all around the world and quickly enhance the quality of life of many people. Those robots which gather trash from nature are an example of such needed robots, imagine the job 10 of those robots, if able to automatically recharge themselves, and work day and night, can do, in a single year. It's just mind blowing. And the fact that robots can function day and night is for me the most important to take into account and what will make them much more useful that commanding humans for doing a task that one or many robots can do faster and better, without putting humans in dangerous situations. Imagine deploying a group of robots, each specialized, into places where they can create from dust a new city, with plants, water flows, agriculture for self sustain, energy systems, houses and much more, then displace them to another place, this city could be created much faster than we think, and many people could have a place to live peacefully instead of suffering tough conditions. This all perspective really fascinates me, and I'm glad to be alive in such a time in history, it's up to us to not empower wars, and bring peace with technology, I'm pretty sure that we can do it. I believe in us !

What if robot used motion blending from unreal engine and used ai to run scripts or algorithms to make robot act like a human ? If everything was a motion script, if every task was a cycle of movements that the character did, such as hand movement or dancing , walking, drawing, writing ect. And we have no idea about the 1X Neo flexibility which - according to the CEO - is already tested. Not talking Astribot down here, just pointing out some flaws in the argument. The race is on, though - and I look forward to spend some money in 2025 on a robot. It may not be as good as people expect, doing not more than vaccuming the floor or putting dishes away at the start, but as Tesla FSD has shown - once it is out, and an AI, training can result in capabilities basically weekly. Time change. The time for human work has come - the clock is ticking. We just do not know how long the countdown is, but it is is ticking.

I don’t need him to do any of that. Can he clean the bathroom ?

Most likely, as what he demonstrated is more dextrous than cleaning the bathroom.

I agree these are very likely pre-programmed set of sequences, the video has been highly edited, they've snapshot several different environmental scenarios which they had definitely already pre staged. And as far as smoothness goes I've seen robots in production and manufacturing environments that are just as smooth, and much faster than this. If you've ever seen a surface mount robot for motherboards blows this robot away. I'm not super impressed,, yes it's nice but it's not mind blowing.

One doesn't know how many takes they filmed before it got it right and is there someone off camera controlling it or copying a human's movement in real time? Look how many fails the Atlas 1 had. I'm skeptical but hopeful.

Asea industrial robots have done this for 25 years with ultra precision in the industry. I bet this is preprogrammed the same way. Or Sora generated it all :)

I think the difference is this robot is general purpose and can self-locomate.

The funny thing is that in future it will be statistically safer to have an AI operate on a brain tumor, for example, than a human. Nevertheless, I am irrationally more afraid of an AI making pudding out of my brain than a human doc.
