I always love watching these corn picking videos, and you do a great job with the camera!

Thank you. I try for the creative angles.

I had a 323 when I started farming 40 years ago. Then I got a 319 two row mounted picker on a Super M. That thing would really pick corn but running it was a filthy job! I've had a couple of 324s, I like them.
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
Mounted pickers put you right in the middle of the mess. Dad bought ours probably 20 years ago or more. He said it never saw the inside of a barn until he bought it. They are tough old machines.

Love Your videos 👍😀 Don't know date of this field work, but last weekend the south did get hit with storms . Everyone is done harvesting and looking at the flowers on the walls .Yeah 😁 Your videos are a knock down punch , home runs out of the park . I myself would prefer a 2 row picker , but don't stop for hell or high water 😁

We have been ,ucky to miss most of the snow. But can't catch a break on repairs.

Nice footage... farming 1950's/60's style! BUT hey, it works! If a guy can make a buck at it it's all good! Later and KUTGW! OL J R :)

You need a heat houser on the tractor!! Boy I would take some of your moisture back here!! We're dry as heck here on top! Wheat looks like crap! Sure enjoy the videos! Wish I was closer, I'd look u up and enjoy picking corn in real time!! Keep the good videos coming......
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
A heat houser would be nice, but I was never cold. I'll gladly give you some water. I have seriously thought why no one has put up a pipeline to take our excess water.
@bigDH1236 жыл бұрын
My fingers are crossed for you to get all your corn off Jacob. Too bad it wouldn't freeze solid for you so you don't have to deal with the mud. keep us posted.
@fredf33916 жыл бұрын
big D fan fingers crossed 👎 My wife and me prayed for good weather so everyone would get there harvest in Yes we farm and I work off the farm we like medium size oh we got done with corn around the Frist

I'd take mud over break downs.
@banditfarmer19006 жыл бұрын
Nothing better than picking corn in the mud ! LOL But it never fails that you end up doing it that way. Great camera work JB, I kept waiting for the camera to fall off and go threw the picker ! LOL Wouldn't that been a great video, How corn feels being picked ! Bandit

I was trying to tackle the wet spots with and empty wagon behind me. I try to keep the camera in safe spots.
@jrbpa57756 жыл бұрын
Glad your getting some corn taken off. It looks like the hybrid corn of today doesn’t hold up to the corn picker to well. Lot of the tops breaking off compared to corn of years ago but farming does change. Good luck!!!
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
The stalks are very dry. When I was picking earlier, the wetter stalks were easy work.
@rustyoldjunk6 жыл бұрын
Dry cold stalks cause problems with any picker, I think. I was having problems with frozen stalks getting sideways between the snapping rolls and plugging the apron chain that brings the ears to the husking bed on my 327 this year. But before it froze, the ground was too greasy. Can’t win, although I agree that pickers seem to prefer wetter corn,. Cool video. I like that old Ford picker, I never knew they made them.
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
That picker is one of the few implements Ford made themselves. And the sheet metal reflects the car styling.
@rustyoldjunk6 жыл бұрын
Boehm Farm so would that have been sold new with the hundred series? I know you mentioned in a previous video it was designed for an older series?
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
Some of these were red, so yes, the hundreds and four cyclinder 2/4ooos, and the early thousands.
@larsonvalleyfarm6 жыл бұрын
Good times! I borrowed a New Idea 323 a couple years ago to see if it would work better in 30 inch row corn than my 324 does, I was not impressed. Under the snap rolls it would plug tight. What a pain to dig out constantly. I think its the narrow channel that is the flaw.... Looks like your camera was getting beat up on the first angle! Lol
@fredf33916 жыл бұрын
larsonvalleyfarm Them 300 JD pickers you could put 2row wide and 3row narrow head's but you didn't have the capacity in the back for cleaning . Seed corn harvest be good but husk stay on ,. You got snow,years ago run eggs up to SV in Green Bay then go over to Portage for cheese back to city (Chicago) stay warm 😁
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
Yes, that stupid narrow channel under the rollers. That's why I want to move that old new idea. I have dealt with our old cantankerous picker long enough to know when it's a bout to be really plugged underneath. I stop and back so the stubble will pull the stalks out.
@richardcleasby1056 жыл бұрын
Can put rubber strips on snapping roles
@conortimm7336 жыл бұрын
larsonvalleyfarm I️ see a lot of people consolidating about that narrow channel and I️ can’t see what you’re talking about. We’ve had are picker for over a decade and haven’t had that problem ever.
@larsonvalleyfarm6 жыл бұрын
Conor timm do you have a 323 picker? My neighbor has a 323 and a 311 I believe. The 323 is the only one with this problem
@jonathanmccroskey36596 жыл бұрын
Jacob, sure would like to you weld on those Ford picker rollers. Hate watching you lean over in the mouth of that picker while it is running. But I guess who am I to say, you seem not to mind and you get the job done. I really enjoyed this video. Again, it brings back good times for myself. Thanks!!
@fredf33916 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Mccroskey who am I. You right but this video is not live 😁 so no 1got pulled into picker accidents happen ,but they never happy to me 😁 isn't that what they say 😁

Just a bit of practice with getting out of muddy situations, just rock it back and forth.
@pete566 жыл бұрын
Back in the 60's my grampa lost half of his left arm in the rollers on his New Idea picker. The dairy farmer that I worked for in the 70's had done the same thing. Happens real fast, be careful.

young jake keeps pushing corn stalks in the gathering chains and rollers on that worn out little ford toy picker , he's going to go home for dinner and say , " look mom no hands " . Jesus this kid is an accident going someplace to happen . Good luck jocko you are going to need it . I seriously hope he doesn't have to change his name to ONE ARM JACOB !
@defuse562 жыл бұрын
@@bryancovert9821 What alot of guys don't realize is that, if you hold the end of a cornstalk and use it to clear the rollers, the machine can yank the stalk (and your arm) in so fast that you don't have time to let go of it. The only safe way is to shut everything down before you touch the picker.

When you sell ear corn do you grind for the customer and if so what is the going price
@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын
I try for as little work as possible on that end, so I hope it's going out whole. I charge $.50/bushel to grind and a couple quarters more if they need it bagged.
@coreytrout38576 жыл бұрын
Boehm Farm I've sold a little bit before but I usually feed up all mine to heifers there was an older gentleman that used to sell to the public and anytime someone would say,, I'd like mine bagged he'd reply I'll bet you would lol

@boehmfarm42766 жыл бұрын

Cam Kenimer cold start, warm start, hot start. Just plug them in I deliver groceries in 18 wheeler and farm We plug our tractors in and when it get really cold we just let them run 24 hrs . Cold start just like starting gas car or truck no difference Oh it the noise of the diesel motor that turns people on and the smoke Give me a break
@camkenimer52796 жыл бұрын
So what's your point? I wasn't suggesting a cold start; I was suggesting these guys to go look at a combine for sale. Apparently several others suggested that as well
@fredf33916 жыл бұрын
Cam Kenimer There equipment is quite used👍 So he gets equipment that is better then what they got . Salvage yard buy up good equipment to sell parts My neighbor and I farmed like that years ago I fix the issues by getting a job off the farm and was able to up grade and buy more land He got killed in a farm accident .I don't have any ideas about this channel
