In this exciting tutorial we take the new mesh to volume modifier and use it to create a cool hologram effect that will work with any mesh! We cover some cool tricks for creating volume shaders and how to get volumes to glow while staying within the mesh bounds of the reference object! Let's get started :-)

@@CBaileyFilm I am on an 8gb ram Dell Inspsirion right now lol. Ordered a 32gig Ram,Gtx 2060 Alienware with liquid cooling and 6 core processor. Whole new world for me :)

Make sure you type ‘density’ in lower case in Attribute, not ‘Density’ or it doesn’t work.

Very nice tutorial, thank you for sharing. I threw a wireframe modifier over the ship which made it look cooler, but maybe just a glowing wireframe model is cleaner. But if I make the cone bigger , so it spreads out the view on the object and put a wireframe glowing object in it can do it. Is it possible to change the density of a glow the further you go up in the Z direction? Like it starts at a deepgreen volume and further up the Z it is more lighter? But again thank you for this tutorial.

That’s a great idea! Yes you could make a gradual glow using a gradient ramp node a texture coordinate node and a mapping node going into a colour ramp. Use the mapping node to tun the gradient in the right direction then use a mixRGB node and multiply the gradient with the other nodes going into emission strength. That would do it. I made this seperately and it worked flawlessly, but when I append into a project and resize, it seems to break the entire projection. Anyway to fix do you know?

In cycles you can just put emission shader to volume output of you object material.
