Job to go wrong with good old shepherds or cottage pie and that looks a nice one , cottage pie is my go to meal and the freezer is always well stocked with both, I’m 86 and can’t always get out so they are a godsend with a bit of broccoli peas and carrots on the side and lashing of thick beef gravy.

That looks proper good. Filled my freezer with £20 worth of meat from our local butcher yesterday. Chicken, Pork, Sausages, bacon, burgers, minced beef - a staggering amount of scran for the money (should see me through for a few weeks as the missus is a veggie!) Looks like I may be opting for the homemade 'Cottage Pie' option, unless I pay them another visit.... Or go to Aldi 😊

Hi Gareth from Spain where is is partly sunny and mostly cloudy. 17°. It doesn't look bad at all, although that's a lot of gravy for the amount of meat - I prefer mine to be a little drier so that is how I make them. It is still a left over meal as far as I am concerned - it's what you make with the left over meat from a Sunday roast

My favourite i like to cook is, 500gms beef mince cooked brown and drain fat off, add chopped onion and an oxo cube and cook stirring on gentle heat till onion is cooked. I then add shredded carrot, a half tin of peas, chopped baked fresh honey roast parsnips, chopped small fried red pepper and a tin of Branston baked beans. Add 600ml beef stock gravy and gently bring to boil and simmer. I then add salt to season and taste as it cooks. Add creamy mash over top in the dish with a nice coating of extra mature cheese and cook for 25min fan oven 180 middle shelf. I would also use the same ingredients without the topping etc for another meal but add chunks of sweet potato to it and serve up in a homemade batter pud cooked in an 8-inch deep round tin which I'm very good at.

£3.49? Not really a bad price for a meal in todays market. It could have done with some more veg content though. Still, a bit of broccoli, cauliflower and peas and you have a decent meal. I've been using the water from my veg to make gravy for years! Not only does it save energy, but you get the goodness from the veg, which usually goes down the drain. I don't add salt to my veg, because the extra salt will end up in your gravy! EDIT: I bought the Aldi Chip Shop Pies, Chicken and Mushroom. They're in my freezer. For 50p more, you could've got a four gang 13 amp trailer socket from the middle aisle! 🤣

Gravy looks to be the saviour here, but how much water went into the pie in order to produce the yumminess (tech. term Gareth) that people will pay almost £8.75 per kg. for? Surely most of the cost is going to befall the delivery and handling charges? VBW x
