I bought the livonia bundle, but since they're making Livonia free and making a new map, the new map should be free to people who bought Livonia

@@thedirtyhalfdozen4269 TBH if Livonia is becoming free then the people who purchased it should be compensated in a respectable way. If they don't compensate the folks who paid for it that will cause some very upset players and will hurt the game. This has happened in the past with other companies so I hope its in consideration here.

iirc a while back BI was tweaking the temperature mechanics in the game which if true, lends more evidence to a snow map.

A move across fully to the new engine with the new DLC available for "next gen" PS/X and PC, while last gen PS/X supported only on current maps. Two maybe three years ago the devs were asked if they would support X / PS going forward and they said "for as long as possible" - my guess is that time is coming.

frostline is the depth to which underground water is expected to freeze. Doesn't sound like the name of a map, sounds like a gameplay mechanic.

@@Nitno it's also used in astrophysics to judge freezing distance. highly unlikely they would call a map "frostline". I think it could be a mechanic that introduces the freezing/snow to parts of the map dynamically depending on temperature as opposed to just having a frost map thats always frozen.

@@Nitno kinda but just for snow and not the whole map. translated to Czech it's “Mrazová čára” which is "the boundary where temperatures drop low enough for frost to form" so dynamic snow areas seems most likely. Which means it can add it to existing maps as well as the new one.

I'm wondering how hardcore the aim of the map will be. I've been expecting a rework of DeadAir since the theory was made a few months ago. It makes the most sense since Adam worked on that for Arma before it got abandoned.

Tinfoil hat time! But given that the term is often used to apply to cold weather gear, it lends more to argument that its a FROST map coming (they have confirmed a new map yes?) - that said, it could also be an internal server setting that allows you to set temps down to 'well below zero c' and to include snow, in as much as the server can add rain and fog manually. So might be a bit of both? Do they own TM on Chernarus and Livonia?

Could certainly be a bit of both! I suspect it's something BIG like a new map, because of inviting streamers from around the globe to the offices. I think it could also be programing on dynamic weather in different parts of the map.

They were developing a Norway map ages ago as a possible DayZ 2 - but this was binned when they closed the dev house that was working on it, so makes sense to grab them old assets and reuse.

Still holding out that Chernarus + will finally get it's slightly northern expansion into the Black Mountain range where the snow is... and then having snow start from the Ski Restort out West, to about Polyana on North, and making it super cold as soon as you touch the snow..... some of the Arma versions of Chernarus had this, as well as course as full Winter Chernarus, but the split biomes were always the best....doubt these bums have remembered or even thought about that though 😑🙄

Reading the comments and thinking about the size of announcement it seems to be, flying the streamers in, the name.. but especially looking at the type of updates we've been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if the name Frostline is a new game engine, which allows for more dynamic weather based on altitude with a new map to boost. I'm thinking new engine because they have been tweaking things like sound, while not addressing things like zombie AI, which possibly could be because of an engine limitation.. Thoughts?

It's a mixed bag. On DayOne Namalsk the cold and brutal setting certainly encourages teaming up. On the flip side, every fire you make there's a big risk you get ambushed.

The Namalsk dev is now the lead on Dev of DayZ. I think the reason they didn't is strictly because of copyright issues, they got inspiration for Namalsk from the Stalker games.

The "developer" of Namalsk is literally the Project Lead Developer of DayZ SA lol....he wasn't always, but he's been so since before he released this version of Namalsk on DayZ 😅 Edit: and he's repeatedly said he's not interested in selling off his personal, multi game project to BI, doubtful console guys could even play it with everything going on even though it's a tiny little map.

If they make such a huge ado about just adding a new map, one would have to ask politely - WTF???? There are almost monthly releases of user created maps and mods out there. If a map is such a huge thing for Bohemia - maybe outsource it to your community and then focus on the real important stuff - like raincoats that actually keep you dry :P

sorry not sorry but its a shame that day z has to rely on modders to make experience good. I feel like the developers have really been stalling the game. Vanilla game is nice but get boring quickly, new maps such as livonia is just purely "okay". and all the new updates all feel underwhelming at best.

Knowing bohemia its gunna be lackluster just like the sv98 they didn't even add a new scope for a long range exotic rifle 😂 plus on pc its worthless they already got unlimited maps that are good quality i don't know why they don't add a mod work shop like ASA so console can get supplied good content cuz bohemia obviously cant do there job i know why it's to much effort 😭

Arma Reforger, which will likely create DayZ 2, is built from the ground up to support mods on console. Doesn't help us now with DayZ but that's where the future is imo.
