@@slyfox1983 Come on, when has anyone in an airport been happy about a canceled or delay flight due to weather. More waiting in an airport, which no one wants, and dealing with the airline customer service through the phone or on-site, who never help. Not to mention the costs that comes with it delays and cancel flights cause airlines charge anything nowadays.

Ricky Vel The helicopter was traveling at 180MPH with apparently no distress call or indications anything was amiss. I’m confident they did not suffer and died instantly. Very sad but that brings some comfort.

This could have totally been avoided, the fog, lack of safety equipment, the authorities grounding their flights due to weather. The pilot should have never flown.

Nothing knew happens now and then with tour helicopters, and charters just had one of these a few months ago in Hawaii. The nature of a helicopter is that it can fly very slow what these pilots do is try to find a way though by flying slow a few MPH forward. This is a mistake it would be better to fly at 100 mph into IMC then they can transition to IFR. In slow flight any fast movement like going up vertically at 1400 FPM can induce sudden Spatial Disorientation. This make your inner ear think your banking when your not once lose control nothing can do to recover it. Some will land in parking lots or base ball fields to get out of IMC which would have been a safer choice for them instead of attempting to rise up on top

So true, Dream! I feel Air Traffic Control should have known this...as he flew into each town, he was speaking with that appropriate Tower personnel, so as the fog got thicker in those areas, whey wouldn't they talk to him about the fog, and perhaps tell him he's better off turning around, if he didn't make that good judgement call on his own?

The area where they took off from didn't have any fog. And the pilot was trying to get help on how to avoid the incoming fog.

Aiden Johnson magnesium burns at 4000 degrees Fahrenheit. When water comes in contact of magnesium it burns at 4000. Helicopter crashes, it’s burning hotter than 4000 degrees, water hits magnesium mixed with oxygen will cause a hotter and bigger burn ... no camera will survive that

Art-maGination I think the pilot saw the mountain at the last minute and tried to quickly climb to avoid, but it was too late. That would explain sudden loss of communication at the same time the chopper increased speed and was pulling up to try in clear the mountain. So sorry for all involved prayers.

I will never forget this man for everything he taught me and I didn’t even know him and he had such a big impact on my life. I miss him so much, and if I could have one wish it would be to have a conversation with him just once. His impact was beyond basketball.

It is my best speculation that the pilot got what is known as spatial disorientation. Sadly, it seems Kobe and the others fell on the same fate of other celebrities that we lost in other aviation crashes in the past such as John F. Kennedy Jr., Rock and Roll pioneer Buddy Holly and country music legend Jim Reeves.

Do you think it was a hit because he had bailed out of some business deals ? he was doing his own thing and he may have ruffled some feathers. Who knows ? the higher you get, the more you may become the target of jealous people, who resent your success. According to the NTSB, the pilot had the blame for flying in marginal weather and suffering the consequences of not being in IFR. Whatever it may have been that turned an experienced pilot into one that made such a mistake, will never be known. The brain works in mysterious ways.

NTSB has a bad reputation of treating crashes like illogical accidents I'll agree though but I dont think jealousy can play any role here except for LeBron James.

Did you not watch the video, this video and countless others have stated that the pilot has the final say. Helicopters are given more slack then airplanes. An airplane would not be a able to fly if conditions were bad. Helicopters can fly in bad weather. Ultimately it was the pilots decision to fly that morning. There’s your Big answer!!!!!

Boštjan Bavcon Oh thanks for the expert analysis. Didn’t know you worked for the NTSB and have gathered all the facts of said incident. How about let the experts do there due diligence and keep your peanut gallery statements to yourself. It was so easily avoidable....🙄 Do you also fly helicopters? Yeah didn’t think so. This pilot was IFR rated (he could fly with no visual confirmation of terrain out the front of the helicopter). At this juncture nobody who is an expert has made a preliminary finding on what caused this accident. That will happen in about 7 days. Followed by one year for the final NTSB report.

You can’t avoid all tragedy unfortunately. It’s part of life. When the NTSB report comes out and outlines the issues contributing, they will request the FAA make changes. Ultimately the loss of these innocent souls will save countless others due to policy change. Really the only silver lining.

Chances are the NTSB will blame the pilot too....they call it "pilot error". If he is the PIC, then he is to blame. It was his aeronautical decision making skills that led to the crash and that has already come into question. It is also his duty as a pilot to evaluate himself , the aircraft, and the weather among other things.

Yes, a two hour drive to their destination. I think maybe the pilot should have advised all on board that they have to take alternatives means of transportation. This is beyond tragic and sad. 😥😥😥😥😥😥

Patricia Patton Kobe mentioned in previous interviews he took the helicopter to avoid traffic and how driving for a long period of time causes his body to ache, not sure how true that is but I don’t think sitting in a car for 2+ hours was an option for him. Definitely a tragedy and super heartbreaking!

It's still hard to believe he's gone, and more tragic he passed away before he could go on stage for his Hall of Fame induction, and Statue dedication outside of Staples Center, but his surviving kids losing their Dad so young, and Gigi, whose life was just barely starting, before she could start high school, just too devastating. The rest of the people as well, they didn't deserve that either, all lives mattered

EFP91 Just inform: we are not flying today due to the weather conditions, like everybody else do. If client complains, just say: we are not taking risks at this time. If client insists, tell them to get their (PPL). It is better for everyone.

It's like leaving your driveway with your car when it's sunny out and by the time you get to your destination it is pouring out and visibility is nothing. Should I have just not gone out that day LOL

Yes weather changes all the time but once he got into that area were the fog was thick it’s his job to inform the passengers that the conditions is not safe to fly them airports cancel flights all the time for this very reason it’s all about judgement a poor decision to fly them.

Helicopter took off at 9:06 a.m. and crashed at 9:47 a.m. OR 41 minutes. In Kobe's last game he scored 60 points and the rest of the team scored 41. And Kobe's 81-point game the rest of the team scored 41. Not an accident.

That's not how it works. Where they took off from, the weather was perfect. Upon entering the fog, they were able to ask for permission to fly by the helicopters equipment, but never got that far. The pilot was highly trained. No one is sure what happened yet...don't say they shouldn't have been able to fly. It's tragic, and as an LA native, I'm going to grieve the loss of all 9, but people need to stop with the assumptions and allow the investigator to be completed, which may take many months.

Those helicopters specifically are made and designed to use equipment that can allow it to fly in nearly zero visibility conditions

Cam Ryder I saw a drone looking thing that was following behind the helicopter and, when the plane went down so did the drone 🤨
