Just flew the United 737 Max 8 in first class EWR-LAS. The experience was AMAZING! Glad United is finally investing in the customer experience on board. Hope American and Alaska follow.

I flew from Newark to Vegas few days ago on the max 8. Was able to upgrade to economy plus for free, I'm guessing folks are still reluctant to fly the max 8... they were plenty of seats available days before the flights. The max 8 have a quiet engine. The take off and landing was smooooth!

United is the best airline in the world!!! If you fly other carrier poor of you !!! Go stronger United!!!

I agree with your assessment of UA's new interior for the Max 8. It's a really nice upgrade to their current narrowbody, non-PS offerings. Although it's a small request, I do wish however, that UA crews would follow in the footsteps of their jetBlue and Delta counterparts, by also stating where they are based, during their after landing announcements. I guess I am just always curious about that. Anyway, thank you for yet another excellent trip report!

Really nice interior. I love the fact you allow us to hear the engine start and spool up for takeoff. The lighting is especially nice and the individual IFE screens is great. You had the whole row to yourself, very cool. I was able to get an entire row to myself in economy on a flight from SFO to HNL on the old World Airways DC-10. Well fact of the matter is I was one of only 8, yes 8 passengers on the flight. Yes on long domestic flights they need to offer food service, no more using COVID as an excuse. Great flight and review. Thanks

I just returned from a domestic flight on AA. It was nothing beyond ordinary. Given that Delta and United are going with seat back IFE to enhance their customers’ flight experience, the question for AA is what makes your customer flight experience better than United or Delta for domestic travel?

Yes the CEO of AA was wrong on IFE issue and has been for years even in his USAirways days. It's one of things that diferniaties the " full service" carrier vs Spirit etc. DL was the first to figure it out it helps them get a revenue premium. I have largely moved my business from AA to UA since they are actually investing in the product.

United is trying to be more customer friendly. The fleet needs an upgrade. I fly first and on most 737s, the IFE, when available is old, and most of the time, the headphone jacks and charger don't operate. Looking forward to the new cabins.

Wow. United is definitely stepping up their game, no cap. Especially with brining back the seatback IFE, unlike American Airlines. Once they get a majority of their short/medium haul fleet equipped with this new cabin, they could even compete with Delta! I'd love to try their 737 max 8 some time.

Interesting, it looks like United backtracked on the purple Economy Plus seats that are in the first few MAX 8 aircraft.

With this kind of trajectory, you might as well rebrand the airline to Continental.

United’s Max 8 and new interior is amazing! And that’s pretty rare to land to the east at SAN like that. Why was that? Was the wind too strong out of the east, or was the fog too low? Seemed pretty surprising

I flew United on their Premium Economy 787 seats, their Economy 777 seats, and their first class E170 seats. I will say, United blew me out of the water each time. I used to dread flying United, and now I feel the need to fly them more often. While their 777 economy seats are absolutely tight and awful, there was so much to watch on those flights and the overall experience was pleasent, in some ways, I feel they even beat Delta. AA do has to learn. I flew them on economy to Orlando and they were just so awful. Awful IFE (on the only flight of 4 where I had it), awful customer service, yeah AA needs to learn. I'm flying United and Delta more now.

UA's MAX cabin looks fabulous! My very first flight on a MAX is coming up next month, but not on UA. I live near Seattle, WA, and the best I could do for now is get a ride on one of Alaska Airlines' MAX 9's...no seatback screens...sigh. I'm also going to San Diego, although from Seattle it's only about a 2 hour, 45 minute flight (gate to gate I assume, not actual air time). After arriving in San Diego, I hope I can get a look at the flight deck. (I did that last time I flew Alaska, and they allowed it; that was on an A320, my first time ever on an Airbus.) So hopefully, I'll be lucky again, as I really, really want to see that MAX cockpit in real life, not just in photos, as I have so far....👨‍✈️👩‍✈️🙂

Having only 2 AC outlets for every 3 seats is a non-issue on any aircraft equipped with IFE for two main reasons; 1. You don't need to charge a personal device when screening onboard entertainment, and 2. USB port is sufficient to charge a phone on a 5-6 hour flight. On top of that, most people do not use large electronics on board anyway.

Just made a round trip between Newark and Charlotte returning last Sunday (12/18/22) on an exact 737 Max 8 sitting two seats in front of you in 8F. Agree with everything you said especially about the Seat-back IFE and immense entertainment selections. Didn’t get a chance to try out their wifi since it was only a two hour trip. Looked like you had problems. Also, you failed to mention their new oversized overhead bins where you can store your carryons sideways thus providing for more space…but, the only negative I had was I could not fit my carry on backpack under the seat as I have done on all planes I have flown on since buying it back in 2016. There seems to be a seat support that lessens the width plus less height under the seat to completely slide my backpack under. The flight attendant had to stow my backpack in the overhead bin both coming and going, thus depriving me of access to books, snacks, travel documents and my IPad during flight. (I did take it out on return flight knowing what was likely to happen). I will therefore need to purchase a narrower smaller backpack for future flights on United. One other issue that didn’t affect me. Do not, I repeat do not choose any seats past row 25. All the overhead bins were full past that point and the flight was delayed a bit because they had to check carryons. They also asked for volunteers to check their carryons on return trip because of same. They said they needed 15 people to volunteer to check their carryon. I assume it was cost free. Most people now a day don’t check bags unless long flight with lengthy stay over. Need to reduce cost to encourage more people to check bags. Otherwise, everything was great and I will be looking to fly United’s 737 Max 8’s (Economy + seating) again provide $$ is reasonable.

I just flew a new max 8 to Ewr it was soooo nice! Also flew a delta 321 and that was also nice but if I had to choose it would be with the New max I was scared to fly it initially but then flying back home on a 737 900 the difference is huge!

The only problem with United's new cabin is that given that it seems that the economy plus headrests are back to the old colors, (which is aesthetically better and whoever decided to use the old colors, great on you), the purple headrests on the early MAX 8s will be a spot of inconsistency. Hopefully United can replace the purple headrests on those old MAXes with those blue headrests and repurpose the purple leathers into fanny packs or something.

Was just on a UA MAX9. No IFE in economy. A 2 hr mechanical delay out of IAD too.

The lighting seems incredibly vivid blue. Is it really that bright blue or is it a trick of the camera ?

Great video but for the person sitting in front of you and all passengers on IFE screen equipped aircraft, stop tapping and scrolling with your finger tips so hard. Light taps work just as well! ANYWAYS look at United thats the kind of interior deserving of the Max I'm impressed its Uniteds!

No doubt you probably were close to exhaustion after arrival--leaving EWR in the early evening,arriving at SAN around 9pm PT, your body clock would say its bedtime,what with EWR being around midnight! Surprised UA doesn't at least offer buy-on-board meals since your flight did leave around dinner time,wonder what FC was offered? Knowing that San Diego was your former hometown, did you overnight with friends or family?

I highly prefer the Delta experience... They have ALWAYS had seat-back screens and the overall experience feels nicer than United. United (and American) feel too close to Southwest for my liking. When given the choice... I'm a Delta guy.

Flew the United Max 8 in 2018 right before the groundings from IAH-SAN. I also recently flew Southwest Max 8 from HNL-OGG

Very impressive 👏 but I think there is always room for improvement, in my opinion United should make the "handsfree" restrooms like in the dreamliners also, it could be great if they will provide a free low speed wifi and self snack and beverage service like in Jetblue. So far I see big improvement.
