Hi Abigail, How are you doing? I met you at Derby Uni the next day I arrive in the UK... I was in the process of getting my school ID... you assisted me to find the international office. Well, I'm sorry to say this..when you say apartment, I think that amount you mentioned £750 is worth it for a one-bedroom apartment otherwise called one bedroom flat. Except you mean a one-bedroom seat, (not even a suit) where you share the house and facilities with other occupants/tenants. But a £750 apartment is a good bargain, especially if one can get such with bills inclusive excluding council tax is still a good bargain.

Yes, you’re very correct. One of the important factors that determine the price is the location or city. That’s why we said to sample the average price of the apartment or house in that location. We’re paying £495 per month for our one bedroom flat in Derby (not bills inclusive. Thank you for sharing this.

@Dfabfamily That's a fantastic price for the flat. The bills shouldn't be a problem, so long you're not on one of that prepaid meters and your heating and cooker aren't electricity powered. Yes, the rents largely depend on the location. But you've got a good thing going, so long there is the availability of various jobs out there, and the agencies are a good place to start in getting permanent jobs because some companies might require a permanent staff and if they like the way one does his or her job, they might offer you the position.

Just put “United Kingdom” on your CV. You don’t have to use an exact address. Please bear in mind that a lot of companies wont give you the job if you don’t have a right to work in the Uk except they will sponsor you. So I’ll advise you target jobs that come with visa sponsorship.

I think you guys are wrong on the prices. Some cities are more expensive. There is no apartment for 500 pounds in Manchester right now. I think Derby is a small town. I am paying 1000 in Manchester and that is now one of the cheapest closest to city. But in Manchester I am earning more money so it’s ok

It’s possible you didn’t understand what we said or meant. We said to sample the average price of a particular apartment in a certain location before renting. That’s because we know it’s dependent on the kind of accommodation and location. If a one bedroom apartment in London costs 1,200 per month and that’s the average price for a one bedroom in London, then it’s fine. We got our 1 bedroom apartment for 495 per month. Someone pays 700 for the same kind of apartment in Derby. A couple just got a 3 bedroom house for 800 per month, another couple got a 2 bedroom flat for 900 (both unfurnished). Derby isn’t a small town!

I'm surprised to hear about an agency owing you. Since you're legally in the system and you got your past payslips and copies of your contract documents you can sue them, to start with, you can go to the citizens' advice bureau near you to request to speak with an official. I also want to believe that isn't a government-registered employment agency, it could be one of those that do things through the back door and possibly pay cash in hand and even if they do a bank transfer payment they run a dodgy book balance. Sorry to hear your Mrs is still being owed her wages.
