The Jackery Explorer 1000 Solar Generator does a lot of things really well, and is a great fit for those looking for simple power in their van (vanlife) rig (overlanding), or a general preparedness tool. In this video I talk about what things the Jackery Explorer 1000 does right, and the couple of things that I think would have made it a total grand slam. It's a great all around device that packs enough punch for most things, without getting too huge and too expensive. Not necessarily the best choice for full-time off-grid living, but for a little bit of overlanding, or getting into that vanlife journey, this is a great, simple solar generator.

could you review one of the Midland PPG's? if you can get one that is lol I've wondered if they are worth it compared to GoalZero or Jackery; something like that. I think they are more expensive than any of those compared to what they do, but the PPG's are waterproof/dustproof, so good for camping in a tent

We have used the kzfaq.infoUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

I'm one of your budget minded viewers and made one of those solar generators for less than $200. That Jackery explorer sells for $999. I used a large Camco battery box ($13), cut a hole for an all in one panel with dual USB port, cigarette socket , and voltmeter ($14 ) , 12 volt deep cycle AGM battery ($100), PMW charge controller ($10), 400 watt modified sine wave inverter ($39). You can get a windy nation 100 watt glass rigid panel that weighs only 16 lbs for $75 with free shipping. There is almost nothing that pricey jackery can do that my box won't. Lithium batteries of course are much lighter than lead acid batteries granted. It runs my 12 volt compressor refrigerator and charges anything via the USB ports. The AC inverter is nice for small appliances that need 110 volts. Most of these parts are from eBay, battery and case from Walmart. The box is not much bigger than your jackery but weighs a lot more (45 lbs vs 22 lbs). Sorry I had to weigh in when I see such an expensive item that was pretty easy to make yourself.

@@jimjones5530 Sorry but there are many videos on making a DIY power box. Mine is not original and many people make these. I don't know how technical you are but it just simple basic electronics using 12 volts. The deep cycle battery and plastic box comes from Walmart. All the other parts I listed in the comments can be searched on eBay. Its really nice to have the solar panel on the vehicle to keep the battery charged all the time. We've been Rving more since the pandemic since we can't fly anymore.

Great review. I've been testing my Jackery 1000 with a 3 quart instant pot mini pressure cooker 700 watt, + a 12v dual compartment fridge/freezer. I can cook a full pot of beans, full pot of rice, and 8 chicken thighs back to back (3 pots) and still enough charge to run the fridge for a day before needing juice. Using the efficiency of the pressure cooker correctly is a game changer, just let it release naturally to use all the heat. I didn't like the Solar Saga panels because they are not waterproof and I don't have time to babysit them. I replaced with the EcoFlow 110 and LOVE them. They also fit perfectly on my bakflip tonneau cover without even noticing them.

Good review. When you compare this to the Suaoki 1,000 the features are very similar, but the Suaoki uses LiFePO batteries which will last something like 2,000 to 5,000 charges versus about 500 for the Li-Ion ones used in this Jackery 1000. I also prefer the fold-down handle of the Suaoki unit so that it fits into a nice tidy sqare.

One HUGE issue with lithium units is does it have a REGULATED 12v output. The Jackery does and that means it will keep running your 12v fridge and other devices, even as it drops down in power. Some other solar generators do NOT have a regulated port and that means your fridge may go off when the unit drops to 80% or 50%. A friend has a Lion Energy Safari LT 450w and has Alpicool fridge goes off when the Safari got down to 50%. Jackery units have a 12v regulated port - a great reason to buy one of them.

They could help that adjustability of the legs by adding a belt loop that you can adjust the length. You know, the two hole plastic adjuster on most dog collars. Dirt cheap and it'd allow you to adjust the angle to whatever you want.

You talked about using a small electric blanket for winter camping. I'd like to see electric blanket compared to heating water on a propane stove or campfire, filling 1 or 2 hot water bottles, then adding them to sleeping bag. Either option can remove edge from a cold night, adding energy and fun to the next day. - Steve, Utah

Very informative. Also very good point about the advantage of using the USB ports because it doesn't waste energy inverting to AC. There are a lot of gadgets and devices that run on USB plugs (ie fans, diffusers, small electronics).

@10:48 - Good solar panels should be able to handle up to 50% or more of the cells in shade... the Rockpals 100W folding panel does that and still outputs an 18V - albeit less amps. Yes - ideally you want full direct sun ☀️

I have 2 comments. 1. Since USB C can be bi-directional (meaning it can input and output DC power), they should have made the USB C ports that way (like the new Suaoki S370) and 2. You neglected to mention an important feature the Jackery has that many do not, that is a regulated (at 13.3V) 12v barrel connector - aka Cigarette lighter port.

Hey the Anderson connection takes presidents / overrides other charging ports So you plug a second solar to the other and you will see zero change in the input charging. However if you daisy chain the two solars together and go directly into the Jackery via Anderson you should see what you expect, like 140-170aps on a good day

I'm looking into a complete power station and am unsold on any brand right now although the Jackery is what I'm leaning towards. I do Craft fairs, outdoor balloon festivals etc that run for 4-5 days long and I need to be able to have my own power source as RELIABLE power provided by the event is a hassle since it's reserved for food trucks etc to run their big draw items. I've had to run an extension cord and obscene distance to gain power only to find the booth next to me going under the tent to plug into my power strip. Crafters and Vendors are an untapped resource for these power stations and something we could benefit from greatly as we have to recharge our card reader devices to take payment we also have to provide our own lighting as balloon festivals start way before the sun rises and events like rodeos, state fairs etc usually run late into the evening since bands and such are playing so we NEED reliable power to be able to run our businesses. We usually have equipment running as we are demonstrating our craft during the event. Setting up a solar panel isn't always an option during the event so we need it to last throughout the day so we can recharge in our hotel overnight to start again fresh the next day. #TheRibbonChicks on instagram or facebook KZfaq channel coming this year as we will be purchasing our cargo trailer to travel further distances in July 2020

Thanks for the review. Jackery should have some ambient lighting around the outlets or at least make them high vis colors instead of black. Then handles should stow away and the flashlight is gimicky but could be useful if you don't have anything else. I'd rather have a led wall to light up a small work area. It still is a nice battery pack.

OK, so I went to buy one. Amazon has the Explorer 1000. With the LLODefense I got the $200 off. Sweet. However, Amazon has no 100 panels available and doesn't know when it will have them. Jackery.Com doesn't actually sell their own products and neither AutoZone, nor Home Depot.com has any either. So, if you are looking for the panels and especially the $300 off for the package deal, you are out of luck.

Hey Mike, just so you know, the Solar Saga 100 that you use in your video must be a different model because I just got mine today and it's a different setup. It doesn't come with an Anderson plug, and the USB A/C ports are not located on the carrying handle. The model I received uses a long 8mm plug for charging that is permanently attached to the port located in the zippered pocket that also has the USB A/C ports. Luckily, when I got my Explorer 1000, it came with a Y cable (Anderson to double 8mm) so still has the ability to connect to two panels at once.

I'd like to see a comparison with what is generally considered the best solar generator on the market currently, namely the Ecoflow Delta. With this discount code it could potentially be worth the money but at full price it's better to just get a Delta for a little bit more. It charges much faster (1-2 hours compared to the Jackery which charges from 0-100% in 5-6 hours), has higher battery capacity (300Wh more) and almost double the inverter capability (1800W).

If you are really considering this, you should watch DIY Solar with Will Prowse review on YT of this. He measures input, output and efficiency . On his review he proves that you can’t run both solar inputs at once and that it actually prefers the non Anderson side. His conclusion is that its too expensive for what you get
@LastLineOfDefense
@LastLineOfDefense 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah he does good testing - though he's not the same type of user I am, and thus his review is not a 'how is this thing, when you're actually using it' type of review. I have most of the battery packs he's tested (including the two that he compared to the jackery in that video) - and both of the other ones are not as good (in real use, just due to features, layout, etc). In this video I show that it does accept charge from both ports simultaneously - though I'm not sure if my unit is different than theirs (we all have pre-production units), or maybe if it takes both ports when they're both below 100w or something. I think it's going to be $1,000, and with $200 off coupon, that's $800 - it is considerably cheaper than anything else that compares to it, and for reasons stated in the video, is actually better in real world use. Having said that - if you care less about the layout, ease of use, price, etc - then I do agree that both the Bluetti and the EcoFlow (again I have both, and you can see both in use in past Weekenderlander videos) are better when it comes to pure stats.

Bro thank you for your feedback always! And don’t worry if people like your long videos or short videos just make them to the content that you feel is appropriate if they don’t want to watch the whole long video they can go fly a kite or go camping or something. Sometimes videos need to be a bit longer. Also yes please make a video on running a fridge with that thing! That would be great information to go into more depth because that would be the priority use if some disaster would happen and we needed to keep food fresh to survive while the grid is down. Hope you continue to do well thank you for keeping your channel running.

I don't think I'd get something like this just because the handle sticks up on it, and can't fold flat. A flat top would be easier to pack. They could do a paracord handle that ties into a d-ring that bolts to the plastic case or something if they don't want to make a folding handle.
