In this episode at the modern image 00 gauge layout New Junction, We take a break from the work going on on the main station and get down & dirty putting in some track grime on the Heritage Railway Engine sheds.
Using another item from the Hatton's Constructor range (Non sponsored) we apply it to maximum effect to create Oil and ash deposits.

Very nice, got one of these sitting on the shelf ready for my depot & station area. You'll have an easier job applying the glue if you pre-wet the area first. Looking at how fine it is some runs are bound to happen but it should help. The results speak for themselves, the engine shed area looks much more realistic now. Cheers

My only suggesting would be to install a pit out the front of the shed between the rails. Inside would be more realistic but a model railway is about things being on display and having to peek through the doors of the model shed to see a pit wouldn't be very obvious. I say this as fireboxes would be dumped in pits and not just out on to the track. I mean, I could understand that there might be heritage lines these days that don't have a pit and have to make do with what they have but still, you're not dropping a firebox onto the track with oil and wooden sleepers. A pit out front covered and partially filled with the same Engine Shed Grime kit would be much more prototypical.

Interesting. I've been looking into the best way to replicate the ground cover and the overall look of the average steam shed for my current MPD layout build. Hadn't really considered using these kits but now I've seen it I think it's a must have.

Hi Richard, that is absolutely great ,the start of the video showing the close up of the Flying Scotsman 'on shed' looks very realistic. I hope you don't mind me suggesting why don't you dry brush some soot above the shed doors and drop a few lumps of Gauge master shiny coal or Hatton's equivalent in the yard and you have got a masterpiece.

@@NewJunction thank you for for the response for the comments. Displaying a heritage center is hard but after all with looking at my photos off the GCR Loughborough and then such as the Midland Railway Center which as the moment is very much diesel locomotives. The new kit is spot on.

looks good but the fresh ash from the logos would be a much darker grey and mainly left in just small heaps in the middle of the track but this would only be from engines with rocking grates and hopper Ashpans most engine would have to be scraped out over a ash pit how ever all locos could have there smoke boxes done outside but smokebox ash is black anyway
